Not legitimate.  See posts at 647-247-1753. Scammers trying to get credit card info for a cruise. Using "political" survey as start to get around CRTC rules. Don't trust them.

These people wouldn't waste the money on call centres if they didn't make any money.  Who buys from these people???????????????  Stop buying and they'll stop calling.  Can we not start a public campaign, Facebook for example, to spread the word to every single person in Canada to stop buying?  Come on, let's do it!

Unfortunately that ploy won't work for long. The rip-off artists will just change their phone number and continue their harassment and intent to defraud. You should first report any incident of this type to:

Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre: http://bit.ly/PYICXw
E-mail: info@antifraudcentre.ca
Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, EST
Toll Free (Canada and U.S.A.): 1.888.495.8501
Overseas and Local: 1.705.495.8501
Toll Free Fax: 1.888.654.9426
Mailing Address: Box 686 North Bay, Ontario P1B 8J8

Also contact your service provider and make out a report with your local police. If they attempt to skirt the issue by stating they only investigate matters where a crime has been undertaken, remind them that their duty is to "protect and serve" and that "criminal intent" should be enough for them to take action.

Do police wait for a person reported to be stalking, to physically attack someone before they react? No.

Do police wait for a motorist to drive dangerously on the road before they stop and question them as to whether they've been consuming alcohol? No.

Do police wait for a peaceful protester to commit an actual crime before they harass or arrest them? No.

So why the "hands-off" policy when it comes to telecommunications crime?

It's well-established that people have lost money from phone scammers by sharing confidential banking information with them through the ruse of having won a contest, etc. Most people are wise to these fraud-artists but unfortunately the gullible and the infirm are often taken to the cleaners and only realize too late their mistake.

When I've contacted the the Anti-Fraud Centre previously, they tried to tell me these calls were difficult to trace because they originate from mobile phones (pay & talk) which require no proof of identity during registration. The scammers supposedly discard the phone soon after and use another to hide their trace.

Sounds plausible, but when I questioned a Telus service agent at a local kiosk about this, he checked the numbers I provided and informed me NONE of them came from mobile phones!! This means the swindlers are utilizing land-line phones that a phone company or a fraud investigator should be able to trace and take appropriate action to stop.

The fact that one of the phone numbers (780-356-3646) has complaints on 800 Notes dating from Sept 2011- May 2012 indicates there is a watchdog agency derelict in their duties. I intend to find out who and I urge others to take the same action to stop these phone thieves from harassing and defrauding law-abiding citizens.

This is a list of other known scam-callers that Telus checked and confirmed as utilizing land-line phones:

519-900-0475 - no answer (ONT)
905-917-8989 - won 250,000 air miles
780-356-3646 - credit card scam (AB)
250-352-9679 - Master Card imposter (BC)
780-854-6598 - bank imposter

The latest scam appears to be one where if you reply to a survey on the "National Debt Crisis", you qualify for a free trip to the Bahamas. (providing, of course, you divulge personal credit card information to the felons who will quickly withdraw your savings).

These creeps are smart. They know most citizens are fed up with the way governments squander their tax dollars and will seek any avenue they can to vent their frustration. Don't fall victim to their ruse. If you want to find out who government is feeding $160 MILLION EVERY DAY, watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3c-aN6Y7OU

Tele marketers - the one from BC looks like Capital One?
They get around the system by asking you to complete a short survey??
I've put them on mute and dialled 9. Let's see  if it stops.

I've had it up to my eyeballs with these friggin' long distance callers!!!! I get about three per day from DIFFERENT numbers. Phone company can't help. Only option is to put myself on a DO NOT CALL list ( I don't this these are legitimate surveys anyway!!!), or to purchase a *60 option which blocks out the last caller who called my house. This service costs 8 dollars per month, and you can block up to 12 different numbers per month. I'm seriously considering this cause I'm getting really pissed off. ONCE, about three weeks ago, one of these "unknown callers" actually said some pretty filthy things, and it really ticked me off -- enough to file a report with the police. We shouldn't put up with this s***! What if I ran to the phone to pick it up cuz I thought it was my sick aunt calling me from overseas, and I slipped and fell while trying to get the phone? These sickos have no life!
I've kept track of every single number that called me. Here they are:

Everyone please file a complaint with the NDNC list. I file an average 2 per day. I also file complaints when the same telemarketer calls a seconds time. I think we should flood NDNC list with complaints.

DNC list is worth crap. If they're calling your cell phone and you have an Android, get Mr. Number - caller ID and call blocking. You can have it pick up and hang up on them and never bother you.

If you have a land line, certain types of phones have call blocking in the phone itself or you can ask your provider how to block them. Cellphone companys will block a certain number of calls, you can add the number to your block list via their site usually, or call them and ask them to do it for you.

This number called me at 1:00 am and then again at 3:00 am. When I answered, dead line each time. When someone calls me in the middle of the night, I assume it could be serious... Had to go to work in morning as a zombie with lack of sleep due to these calls...then the next night, they called again at 1 and at 3 am, this time a recorded message about a free cruise.  I am on-call for work, so need to answer my phone promptly when it rings... How do I stop these people from calling me in the middle of the night? I am on the DNC list.

Survey
I have been receiving automated telephone calls for at least the last month asking me to participate to  a political survey. One of these calls reached me at 22:30 in the evening. I would like these calls to cease rapidly.
I am already registered on government of Canada site concerning unwanted calls. I left a message there also.
