800-272-9301 is RBC Collections. Phone the number on the back of your RBC card to be safe, and then ask for the Collections Dept. They will then tell you what the call is about.

I just received a call from 1.800.272.9301, with my first, middle and last name, asking to call RBC for a 'personal banking matter', and that it was 'not a telemarketing call'.  all automated message.

I called RBC, and sure enough, they checked my accounts, and saw no reason whatsoever why RBC would be calling me.

Definitely a SCAM.

I went to RBC directly and although this is an actual RBC number, they told me that RBC would definitely identify themselves on call display as RBC not unknown name.  They would definitely not call three times a day and let it ring for 5 minutes for three weeks.  They would never call on saturdays.

I made arrangements with the bank that if they want to get in touch with me then send me an e-mail at my office and during business hours only.

Whoever this is, they are using one of the bank's numbers and I suggest not to answer calls from this number.

Keep a log of when they call.  I will then have the bank fight these schmucks as they have more power than I do and the DNCL is just a joke not worth wasting any time on.

Thank you for letting me know.

I too received a call from 800-272-9301 claiming to be RBC.  When I attempted to call the number back, I got the message it could not be reached from my area -- very strange!

Glad I am not the only one getting these BS calls!

I just received a call from this number- they claimed to be from RBC and asked that I call them back at this number regarding a personal financial matter.  I was highly suspicious so I checked my RBC accounts online but did not call the number.  Indeed, due to an oversight on my part, my checking account was overdrawn.  In my opinion RBC's method of contact was rather problematic but the call was legitimate.

I just received this call then called RBC directly and they definit.ey do not have this number in their data base and if there is this much concern over it RBC would clear.y make the public aware of such a number or methods.  I am going to my branch to do a follow up so be very weary and always hang up and phone the RBC help centre.

I just got two automated calls from this number and was very suspicious because they asked me to enter personal information to confirm who I was.  I didn't.  But I checked and found that indeed, my account was overdrawn (bill paid; apparently with no warning to me that there were insufficient funds). So it was probably legit, but I will be calling RBC to complain about the method and fact that I was able to make an online bill payment in an account that lacked the funds.

Just called RBC regarding this number.  Seems like it is a legitimate RBC number and they wanted to let me know there was an overdraft on the account.

I called the number back and got the run around.  For some reason they new my name but wanted to verify it by me typing in some personal information.  At that juncture, I hung up and called the Risk department at the Royal Bank and talked to a live body.

If this is a RBC number then I am peeved at them for asking for information for me to key in.  The only way you know it's the bank is through a live body who asks and confirms who they are and their employee number.

If you are even more skeptical, have them call you back.

just phoned up RBC and asked them about the phone # in question and they said that RBC would never ask for any information especially if it is automated because they have all your information and they are the ones calling you. The phone # indicated (1-800-272-9301) is not an RBC # and if you were required to call them back for any reason the # you should call is on the back of your client card. This is a fraudulent phone # and should be reported to your local anti fraud agency. IE in Canada O.P.P. anti fraud.

I did some more checking up.  I found the domain name of the site linked to by previous commenter AB (http://www.rbc.com/privacysecurity/ca/alert-automated-call-faq.html) is owned by the same people as www.rbcroyalbank.com:

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/rbcroyalbank.com
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/rbc.com

So this call is looking to actually be LEGITIMATE.

There's more than one website that claims to be that of the Royal Bank of Canada.  They are different.  A legitimate alternate URL would just redirect to the main page.

So one site is likely a copy of the real page, altered to make the scam look legitimate.  If this isn't the case, and they're both legit, this is very amateurish of the Royal Bank.

This is a SCAM, RBC only calls to remind clients of appointments, or follow up calls from previous appointments, and,  no automated calls are made.  RBC does not require clients to provide information on their accounts, as they already have the information.

It's not a scam. It is RBC calling to tell you you're on overdraft. The number left by the message (1-800-272-9301) is also given by the RBC website for the same thing. See here: http://www.rbc.com/privacysecurity/ca/alert-automated-call-faq.html#c1

Received a call from this 8002729301 saying it was an urgent banking matter and they knew my name.  Automated voice asked for confirmation of phone number and the numbers only in my postal code.  Stated my bank account was overdrawn.  This sent up the red flags and I hung up.  Definitely a fraudulent misrepresentation.
