They have called me 6 times this week from all kids of different numbers.  I've gotten 757-271-1043, 864-644-1034, 864-649-9008, and 817-878-3098, at least that I have been able to keep track of.  They may have called from others but I send them straight to voicemail and they NEVER leave a message.

Calling constantlyis their way of wearing you down until they get you to pick up and make a mistake... CRA is ruthless in their attempts because any $$$ they get out of you is a PROFIT. They bought ZOMBIE DEBTS aka debts that have been settled or are out of the statute of limitations.  They prey on people who are uninformed and make tons of money from people who fall for their lies.  They paid anywhere from .01 to $8.00 for someone's unpaid balance... so as stated before ANYTHING they get you to acknowledge and/or commit to pay ... is money in the bank for them.  DO NOT fall for the SCAM!!! They have formal complaints and investigations by law enforcements in other states. BEWARE!!!  (Read above to file your own complaint if you so choose.)

They are a debt collection agency that has bought old debts that have already been settled or the time has expired on.  They can be very rude.  They will threaten you and make it sound like they are coming to get you.  The best thing I have found to do is not answer the phone.  However this last time they called they were looking for my husband.  When they couldn't say his name right, I told them that no one by that name lived here.  They then asked if I had a relative or old friend with that name.  I said no and he said he would remove my number.  DO NOT give them any information.  Ask for written details and tell them not to call you.  They have a history of calling family members and friends.  It is a scam so beware.

Debt Collector
I received a call on my cell phone from "Lisa" stating she is from CR Associates a "Legal Processing Company", and she needed to speak to my husband Chris regarding "SERIOUS" legal issues.  I told her I was his wife, she asked to speak to him and if he gives permission, then she can speak with me.  I gave the phone to my husband, and Lisa put him on hold.  The phone disconnected.  NOTE: Do not call them back if this happens.  I had never experienced a call like this, and was worried someone had a lawsuite against my husband because she said "Legal Processing Company".  I called back and got a gentleman (don't remember his name).  The guy asked my husband if he is going to "settle his debt".  My husband questioned him about the debt, and stated "I'm not going to take your word over the phone, I need some sort of documentation regarding this debt."  The guy became instantly rude and hung up on my husband.  Again NOTE: Do not call them back.  I being the persistent and ignorant person that I am, called back and asked to speak to the original person who called, Lisa.  While I was on "hold" my husband was telling me this is a credit company calling and if they have proof of a dept they should send something in writing when all of a sudden a woman started yelling at me on the phone telling me "whoever that man is in the background doesn't know what he is talking about, this is a serious issue blah, blah, blah".  I asked her to understand where we are coming from when there hasn't been any notification about a debt, and there are lots of SCAMS out there to get money out of people.  Red Flag for her: I said the word SCAM.  That is what this company/these people are- A SCAM.  She attempted to prove she wasn't a SCAM by stating they sent numerous notifications to my husbands old address (he hasn't lived there for at least 3 years), stating his "former employer" (which is still his current employer).  She knew who our recent home loan is through, and the company our car loan is through.  I stupidly took her serious, and she begins to tell me the specifics of the "dept".  I told her my husbands wages were garnished for this "debt" 5 years ago, and she hung up.  Now I'm mad and I call back again and speak to a "Michelle".  I asked Michelle to please help me understand what is going on regarding this supposed "debt", she stated a note that either the "guy" or "Lisa" put into their computer stating "Attempted to resolve debt and person refused".  I said that's not the situation, we just want written information regarding this.  I divulged that we do not live at the address they supposedly sent the "notifications" to, she said "that doesn't matter, notifications didn't need to be sent, they are calling now and that is it."  I said okay, began to speak and she hung up.  I called from my work phone knowing the number is blocked, and when I called a message stated "This number is not in Service."  This explains how they knew exactly who I was every time I called as I NEVER ONCE had to state who I was when calling!  My husband "googled" the number that called, and we got this website with all the responses.  EVERYTHING that has been posted regarding this company is TRUE!  Luckily, we didn't give them our new address, or any other information.  My husband unfortunately did confirm his last four digits of his social security number- DO NOT CONFIRM ANYTHING.  We found "CR Associates" stands for "Capitol Recovery Associates", and my husbands "debt" they were trying to collect on was resolved 5 years ago by garnishing my husbands wages!  DO NOT FALL FOR THIS.  I will be following through with the FTC and Attorney Generals Office of both my state, and supposedly Virginia (where the number is tracked to) under the suggestion of others.  We may be only one couple, but if numerous people come together, maybe this harrassment will be put to a stop.  HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT!

