Meridian Financial must be using a variety of phone numbers. In checking on the internet I find they are a scam and duping citizens.I  was called from out of the blue by these scammers.I am reporting them and the phone # they used because I hope to stop their preying on consumers.

I received a phone call saying I was pre-approved for a home loan at a low rate of % and  monthly payments. I am not interested. However, I would like to know how these scammers obtained my number. They left the number 1-800-606-5131. The first caller leaving the number did not identify the  institution of origin and when I returned the call the institution again failed to identify  itself. I  requested the name of the institution. She replied "Meridian Financial".

Don't give them your personal information.  You should see the people they hire to work at this place in Costa Mesa.  I was there about a week and realized that it is a total scam.  There is no background check done on the new employees.  Your information is not secure.  The only thing they are interested in is getting as much money quickly from each customer before they realize they have been used!

Received the same call today. Call came from 714-991-5420 and I was told to call James at 800-477-0924, est 1722. Sounded strange so I thought I'd check it out. Funny how I just talked to my mortgage company yesterday and they never mentioned it.

Left message to call James in 3 bus days for a lower rate due to good payment record - never return these type of calls.  Do not have a mortgage.  Pure scam!

I just got a message on my phone saying the same thing.   The same lady and James.  I didn't even bother to call I figure it had to be a scam.  When they didn't tell me where they were from, I had a feeling.  Glad I entered to number and found this out on the web.  Thanks for saving me a headache with these people.

They continue to try to scam people.  Had this same message on my answering machine yesterday (May 12, 2010).  Did not return call to James but will be contacting my bank.

Same exact thing here...same exact script as above.  Glad I found this site.  My husband said it's too good to be true or there's some type of fee or catch somewhere.  Funny thing is our mortgage is already at this rate.  Thanks everyone!!

I received this obvious scam call on May 6, 2010.

Here's the entire transcript exactly as recorded on my answering machine:

"Hello, this is Linda, senior underwriter.  I'm calling in regard to your existing mortgage account.  Based on your recent payment activity our department has been authorized to lower your interest rate to reduce your monthly payment.  The current interest rate for a 30 year fixed is 5.357% and there are no out-of-pocket costs with this program. There are a few items I need to confirm with you, so please call the underwriter assigned to your account, James, directly in the underwriting department at 1-800-477-0924, extension 1722.  Once again, that's 1-800-477-0924, extension 1722.  This will be the only notice that you receive and the offer is only valid for 3 business days.  Thank you and have a wonderful day.?

I used information provided on page 1 of this thread to report this call to the FCC.  It took just a few minutes.

Got the SAME message.  The kicker is that our mortgage is only 5.25%!!!  OBVIOUSLY, they don't know anything about our mortgage and it's not based on our payment history.  Idiots!

Received a call from a Linda (from the "underwriter") who referred to the 5.375 rate for a 30 year fixed and no out of pocket costs. She said to call James at 800 477 0924 ext. 1722. I tried calling the number but it was busy.

I too was fooled into returning their call even though it sounded too good to be true. What was I thinking? I talked with them and also gave out my address and phone number, but I did not reveal my personal information otherwise. They have tried to call back at least twice, but now I imagine they are on to other calls to bait whoever they can.

I received the same phone call. Funny thing is I don't have a mortgage and I'm on the do not call list. They may be legit, but their business tactics are not. I'm reporting them, I suggest you do the same. I wouldn't give them any info about yourself.

Had a message on my phone saying that because my recent mortgage payments have been timely that we qualified for a lower interest rate of 5.3% with no out of pocket costs. Callers name was Linda, Senior Underwriter. She ask that I call her loan officer James at 800-477-0924 ext. 1722. I must call within the next three business days or the offer would not be good. I called, was ask my name, put on hold and then told James was on the other line but this gentlemen worked with him and he could handle the call. I ask the name of the Company and how they got my number. He said they were Meridian Financial and the same thing Linda had said. I told him I needed to do some research on the Company and I would call back. He said ok and that was it. Thanks for this website!!!
