I had a "person" named Paul call me from this number today, impersonating a legitimate bill collector.  He knew my former address, my maiden name, former married name, and current married surname.  He knows my social, or at least the last 4 numbers of it.  He knows that I am a "large lady", because the store that I apparently owe money to is a store that caters to "large ladies".

I don't know how Paul knows all of this, and it's highly disturbing, because the store, named "16+" (or some other variation thereof) doesn't exist, or at least doesn't exist as a store that I have ever shopped at, or a store that is large enough to have its own credit.  (I found a tiny Greek boutique with a similar name in my search.)  Paul picked the right person to victimize, because in addition to being physically ill, and vulnerable in that way, my ex-husband has stolen my identity in the past (when I was in the hospital fighting for my life, nonetheless), and with another lady, opened a bank account, etc.  So it wasn't impossible for me to believe that there was some outstanding debt that I didn't initiate.  However, this smelled fishy, and with some research, I found that indeed this place didn't exist, and that people were also complaining about being targeted as senior citizens with this agency trying to force them to pay power bills from nearby companies that they'd never signed up with, and other complaints.

When my husband called Paul to discuss all of this, and tried to ask him rational questions that one might want to ask before handing over a personal check, Paul hung up on him.  My husband called him back, and Paul got in a yelling match.  My hubby also, still unbeknownst to Paul, caught the shyster by asking him if he was in Colorado (the location of the phone number and debt collection agency he was supposedly working for), and Paul said "no", three times.  Finally, when my husband asked for a contact number for the store in question, '16+' or 'Sixteen Plus', or whatever, Paul spent three and a half minutes mumbling to himself, and tapping at his keyboard, before telling him that he 'couldn't find one'.  After Paul was confronted with the facts, from hubby, that even if a debt had been incurred, the statute of limitations for debt collection is 4 years (the debt, according to Paul, would have had to have been incurred at least 9-10 years ago), Paul started in on a last resort of a guilt campaign, saying things like "Well, your wife obviously CARES about her credit, but it's clear that YOU don't!"

It very well may be that these people are hiding behind the name of 'IEI Financial', like a spam e-mail, as they have one number on caller ID, and another callback number in a completely different state, and find it to their advantage to use this company (bonded in Texas, and signed with the BBB) as their own.  Or it may be that this company is as unscrupulous as all of this.  My husband will be calling IEI directly and seeing if he can find 'Paul' in order to figure that out later on this afternoon.  Regardless, I sincerely suggest that anyone who sees this phone number on their caller ID either disregard it; pick it up and put it back down, LOUDLY; or demand that these individuals remove them from their list and never call again.

i have been getting calls from them since i signed up for cell phone service from cingular (now AT&T) some 4 years ago. funnily the new phone i bought came arrived at my doorstep with a voicemail...from guess who...IEI financial services. since then they call me about 3-4 times a month! sometimes it flashes as unknown, sometimes as an Indianapolis number. i have friends in Indy so i would answer. sometimes the call is voice activated i.e. its blank if you say nothing when you answer the call. i have a suspicion somehow they get the phone numbers from the phone company. such scamsters!

I also have been getting calls from this number every day and sometimes after 8pm.  I have not picked up once and they always leave a voicemail that does not include the name of their company, saying that this is an important message for an individual that is not me.  I'm about ready to go to my cell phone company and ask them to block this number for me!

Back again! After calling them back every time they called me and insisting that they needed to remove me from their list because they were calling the wrong person, I am finally not receiving their calls anymore. But trust me - it took every day for weeks, calling and arguing the laws with them. Talk to their supervisors and let them know you have filed reports on their company. Don't let them fool you - robo calls need to be prefaced by your acceptance and even if it is for debt collection or the like - if they have the wrong phone number for the wrong person, they should stop harassing you regardless.

I receive phone calls from 1-800-226-2446 every day around 4pm and on occasion other times of the day as well. As this is my work phone number, it is highly obnoxious and uses up the shared minutes we as a company already have too few of. Every time this number calls it is an automated message and every time I push option 3 to report that it is a misdial and they have the wrong number. After far too much patience, I have begun to call back and ask to be removed. They say the company is called Virtuoso Facets Service but refuse to speak about what the company actually does and instead cut me off. The last two times I called, they have been IMMEASURABLY RUDE, yelling at me and hanging up on me. If they are going to call me daily, they had better not swear at me and yell at me when I call to get taken off their call list.

Thanks to all for your input.  I have been getting calls from this number for some time now, and initially when I answered, there was no one there, and they never leave messages.  So I just ignore them now, but they are annoying just the same.

This number has been caling my cell everyday, sometimes several times a day. Even on the weekends and at night after 8:00pm. Its a recording asking for a guy I dont even know. I always push the option that this isnt the right number, but they keep calling. I just reported them to the do not call registry. Which I guess even if you didnt sign up for, they are not allowed to use recordings when they call you. Everyone should report them, so maybe they will stop!

Just got a call from this number. I have my fair share of debt, and am in the works to demolish it so i can provide a better life for my family.  Anyways, since I'm supposed to be getting a call from my insurance company, i answered.  Nothing. No voice, no robot, nothing. I hung up.  If the stories here are true, ("worried sicker's" story is on another site similar to this one) I'll be glad to know this scammer won't get me.

