They call my office, sometimes multiple times per day, and just hang up when I answer. Very irritating. I think answering the phone just confirms that they have found a live number, so it's probably best not to answer when you see their caller ID.

I'm the person who last posted.  I spoke with a ConEd customer service rep just now.  She said that it was probably a call from a legitimate electricity provider, but they're not supposed to say they're with ConEd.  She said I could try to check the number on ConEd's site PowerYourWay.com, but that site is down, which I let her know.

In the meantime, I've gotten about a dozen calls since yesterday on my office phone, my work cell phone, and my personal cell phone.

Between saying they're with ConEd when they're not, the shady phone number, and the annoying number of calls, I plan to answer next time and tell them to stop calling me.

I got a call from this number at work this morning and it showed up on caller ID as "NYC Housing."  But then I got a similar pitch from someone with a very thick accent I had trouble understanding, but I think she said she worked for ConEdison and was talking about a program called "Power Your Way" that could help me save on my electric bills.  She said she needed to know the amount of my last power bill tot ell me what my savings would be.  I figured telling her that wouldn't hurt anything, but of course I'm not going to give out any bank account info, my Social Security number, or anything like that.  I don't keep my bills at work so I asked them to call me back this evening on my cell. But after Googling the number, this seems kind of shady.  Although there is info on ConEd's website about the Power Your Way program, so at least it seems legit.

I think I'm going to call ConEd directly and see if this number is affiliated with one of their known providers.

They are persistent little devils.  They just won't stop calling.

We get calls from this number multiple times daily. We have caller ID so I just answer and hang up without saying anything. We did, at one point, answer with a "This is our business, how can we help?" but no answer. Then we tried "Hello?" as that sometimes triggers those automatic calls to have someone pick up. But nothing.

So. Just answering and hanging up until they eventually stop. Woo.

as 718-999-9999. When it rings and we don't pick it up, it proceeds to leave an extremely LOUD
beeping (that hurts your ears) until you push STOP on the answering machine. These calls have
been occurring regularly and daily for about the last couple of weeks.
Is there anyone who knows the source of this number and how to get it to stop?

We have a tendency to get a lot of calls trying to sell us alternate electric supplier. This may be
tied into that, not sure.

I reported that number i thought it was important & dialed it back you can't its not in the states I guess my provider says I cannot make calls to that number -- how the hell do they get a NY area code if they are in Nigeria also be aware of credit card scams I am being charged for online purchases I did not make its from a UK company another scam

no sound but when you look up the number via a search engine (put double quotes around it

...WOW lots of stuff all different and some from CUNY a college in NY.

I called the long distance operator and she cannot tell me if the number is disconected, or if it's just a recording that they are playing.

I think CUNY college students have something to do with it since they own so many of the number close to that one.
