This person has harrased me for years, he even called my neighborgs and my mothre in law to tell the mto go to my house and tell me that I need to talk to them. When I talked with them once all the person said was we going to suit you, if you don't want to pay we'll see you in court.
I contacted a lawyer regarding this issue, but he said he can not do anything since the calls given to my mother in law and my noeighborg was over 2 years old and can not use it to suit them.

I gues I'm out of luck and will wait to see what happens.

Received a call (again) today from Daniel Gordon's Law Office asking for a person I have never heard of.  This is not the first time this has happened and I have called them back, never reached anyone but left a message that the "person" they are trying to reach does not live at this phone #'s address and I have had this number for the last 10 years. I also requested they remove my number from their call/data base.

These calls also come from 1-541-342-8050. They also call my cell about 20 times a week from different numbers. The only bill I owe was accumulated from Peace Health medical after being laid off from work and loosing my insurance; I applied for their Bridge program and am still awaiting approval from Peace-health on this. These people are horrifying with their calls and tactics. I do not know that this is who turned me into them if anyone, but when I do call them back I never am able to talk to a human...I have sat on hold from an automated recording for as long as 34  minutes in which I have hung up. When I do answer the calls I also only receive an automated recording telling me to hold for the next available person

In my case, I asked the manager how could he get our phone number; he said he found it from White pages. Ridiculously that my husband's  middle name and address don't match the info of the person they are looking for. Somehow, they decided to call us anyway. Apparently, this is a scam; they are trying to ask as much information as they could from incautious people.

Keep calling and asking my husband to verify his personal information (DOB, SSN, Driver license..) over the phone. They found our phone number in the White pages and assumed that he was the one they are looking for to collect 10,000 debt. We both called them and let them know my husband is not the one they looking for and requested not to call us, but they kept calling again. I think it's a kind of harrasment. They caused uneccessary frustration and worry. I told them I would report police report for possible ID thelft; the manager said "Goodluck". Very confrontational.

Thank you Michael for standing up to fight against these people. We've been receiving so many phone calls from this office. The worst thing was they assumed my husband was the one they are looking for to collect debt. First and last name match, but nothing else. They asked my husband to prove that he was not the one they are looking for, and of course asked for personal information. And of course NOT. We never ever given any personal info to anyone over the phone. I was very upset 'cause they caused unneccessary frustration and they were harrassing and bullying us. I called the office, asked for the full story. They said they will remove our phone number and will not call us, but didn't. 10 minutes later, they call my husband and ask him to verify the SSN and driver license no. I called again and spoke with a staff, and they let me talked to the manager. Time consuming and very frustrating to solve these silly phone calls. Will anyone help citizens to remove these kind of business out of the society?

This automated machine calls often, saying to return their call, and that they are a collection agency. They never say who they're calling for, and I have yet to reach anyone at their telephone number. I figure they'd have my or my house mate's name if either of us owed them money.

Sounds like the same thing is happening to me.  I have, numerous times asked for an accounting of the debt.  A person by the name of Sarah said she will give that to me when we go to court.  I asked her why I should pay a debt I have no idea how it more than double.  Arain she said she would give me that document in court.  Yesterday I faxed her a letter with that request.  We'll see what happens.

According to a phone call I had with them today, the Law of Dan Gordon claims to represent a company operating under several names including Sherman Affiliates, The Sherman Companies, NVLV, and others.  NVLV acquires data about old debt (debts that have been "charged off" by companies, discharged through bankrupcty and -- according to consumer complaints I have read on the Web -- debts that have been paid).

NVLV (aka The Sherman Companies, Sherman Affiliates, et. al.) uses aggressive tactics to bully people into paying them for these debts.  They have tacked on extra "fees" and "penalties".

I have had several discussions with NVLV by telephone over the past two years.  Every time I asked them to send me copies of the debt documentation they said they would but I never received anything.  They never acknowledged having sent anything in subsequent phone calls.

After sending them a cease-and-desist notice (per Federal Consumer Fair Debt Collection law), I discovered they "transferred" the debt to another operating company.  I sent another cease-and-desist notice.

Now the Law Office of Dan Gordon in Eugene, OR has called me.  When I returned their call they failed to disclose the name of their client within 30 seconds (a requirement under Oregon's state fair debt collection law).  When the nameless person I spoke to eventually revealed that they were representing NVLV, I told him the debt was fraudulent as NVLV had failed on more than one occasion to provide me with originating documentation for the debt.

He assured me they would request the documentation from the client and include it with the lawsuit they will file against me.  I pointed out they don't have to file a lawsuit in order to substantiate a debt.  He repeated that they will include the documentation when they file the lawsuit.

I subsequently filed complaints with the Oregon Attorney General's office and the Federal Trade Commission.  It's important that people report these guys to the authorities.  You CAN sue them for violating your rights (I have contacted a local attorney to seek representation) AND the state or Federal governemnt may take action against them.

If these people are collecting on valid debt you cannot make the debt go away but they MUST prove that they are collecting legitimate debt before you pay them one dime.

The number is from the Law Office of Dan Gordon in Oregon. They have an automated calling system and represent "bottom feeder" collection agencies that buy old debt for pennies on the dollar. I've heard that some law firms will send out thousands of judgments on these accounts knowing that a few will stick.