A person named Mr. Gibson who identified himself with CRA called looking for someone named Solis.  They have been doing this for several months and all communications letting them know no one by that name lives here has been ignored.  This is the first time that I have been able to call back - I did so and told them again that no Solis' live here, this is a private number on the national do not call list.  He hung up on ME, I called the number back, asked for a manager so I could get this resolved, but he stated this is a very busy office dealing with important legal matters, said my number was removed from his database and hung up on me again.  Not satisfied I called back, spoke with Mr. Gibson again since it seemed to be a busy one person office and let him know that past attempts to be removed from their list did not work that I was calling back again to make sure and asked him how it felt to receive unwanted calls.

Even though I was not his subject of interest he was rude, presumptuous, tried and was very successful at times at allowing me to get a word in to express my anger at their methods.  This occurred a 7:41pm cst, on speaker, with my concerned grade schooler listening.

1-866-857-3916 is one of those irritating numbers that show up on your caller ID that can never seem to be identified.   When you return the call, you get the ominous "Can I help you?" or "Case number please."  They refuse to identify who they are when questioned, will not state they are debt collectors, and by tone imply you have committed some illegal act and are in great trouble or they would not have called you.  It is a violation of FDCPA.  It took quite a bit of research and cunning to discover whom the voices were behind the lawbreaking 866 number were...but it's coming together now and they are without excuse.

Give us your stories on CRA and let's put together some useful information to bring these folks down.  Record their calls where legal and save the tapes for future use.  We'll post 'em here if you have something of interest.

In the meantime, hold them to the law; make them put everything in writing, validate the debt.  Use the cease-communication letter.  Violations of the law should be pointed out to the Virginia Attorney General.

CAUTION: I recommend you NEVER disclose your bank account or credit card information to a debt collector, as you risk them emptying your account, or maxing out your credit card. If you feel they are reporting on your credit bureau files in error or need assistance in dealing with them, email  the details w/your location.  Assistance and referral to a consumer legal specialist may be available

From Federal Trade Commission Website ? FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT
Debt Collection FAQs: A Guide for Consumers
If you?re behind in paying your bills, or a creditor?s records mistakenly make it appear that you are, a debt collector may be contacting you.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation?s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.
Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them.
Here are some questions and answers about your rights under the Act.

What types of debts are covered?
The Act covers personal, family, and household debts, including money you owe on a personal credit card account, an auto loan, a medical bill, and your mortgage. The FDCPA doesn?t cover debts you incurred to run a business.

Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place?
No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they?re told (orally or in writing) that you?re not allowed to get calls there.

How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?
If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter ? even if you don?t think you owe the debt, can?t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don?t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector ? in writing ? to stop contacting you. Here?s how to do that:
Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a ?return receipt? so you?ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt.

Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt?
If an attorney is representing you about the debt, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you don?t have an attorney, a collector may contact other people ? but only to find out your address, your home phone number, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting third parties more than once. Other than to obtain this location information about you, a debt collector generally is not permitted to discuss your debt with anyone other than you, your spouse, or your attorney.

What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt?
Every collector must send you a written ?validation notice? telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don?t think you owe the money.

Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don?t think I owe any money?
If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don?t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe.

What practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
    use threats of violence or harm;
    publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
    use obscene or profane language; or
    repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.

