OK irkedI  I completely understand your reaction to unwanted "repeat" callers.  You can and should block those calls or ignore them.  But first time callers or numbers you don't recognize, you really should answer.  If you don't, you run a big risk of missing important calls or even emergency calls.  The caller might be an old friend, classmate, relative, etc. etc, and there are lots of legitimate reasons why they cannot or choose not to leave a message.  The call could be coming from police, firefighters, or a hospital with an urgent message about a friend or loved one.  Just pick up the phone and say: "HELLO."  it's so easy, and it's the right thing to do!

To "MakeSense" you only see part of the picture.  There are some of us that work night shift and sleep days. The issue is not whether or not to answer the phone when there is a caller you do not recognize but that you got the call in the first place.  I have to leave my phone on so that important calls from family that I care about can reach me asap. I don't mind get those important calls in my
sleep.  But it makes me made to receive these SCAM calls to wake me from my sleep.  I am sure that
there are others out there that for what ever reasons must leave their phones on and are doing something they consider important be interrupted by these scam callers even for a brief few seconds that it takes to identify that the call comes from someone that don't recognize.  And think of how they would feel getting these repeat calls all day everyday.  Annoying!!!

No offense, Gene, but I get a minimum of 5-10 calls every day from numbers that I don't recognize and half the time they are "repeat numbers" ~ numbers that have already called once or twice already during the course of the day. After a while, my patience with receiving these calls starting early in the morning and lasting all day long and continuing until late at night starts to run thin. There is no more "polite and nice" left in me when I've asked many of these people nicely to please stop calling and they continue to call day after day after day. If they would honor my request and stop calling, it would be a different story, but I've yet to have any of them listen when I ask them to not call again. Therefore, I just don't answer my phone anymore.

I just received a call close to 8:30 my time.  These idiots call on cell phones now.  Isn't there any justice in this world for these creeps.  If it isn't political calls on my landlines, it is these kind of scam artists on my cell phone.

I was just texting a friend and accidentally answered this f****r that called me from this number. It was a recording "CONGRADULATIONS!!  YOU HAVE WON......"  and I hung up.
So WTF is the "Do Not Call List" anyways????  Does it stop anyone from calling me?  Enough is enough!  These mother f****rs need to be stopped.  Does any phone company sell a f****ng phone that blocks all calls that aren't in your personal directory?  I would buy it for $500 right now!

I don 't understand or agree with your unwillingness or reluctance to answer phone calls just because you don't recognize the caller's number.  Why can't you be polite and nice instead of nasty and disagreeable?  It  is very simple to answer and say one word: "Hello."  After that, if for any reason you don't want the call to continue, just say one more word: "goodbye," and hang up.  If an unwanted caller is persistent, try saying something like: "I'm sorry, but I don't want  to talk or listen to you; please don't call again."

Love these out of area calls.  Started out with a survery.  Asked a few questions which I answered "maybe" to all of them.  I still qualified for the cruise....Yay!!!  When I was asked for my personal information for the cruise, I kept responding "maybe" to the questions until they hung up.

I received a SPAM call from this number on 08 May. I?m sure it is from the same scam outfit using software to fake the origin numbers (like phishing emails).

From what I've learned - they are running several scams. The basic scam is this: They pretend to be conducting a political survey, as political calls are not blocked by the do not call list. They ask two or three easy questions, and tell you that you won a gift ? like a free ship cruise. Then they will ask for your credit card number to pay for taxes and fees. Or they will do some variation of the above scam, like offering to reduce your credit card interest rate.

They always come back to the credit card - be aware! And if you do go on the cruise, the actual costs will go higher and higher, and you will be forced to attend a timeshare session before the cruise ? so you lose more time.

Don?t bother pressing (1) to be removed from their list ? that doesn?t work, as the criminals will not remove you from their call list, and may even increase the frequency of their calls. The FTC is pretty useless if they can't track and trap these abusers of our phone system. Remember ? the callers are NOT a legitimate business - they are criminals/scammers trying to get your credit card number so they can defraud you. Don't even answer the phone, don't call back, just block them.

I have added all of the scam phone numbers to my blocked phone list - so I will never be bothered again. If you cannot block calls - just add the number to your phone book, with "No Name" and set the ringer to silent. If they call again, you will not hear the ring.

Finally, here's a few more numbers they have supposedly called from.
Remember, Caller ID can be fooled!
I have personally received scam calls from these numbers:
213-550-3111
281-217-0241
312-765-7460

Prank Call
? Fake Survey (only 30 seconds/3-4 questions? Come on now!)
? No real cruise, has no real connection with either ROYAL Caribbean or Carnival!
? Actually located out of Florida
? Past spoofed numbers: 474-3940, 390-474-3948, 390-474-3949, 390-474-3914, 360-474-3907, all elsewhere other than Chicago, IL.  these boze's must have moved ... and fast! Only a short while ago did they use one from area code 360 (around Seattle).  That's almost 2,000 miles difference
? They use robo- dialing, which is illegal
? They use recorded message, illegal for telemarketers to use
? They refuse to stop when you ask them to stop calling
? They blatantly disregard the DoNotCall Registry and call numbers listed on it (like all the other scam artists have)
? That so-called survey is a 'switch' after you answer their stupid questions they switch to a sales call... the survey is an attempt to get around the do not call laws!
? What they are after,, at least, is your $$$$ ... maybe more (personal info to even ID theft)
* These idiots even called the Washington States Attorney General's Office (maybe that's why they are now spoofing a Chicago number)

Best bets are either Google Voice or TrapCall (or some call management device like Digitone or Ring Controller), as the numbers they use are spoofed ... their actual number will still get through.

"Why do any of you answer calls from phone #s that you don't recognize?"

What makes you think we do? Caller ID displays these unfamiliar annoying numbers and we (most of us anyway) look them up online and find out that, as we suspected, they are all pretty much a scam!!!

Filed a report with the Do Not Call registry. In the report, I stated that there were a few users of this website who believe that it is a scammer impersonating Carnival Cruise Lines.

I am thinking of putting this link in future reports to the Do Not Call registry and would appreciate feedback on this idea.

My cell died as I received a call from this #...

I think they thought I hung up on them as (when I turned on my phone) again there was a missed call from a blocked number.

There was a voice mail with out a message... no loss.

I wish my phone died on all sales calls.
