Yep they got me too. Called 800-246-1076 got my number then proceeded to sell me 100.00 gift certificate for 1.99 only catch was I had to purchase magazines. When I told them no they wouldn't let me go pay my American Express bill and transferred me to Medic Alert. I hung up on them and called back this time getting American Express. I told them what took place and the fraud department will investigate. American Express said this happens frequently but their number is 888 not 800.

The same thing just happened to me when I thought I was calling AmEx. 888-258-2741. I was told i was the 100th caller and that I had won a gift card for $100. Having worked in the credit card industry, I was suspicious from the beginning but played along. The rep got annoyed when I started asking legitimate questions like "is there a fee associated with this?" etc.. I hung up and called AmEx with the phone #.

Called this number and they said they were a third party, and associated with American Express, and would charge my card, 3.95 one time, for a 15 day trial basis on usa benefits discount shopping and 3 magazines:womens journal/good housekeeping/and 1 other. I then tried to call back and cancel any 'free trial basis' but could not get through to ANYONE! This is a true blue SCAM!!

Be Careful.
1-800-246-1076 and 1-888-345-8587 are associated.
When I tried to call American Express Customer Service, I might have dialed 1-800 instead of 1-888 (1-888-246-1076 is the American Express Customer Service).
They greeted as of they were the American Express staff. Congraulating for winning a Free trip to Bahamas for two. Then he got carried away and was selling all sorts of promotional services. Even though initially I thought it was American Express, but immediately I realized that this is a phony company.
I immediately called American Express and informed about it.
If you experience please report this to American Express immediately

They pretend to be american express telling you won a gift certificate and they will send it to you for just 3.95 charge to your credit card but they want a visa or mastercard and your info. Big time scam the american express number is close its 888 not 800 so be careful what number you dial its a scam

I also called them thinking I was calling American Express Customer Care. (I dialed "800" instead of "888). They posed as American Express's promotional office, saying that their lines were busy and they were picking up the calls. They stated that I was eligible for a $100 gift card good at Best Buy, Home Depot, Walmart... They then requested my name and address. Then they wanted a Matercard or Visa to charge the "activiation fee" of $3.95. I told them I would not give them that information, they then said I could use my debit card. I told them this did not sound legitimate and hung up.

They now do an automatic charge to your cell phone. So even if you hang up it ends up on your phone bill. As soon as you hang up, call your provider and tell them what happened. Your provider will reverse the charge and block any future charges.

Same thing almost happened to me. I got suspicious when they asked for my credit card number and they wouldn't transfer me to an account representative. I just hung up. Hopefully they didn't get enough information before I hung up. Gotta be careful with the numbers we dial!

Same to me
| Charlene 2012-02-02 15:18:47 Unknown |
Same thing happened to me. I had to cancel my American Express card because I also gave them all my information. American Express is investigating them. Be careful what you dial...same numbers except for the first. NOT 800 but 888 is the correct number. They do act like they are affiliated with American Express. 01/31/2012

I called them thinking I was calling American Express. They posed as American Express's promotional office and tricked me into signing up for some kind of Grocery Savings Club. I should have dialed 888 area code NOT 800. I gave them all of my credit card information -- dumb! They have nothing to do with American Express...
