Just got a call from this number, didint answered, didnt left a message. But i called the number on the back of my card, spoke to a person and They told me there was no issue with my cards or accounts at all. I had used it a couple of minutes before the call and yet no issue. So i dont know, just call you rbank instead of this number just to be sure you dont fall for an scam.Thye did asked what number called me i gave it to them and they verified it was indeed an BoA number but it wasnt them, they said it might a spoofed number triying to pass as a BoA call.Like i said in my case i called directly to BoA and there was no reason for such call at all.So in my case scam i guess?

Thank you for this post! You are so correct. BoA put a hold on my card because of "unusual" activity. I think maybe it was because I hadn't used my card in a while. Bottom line is, log onto your account or call them and you can fix it immediately.

I just got a call from that number (1-800-325-6217) and I did not pick it up since I did not recognize it. So, I looked it up on the internet and I found this website. After I read a few messages, I called BofA by using the number on the back of my card and aked them whether the aforementioned number actually belongs to them, and they indeed confirmed it. So I took care of my business with them and everything went back to normal.

In short, if you get a call from this number, call them right away, by using the number in the back of your card, since it may prevent you from being victim of fraud.

JUst wanted to confirm your statement "Pay attention to this ".  .I did not answer because I did not recognize the number   but checked and learned it was possibly Bank of America Fraud Dept. I called them and someone tried to key in my numbers and get money. They sent an alert to my account and an email and tried to call. Kudos to Bank of America for their security/fraud alert system!! If you suspect the number, then use the number on the back of your card, that will lead to a person who can verify the reason for the call and you will be confident it was the B of A  Call Center. But please follow up, I am glad I did.

I did not answer the phone but after checking email, and Googled the number, then checked my account, Bank of America verified that some one tried to enter in my numbers for my ATM card. No idea how they got it, but it is a legitimate number and I suggest you call Bank of America fraud number on the back of your card. Then you can be sure it was them. Certainly glad I did!

NUMBER IS LEGITIMATE.   I received this call on my answering machine:  "If you are [my name] or [spouse's name] press 1, if not, press 2."  That seemed strange to me because most scam callers don't ask for me by name.  I looked up the number, and found it on this site where the comments were 50/50 scam or no scam.  So I called Bank of America directly by the number on the back of my card.  They answered "Card Services" - which is what a scammer has been using to call me lately.  However, after obtaining some information (not my ENTIRE card number but only the last 4 digits), which was OK because I was calling BofA, they listed 6+ fraudulent charges.

I AGREE WITH THE ADVICE GIVEN HERE:
1) Always call the number on the back of your credit card and verify for yourself if it is BofA calling.
2) Don't wait, because if it IS legitimate, you must confirm the charges are fraudulent.
3) I have a card with a different bank and there were some fraudulent charges - when the bank calls you, it NEVER sounds legitimate, no matter what company is calling.
4) When in doubt, CONTACT THE BANK YOURSELF.

This was a legit call from B of A letting me know that someone had fradulently used my credit card.  I did not call the number above back though, instead I called  1.800.427.2449 (fraud department line from their website) and right away they verified with me that my card had been used by someone else with a merchant in Sheridan, Montana (I'm in California).  B of A shut my card down and they will be sending me a new one.

Again, if I had simply ignored the call from the original number above, I wouldn't have known, or it would have at least taken me much longer to find out that my identify was stolen via my card.  If in doubt, just log into your account online immediately a page will show up asking you if you made a suspected charge.

It actually is Bank of America fraud department. I went online to check account and it was compromised. It had a fraud alert on it. I still wouldn't give a person calling my info, but I did call my local bank have them connect me to B of A fraud department. So, the call is legit.

I got a call from this number about 20 minutes after I made an online purchase.  I didn't answer it, but did call the number on the back of my Visa card to see if Bank of America had called me.  I'm glad I did.  19 minutes after my online purchase from a big U.S. chain electronics store, someone used my card number to charge $1781.48 at Balance Motor Sports in Great Britian.  The transaction was declined by Bank of America as it looked suspicious.  So I'm glad I called my Visa bank, and they cancelled that account number.

I received a call from this #, too.  I immediately looked up the # and ended up here.  I then checked up on my account online and there in fact was a hold on my card.  I called the 800 # on the back of my card and the operator told me that someone tried to charge some things in Canada.  So I can assure you that this is not a scam.  But I would call the # on the back of your card just in case.

