Its almost midnight, and I just received a call on my cell phone from this number. Almost makes me glad I'm somewhat nocturnal, and wasn't woken up by an unknown number I will never answer.

This number has been calling my cell phone almost every day for the past week, usually at 9 am. I answered the first time, there was no response.

Received a phone call from (800) 225-5288. I didn't answer. They didi't leave a message. I called the number back and it was AT&T talking about collect calls, etc. Scam? Or someone actually calling me collect? Mmmmmmm.
yeah, stop calling already 2010-02-23 15:34:28 Unknown
Same here -- has called daily for the last several days, once or twice a day, and when the machine picks up (I never answer 800 calls), no message.
If someone doesn't leave a message, it's not serious enough for me to pay attention to the call, you know?
Stop Calling 2010-02-20 18:43:43 Unknown
Calls about six times a day and hangs up when the machine picks up. I think this might be ATT from googling the number. If you are going to call leave a message or stop calling!
anon 2010-01-08 20:18:02 Unknown
Also, an operator can be brought on the line if needed. Listen carefully to the automated message.
The call is not accepted/charged until you say the words "Accept".

This is AT&T's 1-800 Number.
If this pops up on your caller ID, someone is trying to call you collect.
It could be someone you know or not. Be cautious, and be sure to listen carefully when the caller's name is mentioned before accepting!

I received a call from 1-800-225-5288. My caller-ID listed it as "Toll Free Call," so I didn't answer. I then got a voice mail saying it was AT&T calling about a recent call I had made to AT&T. Since my customer service rep was very capable and helpful, I will take the call the next time.
That number stands for 1-800-CALL ATT.

Same junk! I rec'd a couple of calls from 800-225-5288. A person with Middle Eastern accent identifies herself as being from AT&T, but "not a sales call". She asks me to confirm my name, once I do, she hangs up. Is AT&T frontloading these calls so we request more services??? I already subscribe to their Anonymous Caller ID svc which is supposed to route these calls to a recording. Yet, they also offer "Privacy Manager" which does a similiar function for more $$$$. I emailed cust svc to see why the svc included with my acct, which I am paying for is not working. I also inquired about so many 800 numbers getting through. I have been on No Call Registry forever. Even rec'g a spam call on my AT&T GoPhone from some preacher over and over agin quoting scripture! We'll see what they have to say.

Received a call from 1-800-225-5288 person said he was calling about my DSL and said he needed to clean my computer of viruses.
Informed me that it would take 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
I told him I didn't have time and he said he would call back Mon or Tues.
I called a DSL rep and they put their supervisor on the phone and they told me it was a scam call to just disregard it.
The same person called back from 1-800-225-5288 three times on Sat. I spoke with him the last time and lied to him telling him that my DSL was working just fine but I needed his name and a phone number I could reach him at, he said his name was Jim and I could call 1-888-321-2371.
I called Customer service Monday morning and they also told me that it was a scam, I turned around and called them again and this time was told that the phone number was affiliated with AT&T and was one of their old numbers.
I called DSL Wednesday and they verified that one of their Representatives had called me four times on Saturday but denied that it was generated from 1-800-225-5288, however that is the phone number that showed up on my caller ID.
This is a scam and it is one that AT&T is aware that they are responsible for.
I have called the annoyance phone line and they said there was nothing they could do about it, they refused to try and trace the call.
I think AT&T is the ones that is generating these calls, as soon as I can find a way to get another phone service that is in no way affiliated with AT&T I will join the other 40,000 people in my County and leave them to scam those that haven't left them yet.

Called to ask me how my service was. What was weird was I was just having some issues with my connectivity at the time. Maybe they detected it, regardless just told me to contact a technician when the issues was happening. It happens every 30 minutes I said. Then the guy tells me to call the technician number when its happening. I guess its cheaper to have somebody who doesn't know things about connectivity to call and ask about it rather than somebody who could actually help you on the spot. By the way it was almost 8 on a Friday when they called me.

Received call from 800-225-5288. Person identified himself as being from AT&T - asking if I was satisfied with my AT&T DSL Internet service. Very strange. After asking a few questions, hung up with no further explanation for reason of call.

I received a telephone call to my residential phone on December 2, 2008 that Star-69 reported as (800) 225-5288.
The number stands for "CALL ATT," an automated service apparently used to initiate foreign and operator assisted calls. Still curious, I navigated through the menu hoping to speak to a customer service representative. At some point, the automated voice asked me to confirm my telephone number which it identified as (518) 956-0000, incredibly not the actual number from which I was calling. Subsequently, the AT&T rep could not explain why I got a phone call from "CALL ATT" or why their computers would misidentify an incoming call from my phone on a line serviced and listed by AT&T. Furthermore, AT&T did not have information for (518) 956-0000. Nevertheless, a brief Internet search suggests this is supposedly a cell phone with an Albany, NY area code, however, it answers with a fax tone. I remain mystified.
An earlier post to this site referenced OPTICOM, a company that is reputed to charge much higher rates than AT&T for similar connections. It is my understanding that Opticom's number was (800) 255-5288, so suspiciously close to "CALL ATT" as to catch the unwary who might dial in error. When firmly pressed for identification, operators at 255-5288 now report it as listed to NCIC, Network Communications International Corporation. I would not be surprised if NCIC might have an equally dubious rate structure.

Received two calls on my cell. Did not answer. Looked up the # and it said "Opticom". Reported to be a "rip off" company that uses schools, hospitals, prisons, etc. to charge very very very high rates.
