I work from home, and I have a home phone line that I only use for work.  I've never given the number to ANYONE, not even my sister!  And Lisa Martin's automated message tells me to call this 800 number for an urgent message.  How urgent can it be if she doesn't have my cell phone?  Even my bill collectors call my cell phone for business, so who is she? And how does she have this number?

We keep getting messages for my husband stating that it is in his best interest to return the call immediately.  I tried blowing a whistle in the phone, but even that did not work.  Maybe they will give up eventually.

I've been getting harassing phone calls from these people. They say that I took out a home improvement loan and the company is willing to settle for a certain amount or else they would have no choice but to seek legal action.

When I told them they had the wrong person, the man gave me an attitude and I proceeded to curse him out.

With continuing calls form these low-lifes, I've taken to calling them at my leisure and hanging up on them. Fight fire with fire!

We do need to call one of the credit reporting companies to let them know that a possible fraud may have taken place. Call TransUnion at 800-680-7289 to let them know that someone thinks you owe them money. This is important in identity theft matters.

This automated call comes to my house daily! I am sick of it but will not call the number. Is there any way this can be stopped? It shows "unknown name"
"unknown number" on my caller ID.

I should have proof-read that. In the last paragraph, I tried to move some text around to express it better, but I left some words there that should have been removed.

What I meant to say is:

I have been told that the sheriff can't serve the papers unless you, or a child of 18+ years of age, answers your door, or they catch you out in public. I doubt that's going to happen. Without service of a summons, the court won't hear the case.

I must admit, it all started out with about of the dozen of the worst leaches calling many times a day. It seems that several of my 6-8 credit card balance have been resold several times. After being ignored, all but one of them seems to have sold it to another sucker, who gives up just as quickly.

The only semi-serious attempt, was when the Sheriff served papers for a legit law firm (not the shyster Fred Hanna), but the paperwork was all made out wrong, so the sheriff retaliated by returning the summons marked as "unable to locate", despite the sheriff and I had a very honest and cordial talk and I even volunteered to come down the courthouse if the would call me when the corrected paper was ready. I had not reason to hide. I know I own the money; I know I don't have the income that used to allow me to pay all of my balances in full every month. I was prepared to go into court and explain my situation, but I guess the sheriff spared me the ordeal

It may be short lived though, that law firm is starting to mail me again. I just hope they don't try to have me served again within 3 years. However, I've learned that they can't serve unless you answer you or an child (might have to be 18 or older) or adult the door, or they catch you out in public. Even if they do, this stone doesn't bleed cash, so they're wasting their time. My credit is so shot, I might as well file bankruptcy, if he force me to do it.

Debt Collector
I just received a message with a recorded voice asking for me. I'm sure it's a debt collector, because they are the only calls I get since I lost my job and the company folded the pension before I got a dime.

I have now blocked this number, so all they will get is a message saying "This line is no longer in service." If they find out my cell phone number, which they usually do, I will assign a "beep only" ring tone, just so I don't accidentally pickup while they're on the line, which might occur if I were to set the beep tone to silence. They can leave a message but it will be deleted unheard.

I am now living below the poverty level. They are welcome go after me in court, but you can't get block from a stone. I guess I have to put up with this nuisance for 3 more years until the stature of limitations runs out after 4 years in PA. However, I would be glad to record an abusive caller, so I could sue for $1.5, like the black man in Texas, who had to endure an unbelievable stream of racist invective, and he didn't even owe anyone anything, except for the accounts with BofA, which were all being paid as agreed, and current.

I got a call from "Lisa" while on the road.  I called back thinking it was related to an issue with Enterprise Car and a guy answered said to hold on and call dropped.  CallerID came back as (440) 542-1360.  Since the number they called in my VoIP service, I think I'll write a rule that will send there calls back to themselves.  Yes, I can be nasty too!

Does not work. I have sent certified mailings to each branch of the company and the student loan companies to which I am in debt. I told them they could only contact me by postal service mail.

They have mainly ignored it. I had one company confirm, by mail, that they received my letter, and then wanted me to call and talk to them about my letter!

