This number called claiming to be our electricity account, saying that if we didn't pay almost $1,500 they would disconnect our electricity. Checked with our provider, and they verified that our account was up to date and that no one had contacted us.

We were notified that scammers have been calling utility customers in Colorado Springs and advising them that if they don't make an immediate payment through a pre-paid debit card, their services will be disconnected.  The scammers were asking Customers to purchase a pre-paid debit card and provide the number back to them.  They were calling from (800) 369-0205.  This is a very common utilities scam and no utility company would ever demand this type of payment.  In this situation, it also appears that they are targeting Spanish speaking customers.  When in doubt about a call or demand, hang up and call the Customer Service Center for your particular Utility Company and confirm the legitimacy of the call before ever purchasing/providing a pre-paid debit card #."

It is a scam.  No utility company will ever ask you to pay with gift cards.  ALWAYS verify by calling the main phone number for the utility before giving money to anyone.

Possible utility scam - called trying to get money from an address.  Claimed to be from utility company.
Wouldn't give employee id # - I called utility and they double checked all their systems - no cutoff.
We use autopay and have up to date account.  Made sure there was no confusion on the address.
