This is from élan financial service. It is for a collection that you owe. Mine is representing key bank bank for a debt I stuck them with. Yes it's legit! They represent different banks. I like to play games with them. Different voices, names, etc. Kind of fun, though I'm going from a 760 credit score to whatever it will become.....

I get calls from them all the time.  The company is Elan and they are the backend for a lot of credit cards through small local banks that can't afford to do all the work themselves.  they are some of the rudest people i have ever talked to in my life.

I have been receiving call from this type of place for at least 3 years. Normally I just hand up. A few years ago I waited for the operator and they asked for my cc# to lower my interest rate.  I answered the call today, same thing, I didn't have a balance that would "qualify me on any CC but told them I did. She then asked me for the CC# I wished to lower my interest rate on and wanted me to call another #. I asked what company she was with but all she said was I needed to call the number she wanted to give and and to give cc#. I told her I really won't give # to someone I don't know. Asked to be taken off the call list, they hung up. I did#69 and got phone #800-285-8585 and they lady there said it was a fraudulet call and they somehow use their 800 number for their untraceable cell phones and they have been working with Feds to stop this and if I get any additional info to call my State attorney general.  NEVER, NEVER ,NEVER. GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER TO ANYONE OVER PHONE UNLESS YOU HAVE INITIATED CALL TO PHONE NUMBER YOU HAVE FOR THEM.  This applies to your ss# too..

A woman's voice said "I am from your credit card company".  She did not mention the name of the company.  She said I could take advantage of a limited time offer for me to lower my interest rate and wanted me to press "1".

Dialing the number back got the same recorded voice saying she is from Card Member Service and she will be helping me with my account.

I do not have any credit card debt, so lowering interest is not an option that would apply to me.

I contacted this number. A really snotty woman got on on the phone and got teally indignant that I asked her to identify her company. She rattled off the address really fast when I asked her for her mailing address. Was this Yolanda?? Hmmm??? Well heifer, this is called mail fraud!

The automated system went dead if I did not enter a "16 digit card number" so I entered 16 digits and hit the # key. Nasty angry bitter "Ms Thang" answered.

She claimed the company to be either US Bank/ELAN Financial "depending who is calling them on what account. Their address is 9231 Olive St. St Louis Missouri, 63132. I have personally contacted US Bank. Their banker said they do not know these people and these people do NOT represent US bank. US Bank does NOT have any automated calling phone number that requests your credit card information.  Something is seriously reeking of fraud here.

Thing is USBANK and ELAN Financial are partner companies. This company is claiming to be called "USBANK-ELAN Financial" and is engaging in illigal business practices. Elan financial is based out of MN not MO. However, the US BANK corporate Head quarters ARE based out of MN, but has an entirely different mailing address. Are USBANK and ELAN Financial using illegal business practices? The woman who spoke to me at 1800-236-4188 number seemed awfully anxious to get off the phone and very put out to get me off the telephone. She did NOT want to talk to me. She would not even tell me the type of business they were and the automated phone wanted me to first enter my 16 digit account number BEFORE it would identify the company.

If US BANK or ELAN Financial are using these tactics or sending out these post cards with no return address on them, then shame on you. If my US BANK account information has been stolen or handed out to a company like this for ANY reason, then I will cancel my 18 year account with you and never do business with you again. I do not do business with unethical companies. So this needs to get cleared up!

GUESS WHO: you must be one of the scumbags workign for this company. Honest companies and banks do nto do business like this. instead of insulting the people you and your lowlife friends are trying to defraud, why don't you tell what the actual name of your company is? Come on, since you are claiming to be an actual debt collector who clearly is too retarded to even be able to write a complete sentence. Oh wait, you hide behind a name like GUESS WHO. Why don't you take your fraudulent game to the elderly community where you rip off old ladies of their social security money you Dbag instead of trying to pretend you are doing the world some favor by harrassing people and trying to trick them into calling your lowlife company.

I got a post card in the mail with my full name and address handwritten on the front, post marked from zip code 63101 (St Louis, MO). No return address is present. The other side says:

Date_____August 19, 2010____(handwritten)
Dear _____Paulette__________(handwritten)

It is very important that I speak with you. As I have been unable to contact you,
please call me at (314)_________________________________________  (note, no number filled in)

or Toll Free at                 1-800-236-4188
                                 ext. 156-0458 (handwritten)
                                   Please ask for"
                                      Orlando (handwritten)

Aside from the obvious run on sentences, extremely poor grammer and lack of return address indicating the company from which this was sent, I do not know anyone names Orlando. However, clearly this company (whatever they do for a living) is unethical and nefarious in how they do business. Otherwise, why would they send me this asking me to contact THEM without any indication of who they are or what they want from me?

My advice? Block this number. Do NOT call this number for ANY reason. Ethical companies do not do things like this. These are clearly NOT ethical people. I've no intention of doing business, (any type of business) with a company that plays these sorts of games and cannot even identify themselves, (much less pay someone competent enough to write a complete sentence).

Or better yet, since they want calls: call them from every pay phone you can find, set down the receiver and walk away! Once they get the 800 number bill, they might start changing how they do business!

Well, I continued to receive unwanted calls. But I pursued my investigation by contacting US Bank with emails, and I heard back from them (see below) and as of today, March 15, 2009, I have not received any further calls. Mission accomplished, I guess.

Note that I have removed my identifying inforation from the emails below.

First, here is the reply from fraudhelp@usbank.com:

To Whom It May Concern:

I am following up on the email that follows below this one.

I just (now, a little past 7 pm) received a telephone call from Tori, claiming to be calling from US Bank, 1-800-285-8585. (She refused to give me her extension.)