I received a call on my cell phone from this number and did not answer.  I looked the number up online and ended up on this page.  I read the mixed reviews of scam vs. fraud alert.  I then moved on to check my email.  I had two emails from BOA.  One in my husbands name and one in my name stating our account was on hold until we verified account activity.  I then logged on to my account, not using any links, but using a bookmarked page I always use to log in and saw that there was indeed a hold on my account and someone had tried to purchase something from Amazon.  Now, we shop at Amazon a lot, but not with this card.  We are trying to pay this card off, so we have not spent anything in a year on this card. So this, for me was a legitimate call, trying to confirm account activity on our card.  My motto always is, though use caution when giving information over the phone, or clicking through links in emails.  We don't even use this card online, so not sure how they are getting this particular card number.

This is real. I purchased a phone on the verizon website with my credit card. And immediately after I paid by card this number called me. They just think it's a suspicious purchase and they put your card on hold. Pay attention to this!

sorry hit submit too soon. As I was saying 1st call was less than an hour after using my card to make an unusually large purchase. There was no ID, just "Toll free number" so I didn't answer. Came to this site, as is my habit, to check it out. reply's were fifty/fifty, whether number was legit or not. Received another call hour or so later, so I called the number on the back of my card, finally got a live person on the phone and he had me give him the number that called. He said it WAS NOT a legit number and must be a scam. Received another call hour or so later from same number, this time they left a message saying who they were, gave my name and last digits of card number and stated there may have been some unauthorized purchases.
Called number on back of the card again, and automated answer was totally different, asking security questions etc. and explained there may be a problem, was then given last purchases and asked if they were legit (they were), requested, and got a rep on the phone to make sure all was good and it was. Always be careful....you never know...and as others have said, only call number on back of your card !

They called me as well...I didn't answer the call and they did not leave a message. I did call the number on the back of my credit card and they verified it was a legitimate call from their fraud dept. and transferred me over. They fraud dept had seen some unusual charges on our card and were verifying these charges were ours.  I like most of you get many illegal telemarketing calls and am very wary of these type of calls.....but this number is legitimate.

It is boa, I called the number on the back of my card, I told them about that number and they confirm it is linked to the bank they wanted to make sure that the 3 transactions made that day were from me. I did shop online, I am glad they keep an eye on my credit card :).   No reason to worry instead of giving info to that number its always safe just to call the number on your card.

Also got this call about unusual activity on my BOA MC.  Robo recording.  Called the number on my card and there was a charge they did not recognize, so told them it was correct.  If you get a call like this do not call them back. Instead call the number on your card or statement. VERY SIMPLE!! With all the scams these days you cannot trust anyone, sad to say.

I got called and it was BOA. I know because I called BOA direct to confirm.  There were two out of state charges they flagged, and indeed my card info had been stolen.  I'm glad I'm a BOA customer - they have my back!

I received a call from this number(I did not answer).  After reading the posts here, I contacted Bank of America, directly.  They said the call was a response to my recent on-line computer purchase.  They just wanted to verify that I was the one who ordered the computer.

didn't answer because all it said was toll free call - no message, so we called the number on the back of our card once i googled the 800 number and found lots of folks who said it was a scam and just as many who said it wasn't - in our case we did have two fraudulent charges hit this morning - the lady said the 800 number is indeed theirs - may be but something is fishy with it - be safe and call the number on the back of your card

Note:  The following scenario is a result of a purchase I was trying to make internationally via the internet.  And from a company I had done business with in the past.  Therefore I knew the BofA fraud department was just being cautious (and that the number calling me was from them, BofA).  But I had to deal with them because they wouldn't let the transaction go through (and it was a very important transaction).

Got a call and called the number back and it said fraud protection department for BofA.  A man with Indian accent, and lots of background office noise, asks me questions about my account to validate.
Where is my BofA statement mailed to?
How long have I lived at my current address?  What is my current address?
How long did I live at my previous address?  What was my previous address?
Then he put me on hold for a minute and a half and then came back and my account couldn't be verified, and that my account was going to be under review, and that he couldn't talk to me anymore about it.

I immediately called the number back.  It sounded like the same guy that answered, but he must have transferred me, because then I got to speak to an American sounding woman, who then asked me more questions.
What is my drivers license #?
What was the balance on my card?
What was the amount of the charge recently made to the card?

Thankfully I was able to satisfy the American woman, because then my transaction went through.  I suppose it helped that I told her I had previous transactions with the international company in the past few months.  But she didn't ask for that, I just offered it.  I also threatened to leave BofA if they didn't stop harassing me on my purchases (it happens about once or twice a year on average, and ALWAYS when I need my card the most - buying medication online and buying an RV slip for the night while on vacation, the latter case I could not convince the fraud department, so the card was cancelled, and I had to find a bank I could get cash out of, and then arrange for a new card to be sent to the RV resort main office.... completely overkill!!).  I suppose it helps to remind them that you've been with them for 10 yrs, and that whatever they're doing is just screwing up your life in a royal way!!  They usually figure something out.
