The company making these calls is DirecTel, a service firm making calls for fund-raising. They contract out to various not-for-profit organizations and solicit funds by phone. They are exempt from the USA Federal Do-Not-Call-List, but they MUST remove your number from their list if you request them to do so. It is hard to tell exactly where the call originated, because they have call centers everywhere.

If they continue to make calls 5-days after requesting to be removed, refer to this wording from the Illinois Attorney General:

"Is there something I can do to cut down on telemarketing calls from companies and organizations that are still allowed to call me even after I put my number on the Do Not Call Registry?

Yes, there is something you can do, but it will take some effort on your part. When these companies and organizations call you, you can ask to be put on their company-specific Do Not Call lists. In other words, you can instruct each specific company, one-by-one, to put you on the individual Do Not Call list maintained by that specific company. Once you have told a specific company that you do not want to receive any more calls, that company is prohibited from calling you again - unless you later change your mind or do business with the company.

Calls com frequently from this number 800-331-4842 - no one speaks - phone is silent.  Annoying! We do not wish to receive any more calls from this number.

I am constantly getting calls from this number, sometimes only 10 minutes apart. This has been going on for many weeks, and I am truly sick and tired of running to the phone to see that number again on my caller ID!

Calls once or twice a day.  We have auto-attendant so they don't get to a 'real person'.  They never leave a message, but tie up our business line for a few minutes at a time.  Would like to get them to stop calling.

This 800 number keeps calling me and they don't speak even though I say hello many times, then they hang up.

I called the number back to see who this is and the recording I get is that this number cannot be called from my calling area.

Getting calls from this toll free # and they always hang up.

It's an 800 number and a free call, so why not just call the number and see who answers?

800-331-4842 - every time they call, they hang up when I answer.  Even when I answer on the first ring!

Calls at least 4-5 times per day and hangs up when answering machine picks-up.  If I answer, no one is there.arrrrggggg

Same as above. I don't answer the phone and they leave no message. I tried to call the number but I get a busy signal. They've been calling every day for about a week.