They continue to call, and no one seems to be able to do anything about it. The companies are Best Buy/their bank (HSBC, if I remember correctly), Great Lakes (for my student loans, which they SOLD a couple of years ago), and ACS (for my student loans.)

I have reported these companies to several agencies, and all I have ever gotten is the runaround.

AT&T charges for the traces, and will not block any calls or give you information on the callers. I/we are barely scratching by as it is, I/we don't have money for caller id or blocking.

Lisa Martin called my office, we recently switched phone systems so when I saw outside call I answered because some or our internal calls are showing up as such as all phone lines are being transposed to the new system, she started right in saying that she was calling on behalf of Kings County of NY that the call was being taped and that I could be sued giving incorrect information to her.  When I said she had the wrong person that wasn?t my name; she told me she'd gotten to me through the switchboard; I knew something was wrong then.  That was a week ago, it was the first time I ever got such a call? another one came in today when I check my messages it was a recorded voice leaving and urgent message for me to call Lisa Martin back.

Wow.. so glad I googled this #.  I assumed it was something fishy anyway, since the lady that calls just says her name and phone # requesting a call back, rather rudely too.  She said 'My name is Lisa Martin, call me back @ 1-800-493-0064' and that was it..no company name and no mention of what the call is about.  Years ago when my husband and I were having financial problems, we did get collection calls, and those callers always gave a company name and the nature of their call.  I know now, were good financially and have no need for any collection calls, so I knew something was up.  Thanks for everyone posting a comment about this.

NES, National Enterprise Systems. http://www.nes1.com/default.aspx

They are a debt collector, but very shady. Receive calls from Lisa Martin, Jim Martin, and Mike Morgan. Never specify the name of the person they are calling, just ask for my SSN to 'pull up your file'.  They use many different numbers, too:

800-243-0002
800-337-6556
800-591-0016

Don't give them any private data, such as your SSN.

i got my first call from 800-493-0064 at like 7 at night when i was at work telling me her name and she was ordered to contact me for a debt before it went to court. i talked to her a few min then began to feel it was a scam. scary thing was she knew my balance on my credit card!! anyways the call came up unknown she said her name was sandy shields she gave no company name and right away started asking for personal info. and telling me a settlement amount i had to pay by months end or i would be sued and all court costs would be on me. i asked for a # and told her i was at work and couldnt talk on a cell she said she couldnt give me the number til i told her something concrete about how i was going to pay my debt! but she finally gave me the number and told me to call after one pm and said i had 24 hours to call or she was proceeding with the lawsuit!! i didnt call her back but in the morning at 11 she started calling i didnt answer cause i was asleep i work over night but she called at 11, 1, 2, 3, and 5 leaving the same voicemail saying her name and it was imperative i call back and that i was only causing more trouble for myself. the last one she got rude! i am pissed i found out she has been calling my parents house 10 times a day! this is uncalled for! oh and when i asked about paying it back the only way to pay is by transfering to anouther credit card or personal bank account go figure!!!!

There is no need to haggle with these nitwits over the phone. Even if you are certain that you owe the debt, they STILL have to validate the debt they are calling you about before they can collect anything. That is the law!

Send them this Cease Communication letter and DEMAND validation VIA Certified Mail wiith return receipt requested. If they continue calling after you have written proof they received it, they can face fines of up to $1,000.00 PER violation. Keep copies of everything you send!

Dear {insert name of collector or company},

I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state)
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.
you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA;
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

I keep getting calls from Lisa Martin also. However when I called back it was legit, I believe, collecting for BonTon or ElderBeerman credit account.

Upon my explaining that my husband is in jury duty and we have NO extra cash right now she first asked if I can borrow it, uh no!, then she said it is so small dont you want to clear it up? I told her my rent payment to put a house over me and my kids is more important now. She THEN proceeds to ask me if I had a job, i said no i stay home with my kids, she had the gall to tell me i should get a part time job!!! I simply told her it was none of her business and I am not refusing to pay I just can't pay them now like they want, she said have a nice day
