This is the third time a non american caller from Discover has wasted my time trying to get me to test the CC machine. Hire americans who actually speak English!! But quit calling we have never seen a discover card in 25 years.

Indian man called asking for my boss specifically. Boss was busy - caller asked me to verify the biz name and address. He read it off and I said "That's our address". He said "yes or no". He want me to say yes or no. I just kept asking if I could have my boss call him back everytime he asked me to verify something.

Please be aware - scammers can "spoof" phone numbers!

yes, the number on the caller ID display is for Discover cad, but after reciving a call from 'them' just a few minutes today wanting to verify my information I asked and got the caller's name. I hung up and called Discover Merchant Services back to verify.

I was told very specifically that they do NOT hire out to India at this time, that they do NOT run terminal verifications and that they are currently NOT EVEN soliciting for new merchants to take their cards.  Needless to say, the name the caller from India gave me could not be found in the employee directory either.

It's a scam, according to Discover Network it is NOT them making the call or having authorized the call to be made by someone else.

Just got the same call. Having setup a merchant account before, I remember receiving this confirmation call from Discover. Never been asked to run a test. This time, the conversation lasted no more than 30 seconds.

Same sales pitch; we don't take Discover at our business.  They offered a callback # of 888-347-1139 if we had any questions

Since opening our doors June 2, 2008 - we have received tons of calls from this number - and we've always said that we ARE NOT interested in running their Discover run test.  Upon this morning's call, I strongly requested 'AGAIN' to be taken off their calling list - the operator kept talking over me - so I told her to please listen and stop talking but to no avail.  I finally told her NO and hung up.  She called immedicately back and kept at it.  I used an outraged tone of voice and told her that we have had tons of calls and are fed-up with receiving Discover test run requests.  She kept talking!!  I hung up!  AND SHE CALLED AGAIN!!!! Thank goodness for caller ID - needless to say, I did not pick up!  Geesh!

Actually a legit call from Discover. Call # back and ask if you want.

They give you a card number to run to make sure CC terminal is processing Discover cards correctly. In our case, we don't process many Discover cards and they simply verify it is accepting them correctly.

We also are receiving requests from 1-800-347-2000. We do not take Discover, never have, never will. I believe this is a fraud or scam. We have never had anyone call us with a request to run a number through our system before. Credit Card companies do not need you to do this. I caution everyone out there to report this to your state attorney general office

We got the same thing, a woman whom we could not understand and we had to ask her to repeat what she was saying. Her command of the English language was very poor. We finally hung up when we understood she was asking us to run our credit card machine, which we don't have and never have had.

Been getting the same calls. Finally answered -- sounded like a scam to me. Plus she couldn't speak English worth a lick.  Finally hung up!  Will not answer that again.

I've recently started a business, had it incorporated and am running an online service that accepts all four major credit cards.  So, when I got this call on my office line, I wasn't sure if this was related to my online merchant account, but it seemed odd that they wanted to test it.  I don't think this is a scam because the number is listed on Discover's actual web site, but they can't speak English and are difficult to understand.  I see no reason to run a "test" and I told them that I use an online merchant, not a physical credit card scanning machine.  This is definitely spam related however, and I'm certain it's a phone spam attempt to get you to sign up with them when you start a new business and it's listed with your number.  This alone makes me think I'll just tell my merchant provider (authorize.net/e-online.biz) to drop Discover and that I will not accept them.  I'll decide that based upon the first month or two of business anyway, as the most important two are Visa and MasterCard.  I decided to take Amex and Discover just in case, but this seriously makes me wonder if I should drop Discover before seeing how many people even use them.  In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll drop them, as any CC service that practices these tactics isn't a company I want to do business with.  I doubt Discover will be around or used much if it is, in the next 10 years.

and they call and call and ......
Discover Network / Discover Card Merchant services.
I am sick and tired of their calls and the fact that they outsource their call-stalking (because that's what it is they do!) to India.
They export our information to other countries for use and misuse and nothing is regulated under US federal laws there!

Yes, it is discover.  They call our business 2 to 3 times per week wanting to run a test on our credit card machine - we don't even have a credit card machine.  Idiots!

I received a call from someone of Indian descent this afternoon asking to test my Discover system. I was suspicious from the get go as we're pretty tight with our CC processor and they are US based without outsourcing. I asked who he was with. He told me Discover Network and Merchant Services. I asked if he meant Merchant Services in Milwaukee, WI. He told me yes. We switched from Merchant Services over a year ago as they're fees became ridiculous. I informed Bogwhan or whatever his name was of this decision. He started to realize that he wasn't going to get anywhere with me and completed his call.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION THAT YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO HAVE!!!

This is actually Discover Network!  If you comply with their request you are baisically authorizing them to sign you up for their merchant services.  This really is  a shady way for them to get new business.  creeps.

Note:  I asked them for a name and a call back #:  Leamsi @ 888-347-1139
Just in case you all would like to call and harass them for their personal information.  ::wink::

Oh, and I should add:

We (used to) take Discover Cards all the time.
So therefore, it makes no sense that they would need to "test" our terminal to make sure we can accept their cards.

You would think an outfit like Discover would be smart enough to just look at our transaction register, instead of pestering the s*** out of their customers....!!!!    UNBELIEVABLE!!

It's Discover card (actually, someone hired by Discover Card).
They want you to run a test on your terminal to make sure you can accept Discover cards.

They've called probably 50 times in 4 months.  Each time, I tell them we don't punch in numbers from strangers (or even Discover, for that matter).  I asked them to mail us whatever they needed to.  Nothing arrives.  Eventually got them to take our # off their list, but as of yesterday, it is somehow back on.  (3 calls so far - tried to pickup the last one, but they just hung up - obviously someone was on the other end.)

I warned Discover Card last time that if this b***s*** continued, we would no longer accept their credit cards.  Well guess what Discover Card, my very next call is to our processor to get your product REMOVED.

WE WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT DISCOVER CARDS AT OUR BUSINESS.
Have a nice day.  A***oles.

Note:  Discover Cards are more expensive to process anyway!  I'm not about to "pay" for this kind of abuse.