She told me that she was calling regarding an account with the last four digits of 7608, 154 days past due in the amount of $162.00, in the name of [my name with incorrect middle initial] of 2350 Paradise Drive, Apt 217, Reno, NV 89512.

I told her that I am not [my name with incorrect middle initial], and that the telephone number at which she had reached me is incorrect. I asked that my number be removed from that account. She hung up. (I was not entirely pleasant by then.)

I now have first googled the above number, linking to http://www.usbank.com/cgi_w/cfm/personal/sub_global/personal_cu.cfm

and then called that same number, conferring with a representative (Cindy) and summarizing for her the info above and below. She has not found information to confirm the account.

Cindy conferred with fraud and her sup, and then asked me to call collections (877-838-4347) tomorrow. I am happy to do that.

I just googled:
[my name with incorrect middle initial] "2350 Paradise" Drive, Apt 217
[my name with incorrect middle initial] "2350 Paradise" Drive
[my name with incorrect middle initial] "2350 Paradise"
No results.

"2350 Paradise" locates an apartment known as Sierra Manor.

[my name with incorrect middle initial] reno nv - got 30 hits, but none with the exact adress.

[my name with incorrect middle initial] 89512 - got over 400 hits but nothing that caught me.

[my name with incorrect middle initial] - got over 3000.

Anyway, that's way more info than you prob care to know.

My point remains: If I am receiving calls from US Bank, please advise your outbound collections callers to stop calling me. Please delete the telephone number [my telephone number] from any other than my own account records.

If this is a scam, please let me know.

Bye for now.

Subject: Phishing Scam??

To Whom It May Concern:

I am [my name]. I live at [my address]. I have lived here since 1996. I have an account with you, a credit card. My account is in good standing.

Pleaser review an entry that I posted at this website in response to a call allegedly from US Bank. Mine is the entry entitled Irritated  and dated February 18, 2009.

If you are unable to access my post, please let me know. I have kept my own copy.

Today, about 3:45 pm my time, I received yet another call allegedly from US Bank. This time the call was from a woman identifying herself as Kya, asking for [my name], asking whether I live on Paradise Drive. I told her I would call her back. She gave me the number 1-877-838-4346, ext. 60885.

After I hung up I called the US Bank telephone number listed in my Yellow Pages, 1-800-872-2657. I spoke with Chance, and again verified that my account is in good standing. I described, in brief, the information that I shared in my on-line post.

He stated that collections was closed today.

I asked him for an email address to which I might send the information, hence this email.

If I am truly receiving legitimate calls from US Bank, please advise your outbound collections callers to stop calling me. Please search the records that include my telephone number [my telephone number] (my number since 1996) and delete that phone number from any other than my own account records.

If this is a scam, please let me know what I can do to assist you in defeating it.

Bill

This evening I found this message on my voicemail: "[Firstname Lastname],this is Stacey, Senior Accounts Manager with US Bank. Please do not continue to disregard the calls. I do look forward to working with you and assisting you voluntarily. This very urgent matter has been forwarded to my office and does need your immediate response. Again, I  can be reached at 1-800-236-4188 x 60652. Continuing to disregard the calls is not going to make this matter go away. I do look forward to working with you and assisting you voluntarily."

So I called and got a recording saying, "Thank you for calling Credit Card Services" and offering three choices. I hit 2 and then entered 60652 followed by the # sign. Stacey answered. She immediately asked for the last four digits of my social security number.

Now that has, in the past, been the original four-digit passcode to access my other bank accounts. And I do not know Stacey, and I do not know the telephone number at which I have reached her, so I ask her for information to verify that she is not a phishing scam. She can't, apparently, except to say that she is not. She refuses to give me information about the person whom she was attempting to reach by calling my telephone number. She says that she is not a phishing operation and that she can not help me unless I give her the four digits of my SSN.

I tell her that she can Google me and information about me by using the telephone number from which I had called, and then can use the four digits to my disadvantage. We go back and forth like that a couple of times and, after I give her my address (not the one she was hoping for), she finally tells me who she is trying to reach: same name as me but with a different middle initial.

I tell her that I am not the person that she is seeking. I then ask her to remove my telephone number from the list. I get no assurance that that is going to happen before she says, "Have a nice night," and disconnects.

I called her number again to ask for her supervisor. This time she does not answer. Instead, I hear a recorded message stating the hours of operation and that the business is now closed. The message does not refer to Credit Card Services, but to Card Member Services.

I Google "US Bank" and find this page: http://www.usbank.com/cgi_w/cfm/about/online_security/online_fraud.cfm There I find this: The U.S. Bank Fraud Liaison Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-877-595-6256.

I called the number and had a very understanding phone call with a woman who said never to give out any information to a party who initiates a call. She said that the last four digits of my SSN might be just what a scam artist would be looking for. She said that she did not recognize the Stacey number as belonging to US Bank, but also could not know that the Stacey number was not legitimate, either. She confirmed that my account with US Bank was problem-free.

I have received a number of voicemails lately looking for someone with my name. I am irritated by that. I am irritated that I may be getting hit by scam artists. I am irritated that I am getting irritated.

Looking over the comments above, I found the other callers (Cindy, JB, \, atrain, etc.) who had listed different extensions. So I called extension 60655 and someone answered, but the call was cut off. I redialled and Leah answered. Leah was able to tell me that I had called earlier tonight and that I had said I had had the same telephone number for 19 years (incorrect) while now I was saying 12 years (almost 13, actually). She said that she was going to remove my number from the account with which it is erroneously associated. Then I asked for her supervisor, and have now been listening to a phone ring for some five minutes or longer.

I have hung up.

If these people are legit, they have one uphill battle to convince callers of that fact. I would hate to be a collection agent. What a thankless job! I only hope that they have taken my number off the account that I do not have.
