A lady caller Called and said the last 4 of my social and said they had been contracted to collect a deb then she put me on hold then the man picked up and  said they they had been contracted to  collect a debt my shop at home to collect on a bad debt from 2004 I asked to to send me something in the mail and also that I had filed for bankrpsy  and he got relay pissed at me and said who is you damn  attorney  I asked again for them to put me something in the mail. He hung up  on me after saying a few worlds to me...

This number called my house. NO msg left. Called back and got Mr. John Gibson('supervisor"). Wanted to speak to some lady. Advised he has the WRONG NUMBER! He wanted my name.. ummm ABSOLUTELY NOT SCAMMER!

Just got another phone call back from Mr. Shapiro.  I didn't answer, I let it go to voicemail.  He is saying I need to call him back immediately...however  the first time I got a phone call it was from 757-716-7193 and the girl had called me and transferred me to him, then he gave a call-back number of 877-394-0396 ext 2013, and this phone call came up as 757-716-7197....Interesting....If you call from the same office phone number everytime you call a client I am positive that the number should show up on caller ID the same way every single time you call someone....unless it's a scam......

I got a phone call from a girl just after 8am, saying she has paperwork and asking if I am ___  ___ with the last four of my social being XXXX.  My response was "Uh, ok...." like confused.  She put me on hold and came back on with her boss,  Mr. Shapiro claiming he is "attempting to collect a debt" from 2004.  He restated my social security number, asked me about all of my previous addresses, which he already had, and told me that he can give me any information about the place that I supposedly owed including my old bank account information, address of the store, and listed off the place where the debt supposedly came from....First of all, how does he have ALL of my previous addresses?  He shouldn't be looking at my credit information even if they are debt collectors, they do not need to look at my credit file, just the file they have bought.  Next flag would be that when I asked to mail a money order they said they do not do that, that it must be an ACH transaction.  Next big flag was that, they are calling my cell phone number...how did they even get that?  And to top it off, a week or two ago my husband got a similar phone call from a different number, saying they were a different company trying to collect on an old payday loan from the exact same company that this place claimed to be trying to collect for.  I called the FTC and filed a claim after seeing many of these posts.  The post included below is one that I found particularly helpful and I am going to add the information I have to this list below.

This is from a bottom feeding Debt Collector - Consumer Recovery Associates. All you have to do to stop the harrassing calls is tell them: "Don't ever call me again, or I will report you to the FDCPA".

If they call you, they have illegally tapped into your credit file in hopes of collecting debt that is beyond the SOL (statute of limitations) for collecting. DO NOT OFFER ANY PERSONAL INFO like your social security # or banking info.

If you receive a call from this number, you may have been called by junk debt / collection agency that buys debt from original creditors that has been written off or settled and is beyond the statute of limitations in most states. Bad, Bad People.  Just received a phone call from a LEACH trying to suck private info about an elderly man.  You can smell there nastiness over the phone.  Don't Get Caught!!

What these people don't know is that sometimes the numbers they call go to people who work in the  law enforcement/fire protection area... He was threatening to arrest my husband and he was going to jail. I have personally taken it upon myself to make a report and now that I think about it, I think they have tried to threaten me too..... Everyone has such good advice on here, the best is DON"T EVER GIVE ANY INFORMATION!!!! All they need is just one piece of information to complete the process of either stealing your identity or bank information.... Seriously sad that people are preying on others during such hard economic times.  I am not saying don't pay your bills, but don't be threatened, bullied or coerced into giving up anything!!! Go with your gut, if it doesn't feel right, end the call! so report them to the Virginia Attorney General, you AG in your state, the BBB, the big credit reporting agencies....everyone!

Oh and the best part was after "Sherri" was done leaving him a voicemail (before he called back) You could totally hear some guy in the background, laughing about "some guy" who was asking him, are you threatening me?  Super professional, really! When I grow up, I wanna be a scammer just like you. I wonder what their moms think about what they do.....

Just received a call from this number purporting to relate to a debt, after assuring the caller that I do not do business of the phone and they could send me a letter or come visit me as all the rest of my customers do, the reply was" I need to verify your SSAN. Are you going to give it to me or not?" Needless to say I hung up the phone....what a bunch of idiots...