I got a call from these "people" today, and they were very aggressive from the get-go, supposedly representing some store called "16 +" (or Sixteen Plus or some other variation thereof?)  I asked 'Paul' what '16+' was, and he became really smart and loud with me, saying "Oh, YOU don't know what SIXTEEN PLUS is?  I can TELL you what SIXTEEN PLUS is!!"  At this point, I almost melted completely into tears, but explained to him that he needed to back down, and while I was -not- trying to "play" him, that I'd had an ex-husband who had taken me to the cleaners by literally opening bank accounts with my identification, while I was laying in a hospital bed, fighting for my life. (He was supposed to be letting the dogs out for me, and instead stole my ID and went on a spree with some other woman, something I've paid for for years.)

I then explained to the man on the phone that I'm a very ill individual physically, that I'm not getting any better, and went through the whole routine, standing up for myself, and getting him to agree to cut the bill in half, etc.  I'd never even heard of the store in question, and asked him to put on my record that there was a dispute as to whether the bill was even mine to begin with, but that I realized I had no proof as to whether that was the case, if it was my ex.  The man had the gall to ask if my ex's girlfriend was a "big woman", because the store caters to larger ladies such as myself.  I said she obviously must be, because she has passed for me in the bank and other stores.  He got surly and told me there was nothing I could do unless I could "just get a whole bunch of proof all on my own" that the bill wasn't my own.  The man knew my maiden name, my former married name, and my current name.  He knew my former address, and I was stupid enough to update him to my new one.  He -also- told me the last 4 digits of my social security number.

This all seemed so weird to me that I came online to check this all out, and found this website with these problems that some of you have had.  At the same time, this business is bonded, and in good standing as a website, and part of the BBB.  My husband, who I had told the man would call and make payment arrangements today (which we can't afford, really, as every dollar needs to be for healthcare, etc.) called the man, and apparently the guy and he got into a screaming match and the man hung up on him twice, with my gentle hearted husband having to call him back twice to try and resolve this thing.  Which is still not resolved.  Because of this company being part of the BBB, etc... he's worried that maybe this /is/ a legit charge, but one of my ex-husband's ID thefts.  If that is so, why can't I find the existence of such a store online, other than a tiny Greek/British store that doesn't even have its own credit?

Ugh.. sorry to rant.  I just want this out there, in case something like this happens to someone else, and this helps them to make up their mind about what to do.  I'm still not sure what we will.  Even more than losing a couple hundred (valuable, to us) dollars, I'm scared for these people to have our checking info.  And, if this is some kind of scam, after this man knows how difficult our lives have been, and are, it makes me heartsick to think that people would pursue such a thing.  Never mind the fact that my physical discomfort is at least double what it was before all of this started.

There was a different callback number given to me from what was on my caller ID, but my husband has it with him at work currently.

Good luck everyone.

They call, hang up (on my cell) before I can get to it.  I call them back and they say they are IEI Financial and I told them not to call anymore.  They said they were a collection agency.  I have nothing to be collected on!  They said it must be a wrong number and what is my number.  I would not give them my number, I said you should have it by my name if there was something, so I gave them only my name.  They said nothing popped up.  What number were they calling?  I told them I do work for attorneys and this must be a scam. She got very rude and started yelling after I told her that and she hung up.

I just got called on my cellphone too!  Now that I know it is a scam, I may "play along" when they call again and see if I can get further info from them.  The lengths people will go thru to scam people...it's ridiculous! Thanks everyone for posting on here or I would have wondered if maybe I did owe something that I wasnt aware of.

I just got a call on my cell phone from this number. I didn't answer it, but it left an automated message saying you have an important matter with our company (did not state the company name) and that the call is not a sales or soliciation call.  They wanted me to call them back.  I googled the number and came to this site and after reading this I'm not going to call them back!  My boyfriend just had money stolen from his account through Paypal and at this time I don't trust anyone!  If it was a real, legit company then the message would've had a real person, the company name & what the call was concerning.  BEWARE!!!

I just received a call by someone from 800-226-2446 and since they only left their name (Nancy West) but no business identification, I decided to google them and the number.  (Since being scammed out of roughly $1,000 of my own cash on the 8th and 9th of this month, I trust no one.)  To my surprise, all these posts are on the web warning of this caller and about how they are trying to collect monies from somewhere other than you've made in your hometown.

Well, I now know in what way these scammers will be handled.

This ?Questionable Agency? (IEI) has called countless times soliciting a small payment be made to them for a Power-Company in a different state, which is several miles from our home.  These apparent shysters relentlessly insist that ?Since they have in some way associated my social security number with their demand for payment that it has become my responsibility to ?PROVE? that my identity has been ?STOLEN? or to simply pay to them the petty amount. At one point, I nearly succumbed to their persistent harassment, but fortunately learned that same day that several other senior citizens were receiving similar inducements to make payment for strange bills of mysterious origin. I instructed IEI to ?NOT CALL AGAIN and to make note that the bill ?IS NOT MINE?. Further, to enter into their records that if they do continue calling, I will no longer spend time ?Re-informing them that the bill is not mine; but will instead  ?politely terminate? the call?.
Unscrupulous or not, they ARE a NUISANCE!

1-800-226-2446  Seems to be a scam where they call your house saying they are representing a collection call from another state.  Then they point you to www.annualcreditreport.com.   I didn't add info because if they are id theives then they would get all my info when I enter it online.  Do not trust them.

They are IEI Financial services.  They keep calling my home phone looking for someone else so, they apparently do not verify phone numbers before calling or giving credit to people.

Here is their tool free number: 800-226-2446 just call and tell them to remove your number and out you on thier Do Not Call List.  If you aren't the person they are looking for you can report them for calling if you are on the don not call list at National Do Not Call Registry.
