Robert called one of my smaller tax clients about liens on a business.  I gave him my company fax and demanded support for his company's allegations and he hung up.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

This guy said his name was Matt and he was calling to help my company out about 'past due"  matter.. I asked what matters or what bill was past due and he needed, he said, first my name and to verify my social. I hung up and he called back 7 more times.

He also left 3 voicemails all lasting only about 5 seconds each of just silence... Ignore or block!

I'm going through the same thing, but I call Reynaldo Poras from the number 720-457-2761 and just wants to talk with the owner, not the people in charge of the taxes.

Was called by Vincent Abeyta at this same phone number and was told that it was critical that he speak with the owner.  I of course hung up on him and he continued to call back.  I finally took down his contact information and searched the number which led me to this page.  I called back Mr. Abeyta and it went to his voicemail, I tried to hit 0 to get transferred to a receptionist .... didn't happen, wouldn't allow me anything other than leaving a message on his voicemail.  I did and it felt good to tell him what I thought of him ... I waiting for him to call back, which I'm sure he will!!!

We have had at least 20 calls to our office by this jerk. He has been told to stop the harassing phone calls on numerous occasions and yet he still persists.  Every time it is the same thing from him, he needs to speak to the owner TODAY!  I have directed him to the tax lawyer as instructed but he still insists on speaking to the owner.  Just to tell all of you who may have to listen to this Vincent, he claims it is such an important matter and yet does not even know the owner's name!  He has very rudely told ME what to do with the messages and then hung up on me.  When I asked to speak to his supervisor to stop the phone calls he again hung up on me.  Absolute jerk.  Well guess what, the owner is the Philsbury Dough Boy and is stuck on a box somewhere so you are never speaking to him nor am I giving him your messages!

Called my office this morning, claimed he worked for a group of IRS enrolled agents and wanted to speak to the person that handled our federal taxes.  When I tried to direct him to our tax attorney, he became rude and said he didn't want to speak to them, but only to the person who hired the attorney.  He would not give me any other information besides his name and phone number.  Very rude.  Caller ID says it was Phoenix Financial Group.

He called my store this morning and lied about having spoken with the owner.  When I told him to stop calling me and tying up my line he got mad and kept calling repeatedly for a few minutes!  How can anyone expect to earn your business when they make you want to kill them?  He's a sad individual for sure.

Just received a call from this jerk.  Says he's with the state and needs to collect on tax liens.  And demanded to know who I was. I told him he sounds like a telemarketer and I don't want him calling my cell phone.
He said he tried 4 times at my office and will not quit calling me !
I hung up.
He then called right back.  I stated to never call this number again ! He was furious and started screaming at me !
Then he called every 10 seconds , 9 times.
Definately has a disorder.

Called and was a completed jerk. Says he handles tax leins. I told him I did not need his help and hung up. Called right back so I told him I still did not need his help. He informed me he did not help people. When asked what he wanted he again talked about leins. So I told him again I did not need his help and hung up. He called right back and I told him the same again. He called back again and asked if I wanted to talk of if he should call back at a later time. I told him once again I did not need his help and not to call back. Very unprofessional. I tried to call back to find out who it was, but the number is no longer in service acoring to the recording.