A guy called me trying to find someone and gave the last four numbers of a social security number and said this was the last number they had for the person.  Was I the person, no. He went on and on to see if I was related to the person.  I hung up and checked to see what/who was calling.

If they are not supposed to be operating according to a lawsuit and the business is in the process of "winding down" and in Receivership...they are still operating!  The last information was from early December, and there is nothing shown that they are allowed to make calls, quite the opposite.

The URL's given above provide the information about the lawsuit and them being in receivership. Hopefully, the law is watching this website to see they are still working and trying to contact people, unlawfully, as of this date.

Call this am from a (Nicole), no company name, Caller ID listed Private Number, 757-716-7196, asking for my daughter by name which doesn't live here, reference some "documents", and when I asked for more info she said it was a "private matter."  Left a number for my daughter to call back - 877-394-0396, and hungup with even telling me goodbye....

it is a collection agency that is using scare tactics which are illegal!!! to collect on outdated paypay loans from over 6 years ago.  the gentle man I had the pleasure ( thats a joke0 was a rude SOB and threatened me telling me that I had 12 hours to get him the money or I was going to be prosecuted... that is illegal... also, his name was Maurice Parker and a lady was the cover for him... DONT PAY THEM!!!! they are scam artist who have paid pennies on the dollar for you bad debt !!

Rec'd a call from 757-716-7196. Wasn't rude, however, not for me. They always think you are lying when you are actually telling them you are not who they are calling for. Not even sure who they were.

I got a call just like the rest of you from the rude lady at this number. Afterward, I looked it up and saw that it is a scam. Luckily, I did not give out any information simply bc I was confused about who they were. I will let her have a piece of my mind if that btch wants to call back.

(757) 716- 7196 just called me. They started they were from CRA and They were looking for a person with my same and last name to discuss a debt. They wanted me to verify if the last 4 of my social security number was xxxx. I told them "I am sorry. That isnt my social security number. They then asked if I knew of another (person with my same name and last name). I told them 'Sure. Its a very common name and last name in the latino community. There is probably thousands". They said "Thank you for your time!" and hung up. Real rushed.

NEVER ever give out your name, address, social security or any other information about yourself over the phone. We are in the double-dip recession and even the scammers are using covert ops, such as debt collection as to scam people.

Got a call this morning with a message I must call back. Called back they wanted me to verify my last 4 digits of social. When I would not confirm are deny without knowing who they were they got very rude & loud & said have repenstation call them back. They never would give me any information on who are what it was about. Reporting it now to attorney general.

I received a call from this number expecting it to be a scam after their "pitch" and stated to them I was with my attorney at the moment over a different issue. Of course I wasnt, but I took it upon myself to reveal the "different issue" of a sexual harassment case filed by a telemarketer.... and then asked what she was wearing. She promptly hung up. :D

I too also received a call from this same number. When they tried to verify the last 4 digits of my social it was incorrect. I was put on hold, the lady came back on the line and claimed that she was trying to collect a debt. She asked me my name and I told her my first name, then she tried to say my last name was something else, I told her that wasn't my last name and that the last for digits of my SSN  that she gave me were incorrect. She seemed not to believe me by her response, "I think you are so-n-so and I believe the last 4 digits of your SSN are ****."

I just rec'd a call on my cell for my husband saying the sane things about paperwork he doesn't know about and needing an urgent call back. We called back and cra recording came up. We were put on hold then hung up. Then I found this site with similar calls.

A woman from this number (757) 716- 7196 called saying her name was Sofia. She was looking for my sister and said it was important that she call back her office. She left a call back number of (877) 394-0396. I ask her what is this about but, she just hang up?very rude!

Then they promptly made a determination then hung up on me. The phone number I received the call from was 757-716-7196 . I called it back they answer CRA . I asked what type of company they were they said there were 13 different depts. and I had reached a dept but they would not state what dept it was. They were very rude and abrupt and hung up fast.
Upon further research I discovered that this company appears to have been shut down by the Federal Trade Commission in Sept 2011.
