recieved this fax today. I am trying to see who this service is owned by, and what exactly, it is. I think it is funny that they are not giving any information about themselves. I think it is fishy.

I beg to differ, but our agency has been using this service for quite some time and we have ceased to get most junk faxes and I have never witnessed a repeat of a junk fax that I have forwarded to them.

i used to work for this company, and you all need to calm down.  one other poster had it right - they collect all the unwanted faxes you send and use them to generate leads for their business.  that's it, end of story.  kinda slimy, but at least they're not doing anything with your info.

I also have tried this with several of the faxes I received at my fax number at my business.  After several months of doing so, I have noticed a dramatic drop in the number of faxes i have received.  In fact, I used to receive about 30 per day, and now I may get 3 or 4.  I don't know if it is the fax police that has done this, but it worked.

Everyone,

my personal opinion is that this is a Law Firm trying to collect fax broadcast pages from companies violating the TCPA ACT.  It is illegal to send a fax to a company without an EBR (existing business relationship).
So this i believe is a law firm trying to collect as many faxes as they can from anyone, then they will compile faxes from the same company so they can file a Class Action Lawsuite against the companie(s) sending the faxes.  An attorney that specializes in filing lawsuites using the TCPA Act as a motive to create Class action suites know they can, if brought to court, Federal, State, Local etc. can collect upto $1,500.00 per page.  So what i think this "Fax Police" ad is - is a method for a law firm to generate faxes to generate lawsuites.  Now the obvious problem is that they are being anonymous to the people sending in the junk faxes.  They should be collecting your junk faxes in order to represent you.  What they are possibly doing is sending a "demand for payment" letter and collecting monies that legally should be given to the company who submitted the junk fax; this would be companies or individuals forwarding on the junk faxes.
For example, ABC company recieved 10 faxes over the course of a year from one solicitor, the "Fax Police" would then send a threatening letter to the sender to pay $15,000.00 for damages referencing the rules of the TCPA Act.
The problem is that they may not be sharing any monies they collect from the initial letter to avoid further legal action.  So a junk fax sender may receive the demand for payment letter, pay the amount requested or contact the law firm to settle.  If my what my beliefs are about this Fax Police are true then the law firms sending out this fax are in violation of the TCPA Act and are now at risk of being sued for what they are doing by sending companies these faxes, hence why it is almost impossible to track down who sent you the Fax Police letter.  Scumbags!  They know the laws and are making it impossible for you to track them down to file a TCPA law suite.  I am an expert in this field. Want to learn more from others:
Google: Junk Fax Attorneys- it will blow your mind- these attorneys are professional extortionists!  Google TCPA Act to see how you can benefit from companies sending you all those faxes you never requested for health insurance, company vacations, or any other promotional fax you dont have an existing business relationship.  i think the junk fax police are running the biggest of all TCPA Act rackets.  if i am wrong, i apoligize to the junk fax police.  if i am right i would others to reply to this and we collectively hunt them down and file our own class action sutie.  it is easy to find out who they are.  send a letter on your letter head explaining you have recieved 10-20 faxes from one company and would like professional advice on how to stop the faxes.  someone will call you  and then we will know who is sending the fax police faxes and now we can f*** with them....

Fax Machine
We just got the fax from "The Fax Police", it came from and asks you to use (866)795-9610. I thought it was phishy too which is how I found my way to this site. I totally can't see what the worm is on the end of this hook Dee Dee Dee so nicely put it. If they already have your fax number to send you the "Fax Police" fax, what good does it do them for you to respond. I kind of like Joe's suggestion above, that:

Not exactly, what he will do is data mine your fax number, but more importantly, obtain the names and numbers of the companies he now knows are interested in marketing via junk faxes (his stated line of business as per WestFax's web site). A wonderfully slimy method for business development in a wonderfully slimy industry."

We just got a new copier that doubles as a fax machine and allows incoming fax to be stored on a hard drive instead of printing. This may offer a solution to junk fax wasting your paper and toner if it turns out to be possible that you can review the incoming fax without printing and only print the legitimate faxes that you want on paper.

It's a scam to get your fax number to sell to broadcasters, use the above link at the fcc and they have rules and forms for complaints. Time consuming, but we must start somewhere to save paper and frustration Good luck!

Our office received a fax from "The Fax Police" this morning saying to sending all unwanted faxes to 877-357-8133 ~ however, fax number on top came from 800-473-6209.  Went to this website - http://westfax.com/tollFreeRemovals.aspx - appears they are collecting all the fax numbers out there, then they offer their services to the FAXERS (not us common-folk who don't want the faxes) in the form of maintaining their fax lists, handling removals, etc.  Definately not the ones to use if you want to eliminate junk faxes.

I just spoke with a person who identified himself as president of Westfax. He refused to say whether his company was or wasn't behind the Fax Police thing, only that he didn't know if it directly and couldn't speak to it. He said his company was entirely legitimate. When I mentioned that getting unsolicited fax from the Fax Police was, um, ironic and constituted junk fax abuse, he said as long as there wasn't a commercial message or commercial solicitation it didn't count under the law. That sounds like the sort of thing someone who knew just how far the law extended would say. So I don't know if Westfax is behind this or not, but it does sound fishy. Perhaps they take our phone numbers and offer to sell the list to their own customers as 'do not fax' lists in order to protect them from liability. In which case he is doing us a favor, but he's also doing it with commercial intent. So here's to a morass of irony, dubious legality, and total timewasting.

Here's the deal:

Barry Clark, owner of Westfax, advocate for the rights of junk faxers (see http://www.westfax.com/pressReleases.aspx ) is, due to form, passing himself off as "The Fax Police" via an unsolicited junk fax.

That's right, just fax him all the junk faxes you receive at (800) 473 6209 (by sheer happenstance, I'm sure, 1 digit off from his company's "Customer Care" number of 6208) and he'll notify the companies for you and solve all your junk fax problems - for free.

Not exactly, what he will do is data mine your fax number, but more importantly, obtain the names and numbers of the companies he now knows are interested in marketing via junk faxes (his stated line of business as per WestFax's web site). A wonderfully slimy method for business development in a wonderfully slimy industry.

As for you, you know what you'll get from him... and it won't be relief from junk faxes.

I don't think it is a scam.  I believe it is a way to gather leads for them to sell.  If I send them every junk fax I receive, then they turn and sell that contact info on the fax I sent them.  They will take steps to have my fax number removed from the company faxing me at the same time selling that company information.

I've tracked it down to the Brown Deer Police Department in Wisconsin. Now that doesn't make it legit, but BDPD has it posted to a community website of mybrowndeernow.com

I didn't find it on the www.browndeerwi.org website (the official police website). I still won't be trying it. If anyone does and gets any result (good or bad), please post it.

We also received their fax.  Our machine prints out the "from" number (303-299-9309) and we Googled it, which took us to this URL:  http://westfax.com.

Evidently these people provide "Broadcast" services for faxing, email, voice, etc., etc.  We can't tell if their "Police" bit is fishy or if they really do remove your number from their own data base, or what.

Their phone numbers are 800-473-6208 and 303-299-9329.  We haven't yet called to question their motives....

Just got this same fax.  My guess is that they fish for legit fax numbers this way, and that if you return the fax, they know for sure you are a fax number, and will then send you time share stuff or something.  Notice they dont have a number that will remove you from THEIR list which the other businesses that send such faxes have at least!
