The number is a valid number. However, the newer number is 1-800-6690-8465. It can easily validated by always calling the customer sevice numbet on the back of the sears credit card. To always assume that because you think it's a fraudulent call or a phishing attempt would be unwise and ignorant. The best way to always make sure your credit cards are protected is to respond to alerts promptly by making sure you're calling the proper people by dialling back valid phone numbers.

I got a call from Sears Credit Fraud Department to verify recent activity in my account and asked me to back back at 1-800-669-8465. Since My Sears credit card was inactive for several years, I was hesitant to call back.
I called the customer service in the back of the card instead. They verified that my credit card was still inactive, but that I had another account created a few days ago and there was an activity. They transferred me to the fraud department. That was late at night and they gave me this number to call in the early morning: 800-335-1517. In the morning I called this number and learned there were 2 accounts created recently. I asked them to close both accounts. They said they will close the 2 accounts and they need to investigate the charges.

If you don't want to call 800-335-1517 directly, call the number in the back of your card. From your SS# they can find out if you have other accounts. Don't just assume that if you don't have a Sears credit card, that you don't need to worry. You need to find out if someone else created an account using your information, put an alert in your credit report and follow up to close those fraudulent accounts.

Received a phone mail from "Ears Credit Card" 1-800 669-8465.  She didn't say "Sears" on this message, she said "Ears", oddly enough.  Sounded like Sears without the S.  Then when I called, the first thing they did was ask you to key in your Sears credit card account number.  Then, when you don't enter one, eventually the same woman comes on the line and asks immediately for your social security number. I told her sure, why don't I just give you my bank account pin number and my mother's maiden name too!  Scam-tastic.  She knew that I had unmasked her, so she directed me to the Sears main number.  Bi***, you are Sears. Why would you give me a main number for your own company?  Idiot.  Scam.

This is the Sears Fraud Department (as confirmed--after talking with them--by calling Citi Card Services, getting transferred to Citi Sears Cards and having them read the interactions and confirm the passcode established). Very polite, efficient people. Someone tried to open a Sears Credit Card using my information and add another name to the fraudulent account also. No charges were made.

Like others I took the long way around and called the phone number on the back of my credit card and had them transfer to Fraud Protection.  Apparently, some company that had my credit card number on file got hacked and they wanted to cancel my current card and are going to send me a new one.  My particular card was not affected with any unauthorized charges.

Very professional.  But I was hesitant to just call the number on my answering machine and offer up personal information.

Received a call from this number today.  Did not recognize number, so did not pick up.  A voicemail message was left from "Sears Fraud Early Warning Department" wanting to verify "recent activity" on my Sears MasterCard.  Said to call back on 800.335-1517 with my account number.  One problem:  I HAVE NO SEARS MASTERCARD ACCOUNT.  Some people have said this is a legit CitiBank fraud line.  WRONG.  I also have NO CITIBANK CARDS OR ACCOUNTS.  (CitiBank itself defrauded me years ago on a mortgage loan, and I would NEVER deal with them.  They are dishonest crooks.)

Actually, I reached this page by searching Sears Credit Card Compromised. I did not get a call, however I did get a letter in the mail asking me to call them at 1.800.917.7700 since they could not reach me by phone. Apparently it is customary to write to the "old" address when the new address, telephone number, et. al. are changed as well as having several suspicious charges made on the account. They were wonderfully professional. They did everything I was trained to do in the computer industry to assure the identity and security of the customer. Make sure you are comfortable with the person you are speaking to and the information you are exchanging. They were very courteous and patience with my concerns about the validity of the call. After I was sure, they assisted me with the steps of what I could do next ie. file a police report, contact the FTC and credit agencies. I went out and changed all my passwords. Please take these calls seriously for your own welfare.

this is a real number. WHoever is saying it isnt is probably part of the ring of crooks. My Sears Citibank card was also compromised. For a big dollar amount. They are working with me.
So do not listen to anyone who says it isnt. They are stopping victims from believing they are really the early fraud depatment. Call the Sears number and they will transfer you to this number. Take action. Thieves are steps ahead of the game.

So I got the same call as everyone else from this number and called them back.  I gave them my acct info then they asked me to confirm a purchase I made online today.  I confirmed,  that was it.  Then I thought hey what if this was a scam so I looked up the number online and found this page.  Most post said it was ligit but there were some nay sayers so I thought I should call sears and check for myself.

It was ligit.  Sears gave me the same number for their fraud division and they were able to look up that the call was placed today at 1:00 pm.

It is always best to check for yourself but I found this number to be ligit.

We had a message from this number on our answering machine yesterday.  Very difficult to understand but like other posters have said, it was Sears calling to discuss a large purchase and to call 1-800-335-1517 between the hours of 7 AM and 11 PM and to have the account number ready when returning the call.  No need to return the call as it was clearly a phishing scam -- we've never had a Sears credit card and rarely, if ever, shop there.

Received a call from 1-800-917-7700 on my home phone (area code 972 - Texas) asking for Mrs. Johnson. I informed the female caller that she had a wrong number. She apologized and hung up. Not 2 minutes later I received a call from 1-800-917-7700 on my cell phone (area code 404 - Georgia) asking for Mrs. Johnson. I informed the same lady caller that she once again had a wrong number and told her she had just called me twice on two different phone numbers in two different area codes asking for the same person. She once again apologized profusely and hung up. What gives here? I am just a bit concerned since I have a Sears (Citi) Charge Card. No information was asked for and none was given. Need I be worried?

I also received a message from 1-800-335-1517. Instead of calling it back I called the number on the back of my Master Card. It was legit. They said one of the retailers where I used my card had been compromised and asked me to cancel my card and they would issue a new one in 7 to 10 days.

I received a call from this number telling me call and have my account number ready and to reference number 1517. I called the customer service number on the back of my card and talked to them and yes this is legit. There has been a compromise on 5000 credit cards and they are checking to make sure there have been no unauthorized usage of the card, then they are cancelling the credit card and issuing me another one because of this. I didnt feel comfortable in calling the number they left either, but if you call customer service they will help you.

Received a phone call from 301-790-4200, didn't answer. They left a message saying they were calling from Sears Early Fraud department, with a confirmaiton number asking me to call back 1800-335-1517. I did right away, they didn't ask any personal information beyond the confirmaiton number and my name. They wanted to verify that I had received my new card (mine had just expired) and that I had made changes to my address (yes I had, we just moved and I changed it online). Everything was legit, nothing was questionable.

I did not call 800 335-1517 , use the number on the back of your card.  Do follow up, acct. numbers have been compromised, they want to close your acct. and issue new cards/account number.  Always verify phone numbers, I called the number on the back of my card, press 0 when you get sick of listing to all of the recordings!

This is a legitimate call from Citi/Sears MasterCard.  My caller ID said 301-790-4200 and the message I received asked me to call back 800-335-1517.  To be safe, I called the number on my credit card and let them transfer me to ensure it was legitimate.

That being said, I am sick of Sears MasterCard.  They are constantly halting use of my card, claiming it's fraud, when it's just me spending money.  I'm going to quit using the card.

I recieved a message on my cell phone, a female voice told me she was with Sear Fraud Department calling about some recent activity on my Sears account. To call this number between 7 AM and 11 PM and to have my account number available. I found this very strange, called the number on my cell phone and the recording for "this number has been disconnected" came on. Call came in on a Friday night at 8:46PM.

I got call saying it was Sears Account fraud, I did not give my account number and he asked for a password.  I made up a number and knew he was a fraud when he asked me what that number meant to me. He said he was closing my account and sending me an affidavit of fraud.  I then called Citibank and the person could not verify that there was any fraud on my account. Do not call this number back

This is a legitimate number.  If you call the phone number on the back of your Sears card you get Customer Service.  They will then verify the phone number given & will transfer you to Sears Fraud Early Warning.

Received a message on my answering machine.  The woman said she was calling from Sears Fraud Early Warning Department.  Said that an attempt had been made to place a large charge on the Sears Master Card of my husband.  Please call 1-800-335-1517 between the hours of 7 AM and 11 PM and to have the account number ready when returning the call.  I do not have a Sears Master Card, and my husband has been deceased for nearly 20 years.  I called the 800 number, and a man, who would not give his name, asked for my husband's social security number(which I did not give).
