Microsoft is aware of this aggressive calling. A bit pathetic that they were calling from +1.001.530 and the guy claimed to be Sam Watson (ID# J800), though clearly he was not with his poor handling of the English language.

I do not have caller ID on this phone but Samuel Watson from Microsoft Technical Center called to speak to the person using the windows computer at this number.  He said that malicious files had been downloaded to my PC and asked if I would go to that PC now.  I told him we have more than one.  (oops)  The line went silent (gave me the time to come to my senses!) for like 15 seconds and then he came back with the classic "can you hear me now" line.  Again, he asked that I go to the PC and open a browser.  I told him I was not comfortable with the call and I hung up.  I recently had a different call from "Verizon" who asked me to verify my ID by giving them my password!!!  Yea, right!
All very annoying.

I am not sure if it's from this number or unknown. Anyway to cut the story short, Indian lady (Heavy accent) claimed that I downloaded a lot of virus today and she was going to show me how to solve the issue. My com crashed twice today. Blue screen. She had my full name and house phone number.

When my brother wanted her to verify my PC details, she hung up on us.

Scam. Someone should do something about these people. I admit I was too gullible, almost believed her. Too much of a coincidence.

Call from Indian/Pakistani? sounding male who identified himself after my questioning, from a company called Windows Service Center. He was advising me that my computer (windows) was in serious trouble of being being invaded by many virus and spyware that would destroy it and steal all my files etc. When questioned about his relationship to Microsoft he implied his company just focused on Windows.  Ultimately when I refused to let him take control of my computer he abruptly hung up.  Obviously this was an attempt to steal my passwords and  control of my finances.  The phone number was: 212 654 2312.

They are still active not only in the US but also in Europe!
I have got the same call and had to do the same procedures(inf hidden virus, www.ammyy.com)  as in the message from Angry! They wanted me to renew my Firewall subscription! I refused, I said that if this windows product is not good they should provide a free update! In the end I was asked to fill in a form to be contacted later! That was an Western Union form, it did not make sense so I went out of the site immediately and logged off! However I was suspicious all the time, they got me so far that I let them connect to my PC! in order to "help me"!
I looked from my son's PC to the Microsoft.nl page and there was the warning about this scam!
I still cannot believe I have been so stupid!
Be careful!
Best wishes to you all from the Netherlands!

Prank Call
Just had a very similar call from a with-held number. Indian accented caller, noisy call centre, claimed to be calling from Microsoft Service Centre regarding serious problems with my pc discovered during checks of error reports sent from my pc.
Didn't press the caller for details as I concluded it was a scam more or less straight away and hung up.
Regarding anyone who says that they were 'helped' by this type of call, as someone claimed in an earlier post, I'd guess that their pc may be working fine but is now doing a whole lot of dodgy stuff in the background that they're not aware of.

Prank Call
Today is 31 March 2012 They are still at it!!!. At 8.15 pm received the above call. Have received 3 calls from this scam outfit in the last week having been left in peace for 6 months or so when I previosly had about 3 calls.

This has been going on for some months now and it is high time a stop was put to this. I shall report this to the police and I urge everyone who receives a call from these people to also report this to the police. It is a TOTAL SCAM, do not be fooled. What is very worrying is that they knew my number and full name.

I just had a call on my landline from some guys with Indian accents saying they were calling from the Windows Service centre at 1 Marina Centre. When asked how they knew me and my tel no they said since I was registered as a Windows user they were calling me to inform me I was having problems with my computer.
Since I've just moved to Singapore from Europe I was rather surprised. One, it's the first time our landline has rung. I don't even know our number nor was even aware that it had been connected (so couldn't have given it to anyone). Second, I told them I had never bought any microsoft products in Singapore so why would they have me as their registered user here in Singapore?
He passed me on to his "supervisor" who tried to get me to open up EVENTVWR. I asked for a telephone number to call back on and he gave me 3158 2724. I haven't tried to call back as I can see it's a scam.

Prank Call
i just got the call today..December 23rd..
funny that these messages are from summer time and it is still going around today...

i couldnt understand the f****r really but he said something about his name being Will or something. was an indian lad so im guessing it is the same guy. said i had malicous software being downloaded from internet and press some stupid key and hold r for a long time. me and my dad both told him to frigg off.
seemed pretty stupid tho..he did not know which computer had it and did not seem to know we had more then 1 in the house. if i WAS microsoft they would know that kind of stuff

hopefully no one has fell for it with it being so close to christmas it would be a bad time to call for it and get your computer hacked or CC number stolen.

also i got a call from private caller not the 1-800 number. but i asked why it was provate and not from a real company and he said its coming from the internet or something

i just got the same call from this guy who has very strong idian accent and the line got cut off 3 times when we were on the line. so i asked him where is he calling from and he said he is calling from the windows service centre and he told me to run programmes which started off with "inf hidden virus", followed by "eventwvr" and finally "www.ammyy.com". when he asked me how many files or documents i can see, i told him the number and he keep saying 'OMG, OMG' which sounded very irritating at first but i really thought my computer has some problems so i went on with the process which he asked me to. he asked if i could make decisions for my computer and asked if i am able to pay some amount through credit card which will be needed for my computer to be fixed and i told him straight away a NO. he mentioned that after i pay this amount all my problems will be solved. i told him i am in no position to make decisions on payments and he asked if he could call back at night. Initially i really thought it was true but as i grew suspicious, i went online and typed " windows sercvice centre" and i found that many other people faced the same circumstances and i finally knew that it was a scam. be careful of such phone calls.

Indian Lady called in to inform me about the same problem mentioned. I told her to call back 4 hours later as I wanted to verify on this issue.
I asked my husband and he said it is obviously a hoax and it was not logical in what she said. (As
I was really have little knowledge on how the cyber world works).
She called back at the agreed time and gave me the same toll free contact number so that my husband was sceptical and would like to verify. The Indian lady was very calm, gave me the toll free to verify if they are really "authorised" by Micorsoft.
I decided to do a google search and saw the other's experiences, so I thought I should share mine too.

The b*****ds are definitely a scam. They damaged my PC after I made payment and now wants me to get a local vendor to fix it. They are not even willing to come to and address the problem. When I asked them why, they couldn't give me an answer. Instead they said" Is that possible?". I would like the authorities to investigate.

Received a call from an Indian woman an hour ago claiming to be Ana from Windows Service Centre .. Same old story as above.. Gave me the same 8001012199 for "verification" purposes.. She said tons of error reports had been generated from my PC which has been "automatically" loaded with virus files etc and that it is about to crash... She asked me what anti-virus I am using and how old is my PC etc etc and offered to connect me to her technician who can help me to get rid of those virus-infested files....  I found the whole thing to be  suspicious and  I ended the call mid way through the conversation with an excuse. I did a search and found this page before she called again...  Same old scam....  Beware...

Got a call from a guy claiming they are from Microsoft, Window service centre on 5 Sept 2011. He informed me that my computer had been sending error signal and had malicious file which can wipe out my computer. He asked me to run "prefetch". I did not believe him and grew suspicious, giving him excuse that Iam busy and would call him back. He then give this number : 8001012199.