False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
    falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
    falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
    falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
    misrepresent the amount you owe;
    indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren?t; or
    indicate that papers they send to you aren?t legal forms if they are.

Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:
    you will be arrested if you don?t pay your debt;
    they?ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
    legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don?t intend to take the action.

Debt collectors may not:
    give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;
    send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn?t; or
    use a false company name.

Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
    try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt ? or your state law ? allows the charge;
    deposit a post-dated check early;
    take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or
    contact you by postcard.

Can I control which debts my payments apply to?
Yes. If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you select. Equally important, a debt collector may not apply a payment to a debt you don?t think you owe.

Can a debt collector garnish my bank account or my wages?
If you don?t pay a debt, a creditor or its debt collector generally can sue you to collect. If they win, the court will enter a judgment against you. The judgment states the amount of money you owe, and allows the creditor or collector to get a garnishment order against you, directing a third party, like your bank, to turn over funds from your account to pay the debt.
Wage garnishment happens when your employer withholds part of your compensation to pay your debts. Your wages usually can be garnished only as the result of a court order. Don?t ignore a lawsuit summons. If you do, you lose the opportunity to fight a wage garnishment.

Can federal benefits be garnished?
Many federal benefits are exempt from garnishment, including:
    Social Security Benefits
    Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits
    Veterans? Benefits
    Civil Service and Federal Retirement and Disability Benefits
    Service Members? Pay
    Military Annuities and Survivors? Benefits
    Student Assistance
    Railroad Retirement Benefits
    Merchant Seamen Wages
    Longshoremen?s and Harbor Workers? Death and Disability Benefits
    Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Benefits
    Compensation for Injury, Death, or Detention of Employees of U.S. Contractors Outside the U.S.
    Federal Emergency Management Agency Federal Disaster Assistance
But federal benefits may be garnished under certain circumstances, including to pay delinquent taxes, alimony, child support, or student loans.

Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law?
You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can?t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney?s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector?s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.

What should I do if a debt collector sues me?
If a debt collector files a lawsuit against you to collect a debt, respond to the lawsuit, either personally or through your lawyer, by the date specified in the court papers to preserve your rights.

Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?
Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General?s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General?s office can help you determine your rights under your state?s law.

Debt Collector
It's CRA (Capital Recovery Associates, Inc.) ... the call came in as Vonage Holdings.  They call every day with a different ID on the phone from various states.  DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION because they have purchased debts known as ZOMBIE DEBTS aka debts that have been settled or are out of the statute of limitations.  Each state governs the statute of limitations... so research which state related to you. There are some states that "reset the clock" on the statute of limitations just by verbally acknowledging the debt...so again.... DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION of any sort.  They prey on people who are uninformed and make tons of money from people who fall for their lies.  They paid for these ZOMBIE DEBTS for pennies on the dollar and anything they get is a profit. They have formal complaints and investigations by law enforcements in other states. BEWARE!!!

There have been class action lawsuits filed against CRA for harassment and/or violations of  the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). If you feel your rights have been violated through the FDCPA, you should also file a complaint with the FTC, the federal agency that enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  You can contact the FTC online at www.ftc.gov, by phone at 877-FTC-HELP, or by mail at:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a new phone number for a debt collection co. They use several numbers local and out of state. The person that called was Nancy left a number to call back 877-311-7739, and called my previous employer and was extremely rude and again had my last name wrong.  THey have called before I have called them back and was very rude to the employer and tried to get me to verify information they supposedly had. I would not verify anything. I told them if its a valid debt to send me something in writing nothing has been sent. They obviously have an address of some sort yest can't veriy anything, I have filed a formal complaint against this company and they are still trying to contact me for a debt that doesn't belong to me.  The number they called from today was 757-271-1043 nothing came up for a name just a number. Beware this company is a fraud company. Do not give out any of your information. Do not verify anything if its a real debt they will have all the information and this company has none. FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD...
