Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Consider buying a call blocking device or phone..

They keep leaving tons of threatening messages. The one guy gave me a fake name. Started threatening me to pay 120 dollars. Then calls from other numbers every 30 seconds for hours on end and even tried to say I had out thousands of dollars in loans from them and we're filing a class action suit against me ,which was crap because I never heard of them before.  They even left a threatening message on my job answering machine even though I never gave them that information.

Advance fee loans are illegal in the US - in other words, you never have to pay money to get money.  Also, you can't owe money for a "cancellation fee" even if you did apply for a loan.  They're scammers.  Please do report them to the FTC, FCC and your state's Attorney General.

Claiming to be fastpaydayloans. Said I'm approved for $1000 to $5000 loan. Claimed I filled out an application online and am approved. When I told them I'm not interested and to remove my name and number they said I must pay a $125 cancelation fee. The so called manager, nelson math, said he didn't need my permission he was taking all the money I have out of my account. Good luck since you don't have my bank info and correct address! Major scam!
Gave me the address: 14600 northwest 7th avenue, Miami Florida, 33168

Don't fall for this scam! They will and do call from multiple numbers.
