They just called me regarding a credit application I didn't fill out. I have a fraud alert on my credit so no credit can be approved without speaking with me and me answering several personal security questions..
You should answer the call and hold for the couple minutes.. it was worth it for me as I shut down a fraud attempt.

My caller(s)  is/ are  from Monterey Financial. So far they don't seem to like leaving a message and they call from SO MANY different numbers I'ts all I can do to keep up with blocking them. Fortunately I can rotate the numbers they use as needed, to block up to 250 specific caller ID profiles. Could only be for medical bills I've disputed with the provider and insurer.
I am now terminal so they can get in line or blow me. I ain't stressing any more.

I get several of these a day... I have it blocked but it still comes through silently (cheap Obamaphone)... anyway it goes to voice-mail and when I listen to it it's obvious the recording has already started before the recording starts... it says that if I continue to listen to the call it's an acknowledgment of the debt.... blah blah blah. I have no bad, slow or late debt... have checked all of my credit reports and am not a day behind on anything I pay on.  I hope someone figures out a way to shut the stupid place down.  I don't want to call them on any other regular phone as that number will then be in their system and start getting the calls.  Besides it's obviously bogus anyway.  So frustrated every time my phone beeps and I see that number.  You'd think the computer would eventually give up.  It's been six months now.

This number belongs to Monterrey Financial.  While they're pretty low ball, they aren't a collection company like ones that buy past due accounts for pennies on the dollar.  Chances are the amount they're trying to collect won't show on your credit report.  I am diabetic and about 18 months ago purchased an insulin pump from Medtronics.  Medtronics set me up on a payment plan for the portion of the cost not covered by insurance.  Medtronics has Monterrey Financial do their billing, payment processing, etc.  If my monthly payment is more than 5 days late, Monterrey starts with the phone calls, messages, etc.  If you call Monterrey, the people in customer service are nasty.  The start out being nasty and they don't stop.  Yesterday I called three times and the call was cut off by Monterrey the first two times.  When I finally got someone and was upset, she got attitude with me and asked me what my problem was.

Robo calls, especially on your cell phone, are against the law.  You can file a couple of pieces of paperwork and fine them!

Go to www.whatliesinyourdebt.com.........

Don't hang up, answer the call and record the number and time/date.

These people call me twice every day speaking in Spanish.  I understand they are collectors but I do not owe anything to anybody.  They must be held accountable for disturbing lives of other people and pay heavy price.  Only these action can stop their behavior because these people understand only money language.

If you truly have "harassment charges" and outright deception that will stick to a FDCPA claim, don't wait for "government" to mount a rescue. Send your notices, gather evidence of naughty conduct, and name the collector as "Defendant" before your statutory year dries up.

Please note the operative word ''market'' within "telemarketer". A debt collector is not a sales person and therefore not defined by the FTC as such.

Verbal notice is not worth the paper it's not printed on. First I'll point you to my same advice for a more permanent solution.
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-454-5482/4#p488204151060427512

You could dispute the debt or just shut them up now. Either way you know you're right and it's their problem to prove otherwise. As for the credit reporting, nothing should be there that isn't true or not yours. Insisting on faulty reporting in fact violates the FDCPA.

I would bet the tradeline only temporarily vanished for your dispute, then was "verified" and reappeared. You first should dispute with the big three credit reporting agencies, on paper and referencing real paper reports. Many people find that won't erase the bad data, but you "must pass Go" before taking your fight straight to the collector(s) who slapped the bogus debt there, probably hoping to tank your score and force you to pay. You might have to sue the lies off your reports, or at least credibly threaten to. The chief controlling law helping you is the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The Credit InfoCenter site has a great volume of helpful guides and discussion to help with procedure.

You and Brooke and Liz failed to understand what this site is for. These forums are for call recipients to share their experience and optionally offer advice. No one else reading this page can ''make these calls stop'' on your behalf.

Collector calls are your problem to control. Luckily you have state and federal laws to help you. I discuss your options in this other thread:

I would love to see this company investigated by the government for harassment charges. I just got done for the second time telling them not to call me or else my lawyer and the better business office will have a nice chat with them. I asked to speak to a manager and got the usual telemarketer response there are none available what a joke. Then was told it was a system error again a joke.

This is an independent debt collection agency. They have called me regularly for a couple years now trying to collect on a debt for a vacuum cleaner. I have never purchased a vacuum cleaner in my life, or heard of the company they were calling on behalf of. I had told them over the phone and by registered letter on several occasions they had the wrong person. I have no collection accounts, no debits, nothing they should be calling me about so I blocked their number and filed a complaint with the FCC. The calls stopped eventually. But when I checked my credit report recently I found they had reported a bad debt on my credit report! Of course, I had it removed immediately and now they've started calling me again. I blocked the number again. I don't know what else to do other than to hire a lawyer (at additional expense) to file a cease and desist order, but I doubt that would even stop them.

I have been receiving calls for about two years now.  This is a scam artist if ever there was one.  What happened is we were scammed into buying a vacation plan from them.  Several thousand dollars if one paid it all.  When I called about getting a motel; any kind of trip, I was told they didn't service that area.  I was supposed to get a cruise free for signing up.  I got paperwork and then they wanted me to send my passport.  No way am I sending strangers my passport.  That's when the trouble began. I looked them up on google and found pages of complaints just like mine.  We told them we weren't paying any more and the calls started.  Have fun.  I called the Attorney General and they say they have a suit pending on them, but meanwhile I keep getting calls. I just hang up or don't answer when I see who it's from.

They have called my father twice a day, everyday, for about three months now. When they call, they leave Spanish language messages. We do not speak Spanish. We do not owe money, either. My father is a disabled Vietnam veteran. He finds these calls to be very upsetting, and as a veteran he deserves some peace.

This is what I've found:
