800-223-2070

I just received a call at work from a Ron Chase saying his from a lawyer firm Weltman, Weinburg, & Reis. Said he was calling about my Student Loan with GMAC that was pass due. I have student loans but none of them are due yet because I am still in school. He wanted to verify my identity with the last four of my social security number, when I wouldn't give that to him he wanted my address. I told him I couldn't talk about this at work and he told me to call him back at 800-223-2070 ext 20646 by the end of day or further legal action will be taken.
It's funny because GMAC doesn't handle my student loans anymore they were sold to AES, and none of them are in repayment yet. I am going to contact my student loan department and see if this is legit. I have also looked at my credit report and I don't show any of my student loans still with GMAC, in repayment or pass due.
They don't call my home number or cell phone they call me at work. Kind of weird.

calling my business looking for some one else
| Toni 2011-06-06 20:57:18 Unknown |
Have called here several times about a debt that is already taken care of. They never identify themselves, just ask a lot of questions that I refuse to answer. If they continue to call I am reporting them to the FTC and the Attorney General's office.

We recently received a call from my boyfriends ex wife stating that she called the 800 223 2070 back due to she was receiving calls for him from that number. She stated that either he call them or she would give them his phone number. So he called them back on speaker phone. I was apalled at what I heard. Mind you we have copies of his credit report and he has not shared his ex wifes phone number since 2005. This guy spouted off my boyfriends ssn to him without even verifying an address or phone number. Then claimed that it was regarding an old debt of a jc penny card held through hsbc bank. The wild thing about this is that he has never had a credit card through anyone but Bank of America in which neither company is affiliated. When he said that he didnt know what he was talking about the guy said "come on now" is this not your ssn? We just disconnected the call and are trying to research the call.

Shyster illegitimate collection agency. Don't be intimidated. If you have a legitimate debt to a legitimate creditor, call the creditor and deal directly with the creditor.

Please give me some advise. These people keep calling. My family does not owe anybody. I am about to call my phone company and see if I can get this number blocked. I would appreciate any advise that will stop these phone calls.

This company keeps calling and asking for a family member to call them back them. If they are a collection company, my family does not owe them anything. Never have received any bills owed here at my house.

Okay, Advocate, why then if they are doing 'something' right can they not send anything through the mail justifying a claim?
Because Congress is in the hip pocket of big money...

After discussions with the Ohio Attorney General's Office, I found that collection agencies are exempt from the Do Not Call Registry. The suggestion I received was to contact your state senators and representatives and voice your concern about the unwanted harrassment that is being iniated to wrong numbers. The Do Not Call Registry was created to stop the calls especially to elderly individuals that may have physcial issues making answering a call a problem and may be confused by the intent of the call. There needs to be protections put in place that require these collection outfits to verify their contact information on an individual before initiating their robo calls and collection procedures on the wrong individual. That then has to for no reason fight to prove they aren't the person the collection agency is seeking. Do a Google or Yahoo search for your state or federal congressmen and voice your concerns. And do it today!

If you are already on the Do Not Call Registry, you can visit the site below to verify your number is there. You do not need to renew. The Registry does not expire. You can also file a Federal complaint for violating the Do Not Call Registry. The fine for this is $11,000 an instance. Keep track of the date and times of the calls to give to the state and federal agencies when they contact you.
Visit https://www.donotcall.gov to do any of these things:
-- to renew your registration
-- to file a complaint
Most telemarketers will be required to stop calling you 31 days from your registration date. The people that are calling you are counting on you not using the state and federal resources at your disposal. Show them they just called the wrong person and file a complaint. And do it today.

Get on the Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray's website and file a formal complaint for unsolicited phone calls even with being on the Do Not Call list. Form is a little difficult to use. You can not back up if you make a mistake. You have to start over.
http://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/ConsumerComplaint
The website for the outfit calling us is. http://www.weltman.com/. You can get all the contact info off that website. File a complaint and lets shut this outfit down.

Have been receiving relentlous calls from this number. I have no arrears. When I call this number it refers me to an out of service recording. Weltman, Weinberg & Reis CO, LPA
I'm on the no call list. I guess I'll have to send a letter requiring them to quit. Next I'll have to contact MY lawyers.

A Mrs. Bonner from this law firm called looking for a person in which she referanced in trying to get ahold of a suspected relitive of theirs. Of course she didn't say what she wanted of the person she looking for, but the question is why would they try to call and asked someone about someone who is not around? In short it is a LEI they use to talk to the person whom they think they have a claim to in collecting a dept. Nice try bean-head but just so you know your dirty little tricks "lieing" will send you to hell just as fast as anything else you do.

Received voice mail from 1-800-223-7824 and a female voice said, "This call is for John ******. Please call Weltman, Weinberg, and Reis at 1-800-286-9403 and reference number 7219905. I called the number and someone who identified himself as Neal answered the phone. I asked what company was I calling and he repeated, "Weltman, Weinberg, and Reis." and asked if I had a reference number. I gave him the reference number and again asked what kind of company I was calling. He put me on hold with elevator music for about 5 minutes. He came back on the phone and asked for the last four digits of my social security number. I again asked what company he represented and he repeated the names and said, "We have been in business for 75 years and it would be in my best interest to give me the information so I would be sure who I'm talking to." He also said he had my address in front of him. I told him I had no intention of giving him any information until he gave more information about what this was about. He said he could not divulge that information so I told him I couldn't divulge any information either and hung up.
