Just recieved 3 back to back phone calls and finally a VM from Ashley Stuart with "unintelligable" Recovery Systems, nasty threatening tone of voice demanding a return call, left a case number . . . she can burn in hell waiting for a return call from me.  I realize that jobs are hard to come by but anyone who takes a job with these scavengers has no integrity and that is probably why they could not find a decent job in the first place.

I got a message about 2 months ago from a Veronica. She left a message on my phone with a claim number and that I was about to be sued and needed to call her back right away. I did and she told me she worked for a lawyer's group and that I had an outstanding debt from the Bank of Maryland for $8000 from 2004. I disputed the debt and told her to send me documentation and then got off the line.
She called back about a month ago and left another message that I or my attorney need to call her back immediately to take information for a "deposition".
I know about lawsuits, you do not do a deposition until after you have received a summons regarding the lawsuit in the mail.
Then last Thursday (2/21/13), she left another message with a different claim number and said, that I had to call he back immediately. There was nothing more she could do to stop the lawsuit. And that I had been notified.
Assuming it is a legitimate debt and I doubt it, I've never been to Maryland. A debt from 2004 is not collectible unless you acknowledge the debt is yours. Continuing to leaqve messages like this is not a lawful way of collecting the debt. If it was legitimate, according to Federal law, they would have to of sent me a written notice within 5 days of the first phone call. I have received no such documentation. Only "urgent" phone calls. I have not called back since the first time, as legally, I'm not obligated to.

They keep calling my mother & step-father's house looking for my father (whom she has been divorced from for 25+ years) stating she is Ms. Stuart with GE Money Bank in reference to #3549788. My father has no idea who, what, when, how or why they are calling.

I just got a very similar call from this number. Caller said she was Kate Wilcox, that I or my attorney needs to get in touch with her office immediately because someone has filed a claim (or complaint) with them. That she can help me get it dismissed but I need to call her or she will have to take the other party's complaint as valid and decide with them against me. She then left this number 800-213-5342. and a file number.  Sounded very official like someone's secretary calling 10:54 a.m. (EST).  If I had no legal background she could have bluffed me.  That's not how the legal process works, but I was surprised to get the message since most unwanted callers don't leave a voicemail message, just hang-up. The legal process starts with a letter or written notice of complaint, not a phone call, unless you and the caller personally know each other.  If being sued, a process server must personally put the complaint in your hand, so beware of tricks by strangers to lure you from home.  I wish I had finished law school, but there are so many legal defense issues that can be raised it would make one's head spin; e.g., how old is the debt, has the statute of limitations run, does it violate the statute of frauds not being in writing and made within a year, is there privity of contract ( who are you trying to collect what debt?), is your arithmetic correct? (GAAP: Generally Accepted Accounting Standards) with false compounded interest, etc.  By far the most helpful website on debt is: <www.creditinfocenter.com>  So if you get that call, don't fret but remember this sage wisdom from the book of books: Isaiah 26:3.  Have a Blessed Life!

First off I have to disagree with the last message.  Look up the FDCPA, even as a third party, you can sue a debt collection agency for every violation.  Third party disclosure is a violation.  Harassing a 3rd party or being dishonest is a violation.  Look up the information on the FTC web site,  keep all records make complaints and sue the mess out of them.  NEVER PAY THEM ANYTHING MAKE THEM PAY YOU FOR EVERY VIOLATION  EVEN IF IT IS YOUR DEBT.

An active investigation on her SSN?  Oh give me a break.  Don't call them back, just let your sister know someone is scamming using her info, and the next time they call don't answer either.  Delete any message, and if you should pick up, hang up immediately.  Just check the links along the side of this website for the forum threads, news and articles.  This is all over the internet like a rash, and if you don't let yourself be used in it, you'll be a lot happier.  If they persist, you can always try talking to a consumer attorney in your area, since it isn't about you, and they are harrassing you (if they are, of course.)

I received a message on my answering machine from this number for my sister who doesn't even live with me. The man said his name was Steve Garcia and he went on to say that my sister is involved in an "active investigation" and that her social security number is attached to it. He then said it was a very serious matter, left a case number and hung up. I then called him back and this same man answered identifying himself as a Steve Garcia. I then asked to know what organization it was and he quickly got an attitude and demanded a case number. After asking him 3 times, he finally said the name of the organization was "CRS". I then told him he has violated FDCPA law and is in lot of trouble for pretending to be a law enforcement official notifying my sister of possible identity theft in order to collect a debt. Yes, it's called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Be sure to Google it.

Received call from "Veronica" saying she was with CIT Group and that I owed money. Explained that the account she was calling about was settled with a debt collector and that account was settled back in July 2009. I tried to contact the person that had settled my account at CRS there is no "Ms. White" that is employed there, spoke to a Mark Clark who then said my account was not settled because they couldn't find anything in writing and they can't control what their employees tell consumers. I paid a total of $1500 to settle and now am being harassed again!! Is there a law against this??? They now say they will "settle" for an additional $500.00 dollars. Is this legal? What options do I have? Can anyone help?

Got a call from "Veronica" saying that my attorney or I had to call her back, and she could not help me otherwise.  Didn't say what company she was with, but when I did call the number back, I got a voicemail saying the company's name.
