ID states TOLL FREE CALLER. Call went to voice mail, and I heard a computer voice say they were calling to offer me low long distance rates. It then said to please hold for the next available agent, and then immediately said that all agents were busy assisting other customers and if I wanted to continue holding, I could press 1 to do so, or I could press 2 to be removed from their call list. I hurriedly picked up and pressed 2. Then I was hung up on. Wonder if they will honor the request to be left alone?

When I answer there are several seconds of silence and then hangs up. This number has called us at the same time for the past three (business) days. I usually answer with our business name. I think the next time this number comes up, I'll just say "hello" to see if I get a response.

I listed it as a prank call because "telescammer" is not a choice. This is the AT&T long-distance scam, like several above me have noted. The fact that the company I work for does not use AT&T seemed to throw this particular scammer off his script, and after stammering for a few seconds, he hung up.

Prank Call
I have a couple of ways to deal with these parasites. First, I let the phone ring three full times before I pick up. I pick up and don't say anything for 2-3 seconds. If it is a computer autodialer, 80-90% of the time the computer will hang up thinking it has gotten a voice mail or answering machine. After 2-3 seconds, I say our company name, but don't give out my name. That way they don't automatically have a name if they call back and get someone else. If I still get a person and they insist, I tell them my name is "Richard Smith"(it's not). It is none of their business what my real name is, they are telescammers who are breaking the law. If they persist in calling over and over again, I tell them that my boss is available, and then I use a sports air horn right next to the phone. What are they going to do, sue me? "Your Honor, I was illegally telescamming and they deafened me!" Good luck with THAT argument. The judge might give me a medal. Reporting these "people"(I use that term loosely) to the Do Not Call Registry is futile, they are usually spoofing their phone number anyway. If you have the time, have some fun with them. See how long they will stay on hold or still be on the line if you put the phone down. Take your cordless into the bathroom and have an extended "deposit" at the Porcelain Bank, complete with very loud fake sound effects. Tell them you ARE the boss and listen to their sales pitch, never saying yes to anything, but always saying that you will look at your numbers and see what you can do. Some scammers will record any affirmative answer you give and then splice it into a call and bill you for whatever they are selling, using that as evidence of an order. Waste as much of their time as you can, because that keeps them from scamming other people, and it can be a really fun stress reliever! Anything that we can do to make this less profitable for these ticks on the butt of humanity is a plus. Feel free to pass this on or add to it with your fun ways of taking back your phone lines. If these idiots would get a real job, the world would be a better place for all of us.

When they call me, I answer (my business phone) and they say nothing and hang up... I called them back, heard a recording that said  "Business Networks Long Distance" and was on hold for 5 minutes before the recording said "please leave a message after the tone."

I was disconnected before I could verify ANY info regarding an acct number or which company the caller is verified with. Upon a call back after looking up the info via web all I could get was that hours of operation which was 30 minutes PAST due of the hours of operation. NO company, website info or etc was listed! As a customer Care Rep I do verify ANY information their automated service may or may not verify!

I also received a phone call from this company.  He said he was acting on behalf of Frontier (which is my phone company) in order to help customers lower their long distance rates.  I listened to what he had to say and the savings seemed almost too good for a phone company to be making.  When he asked if he could change my plan, I asked him directly if he worked for Frontier.  He said no, he was working for a company whose name I cannot recall but had the word "business" in the middle.  Anyway, that sent off the alarm bells and I told him I did not want to make any changes.  Just as a caution, I called Frontier to let them know about the call and that I did not want any changes made to my plan and to notify me if another company tried to take over the LD portion of my bill.

A very underhanded way of misleading people to think they are working for your phone company, but he did fess up when I directly posed the question.

I am a senior citizen and my phone is listed on the National Do Not Call Registry.  I rarely receive any phone solicitations.  "Payton" called, said he was calling from my phone company, had reviewed my monthly charges and could save me some money. I fell for it.  After going through the verification process I called my local phone company and discovered that I had been slammed.  I am embarrassed that I allowed myself to be victimized and hope this post will prevent others from being slammed by Business Network Long Distance (BNLD).  More information about this company, including their attempt to slam a church, can be found at http://www.topix.com/forum/city/carthage-nc/T3308J756SATAGMNL
The Denver Better Business Bureau has many complaints against this firm and gives it a C- rating.
According to a public filing with the Illinois Commerce Commission the officer/owner of Business Network Long Distance, Inc is Brian H. Curtiss, 29810 Troutdale Scenic Drive, Evergreen, Colorado 80439.  Phone 303-679-0522.
Shame on you Mr. Curtiss.  Attempting to slam a senior citizen and a church is despicable conduct.  Were you sleeping through the ethics classes when you studied for your MBA?

Correction on 427-9739  Did some more research.  The Company is BNLD not BLMB
They call wanting you to ok them to switch your LD billing thru them and that they are providing a service for all phone companies.  Claims FCC rules require Phone companies to notify it's customers of a rate reduction, in my case a base rate of $16 down to $6.00.  The way it works is they sell LD to your present carrier a a reduced rate and your carrier will still bill you.  But according to the web site they tack on a $6.00 monthly service charge to your phone bill for this service.  I think they are misleading when they say there are complying with YOUR phone company request,  in that they are calling on there behalf and if you don't let them sign you up you will not be able to take advantage of the lower rates.  They claim that they are just informing us per FCC rules but then when they want to record your conversation and the question is do you want to change service I hung up after telling them NO NO NO.
