Received call to tell me I could lower my interest rate.  No mention was made of my name or credit card involved.  A woman's voice said to press #1 to speak with a representative for my last chance to lower my interest or press #2 to remove my number.  I pressed #2 and a man's voice said that my number had been removed.

Tried to call back the number to see if it was on the up and up only to receive a message that the phone was disconnected or out of service.

I phoned my telephone company AT&T to inform them of this and they said there wasn't anything they could do to help.

A recording informing me that I can lower my interest rate came on once I said hello.  This is one of many calls I have received offering lower rates.  The message said press #1 to speak with a representative or #2 to remove your name.  Since option #2 has obviously not worked I choose #1.  A guy named Dale come on the line ready with his shpeal ?are you calling to lower your rates??  Told him I just want my Tel # removed and was abruptly hung up on.

Tried to call back and go a message that the access code was dialed in error.

So, to whom do we complain about a ?company? whose name and phone number we do not have?

For some reason, car warranty telemarketing scams are very hot right now. The calls are almost always randomly dialed, so the telemarketer has no idea whether you have a new car under warranty or an old car or if you even have a car.  The message they call with makes it sound like your car warranty is about to expire; this is just a scare tactic aimed at tricking into "buying" a new car warranty and giving them your credit card number (which is what they are really after.)

I'm familiar with the car warranty scam because earlier this summer I was repeatedly slammed with prerecorded telemarketing calls trying to sell car warranties. The message on the recording made it sound extremely urgent and told me this was my "last notice" and that my car warranty is about to expire.

Such calls are totally illegal. The federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) specifically forbids telemarketers from making prerecorded calls to anyone who has not given permission to receive such calls.  You can take your revenge by reporting each call online to the Federal Communications Commission (which enforces the TCPA.) It just takes a few minutes to fill out the form and here's the link to do that: https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/consumer.do  The more information you can give in your complaint, the better. So try to note the date and time of each call and all the information contained on the Caller ID if you have that service.  (After I filed several reports with the FCC regarding the non-stop illegal telemarketing calls I received, the calls stopped altogether a couple weeks later.)

And just for good measure, you may want to also file a complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission here: https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

Finally, most consumers don't realize that the TCPA also provides an avenue for them to pursue monetary damages against the offending telemarketer to the tune of $500 per call. Of course, that involves going to court but it's not as difficult as it sounds. I believe that each time the telemarketer makes the call, they could be subject to paying $500 in damages. (In other words, if they call you 5 times, they could be liable for $2,500 in damages paid to you.) Check out this link to the website of a lawyer who was startled awake in the early morning hours by an unauthorized prerecorded telemarketing call: http://www.panix.com/~eck/telemarket.html  He tells the detailed story of how he put the provisions of the TCPA to work against a lawbreaking telemarketer.

You can file suit yourself (usually in small claims court) or retain a consumer law attorney who will take care of it on your behalf. Many times, by the way, the telemarketer settles out of court.

Same as Gladys' accounting of the call...I had asked already to have my name taken off the list, so now the same company is calling from a different phone number- this 722 one.  When the man picked up the phone I informed him by law he must stop calling- I got to the word 'law' and he hung up me.  Don't waste time trying to call the number back...you get a homemade recording that is trying to mimick the operator recording.  These people are bottom feeders.

Event Reminder
These people show up on your caller id as "Sebastian, Fl". I've received other calls that show up as "Boca Roton, Fl" and they use the same voice call telling you that this is regarding your credit card. Your credit card is ok but is eligibable for a reduction in rate and to press 1 for more info. I pressed 1 in order to find out more about the company calling and to see if were calling about my one and only credit card and to also get off their phone list. When an operator gets on the line and you ask them what credit card they are calling about, they hang up on you. When you try to call the phone number back that showed up on your caller id, the recording says the phone number is no longer available.
