This number calls EVERY Day to my place of work! When I answer, the call disconnects. No one says a word. When they call after hours, they do not leave a message, so today I decide to call them back.  They claim to be HSBC, but I highly doubt it since we have no business with them.

I get put on hold and told that the next representative will be right with me.  guy gets on the line and immediately asks for my account number- "um no- and even if i DID have an account number would not be giving it out!!! The guys WAS very nice, he just happens to be working for a $CAM BULL$HIT company posing as another!!!

I basically told him we get numerous calls a day and they are all hang ups! He said they need to speak to the business owner or Accounts Payable and I responded with "well no one ever ASKS No messages are EVER left!!" The calls are hang ups! How am I supposed to know who you need to speak to if the call is always a hang up? We went round and round on this and his "argument" was basically that "they cant give out personal information regarding the call" and I said "well i understand that but the calls are harassing and a waste of my time because they are hang ups! How am I suppose to know you need someone to call back when no one is on the other line???!!!" He either didn't get it, or had his scammer of a boss over his shoulder. I told him the calls need to stop, he said he needs to speak to business owner or accounts payable about a "business matter" and i responded with " no one is ever going to take your calls when the message is THAT vague" so take us off your list.  He told me he "can't" and the calls will continue until they get a response. To which i replied. "if you want a response, then your callers- or calling system needs to leave a message and not just call and disconnect the call" and I said it is harassment which he said it was not because "we agreed to something with some contract" (But still would not give a name or any information)

The hours of operation for the HSBC collections department is 8am-9pm Mon-Thurs and 8am-4:15pm Fri-Sun.  If you are past due on your account their dialer program will keep trying to reach you at the numbers you provided on your account.  If you don't answer within a few rings the dialer will hang up rather than letting it ring incessantly.  How did I get this information?  I just answered my phone and asked why they were calling me.  I wasn't afraid to give my name because I knew I wasn't going to give them any financial information.  I did a follow up call to be sure I was speaking with HSBC by requesting the name of the reps manager and his direct extension.  I called the number on the back of my HSBC credit card and because I was past due on my account, my call was directed to the collections department and I reached another rep, who verified the managers name and direct extension number.

I worked for the bank for 10 years and just recently left as 3 months ago. This is not an HSBC Customer Service number nor is a collections number. Unless things have changed with their customer service numbers in the last 3 months, this is a scam. I still keep in touch with past co workers and beware that this is not an HSBC Customer service number. Do not ever give them any details. If you feel that it is an HSBC related matter, call 1-800-975-HSBC and ask for collections. Do not ever take a call from someone claiming to be a bank. I have seen to many times people getting scammed for believing that a personal matter was really nothing more than stealing your personal details and using them for fraud.

I received calls from this number several times a day, never answering it, thinking it would go away--wrong.  I called back and spoke with Jason, who asked for my account number.  I do not have an account number.  Jason suggested when the number calls again, tell the rep to take my number from the calling list.  When the number called me again and the rep asked for "Alexander", I politely indicated I do not know any Alexander and asked that my number be removed from the account.  The rep was very polite and indicated my number would be removed from the account.  I have not received any calls since, so do not be afraid to answer to stop the calls.

Continuous calls.  I never answer.  They never leave a message.  I wonder how many people were "born yesterday" and fall for this scam.  I hope sites like this help those folks learn about the perils of identity theft.

Be warned: I just talked to an HSBC rep that I was getting one call per hour yesterday at work on my cell by an 800 number - 1800-524-9686. I finally called them back this morning. A recording came on and said "thank you for calling. please wait for a representative." Then a woman came on and I asked her who was I calling, she said "Ma'am you are calling HSBC. May I have your account number?" I said, "No, I won't give you my number be because I know the 800-975-HSBC number as well as the card reporting number. I asked her to verify my account instead. I gave her my phone number and she said, we don't have an account with you. Sorry for disturbing you." That's when I knew this was not a legit HSBC number. If you go on HSBC's number you won't find their number either.

HSBC has been very good in keeping track of fraudulent charged on my account even if it is under $10.00. I called HSBC and reported the 800-524-9686 number. Be very careful.

I have been getting these calls but they just hang up when I answer. It could be HSBC because I do have accounts with them, but why the hangups? HSBC has gotten a little strange for me. When they redid their web site in October they required that you give a 'Memorable Answer'. The problem is that here is no 'Memorable Question'. Then you don't enter your password but parts of it, kind of like a cryptogram. If I become certain that HSBC is calling me and hanging up, I'll move my accounts to a local Savings and Loan with no 'Memorable Answers'.

This is HSBC Bank Credit Card. They were calling because i missed last month's payment.
The number is legitimate. I verified this by calling their number back. The reason I received several hang-up calls from their number is because it is their policy to not leave messages. They only talk to people who answer their phones for real.

It's HSBC. I was overdrawn for more than 3 weeks and they called. Asked me to make payment over phone, but told them I would go to branch instead. No push back. Made branch deposit and called them back to verify receipt. It's a legit call, but like you said, don't give out info if there are other means at your disposal.

Sorry, but you're foolish if you gave him/them your private/financial info as it sounds like a scam. Well, either that or YOU'RE working with THEM and trying to get people here to trust them when they call by giving a "good" review of them. There are plenty of scammers out there that will use a business's good name to gain the trust of the people they call. Just because they SAY they are with a particular company, doesn't mean they are. They could easily be Joe Schmoe calling from his home/cell phone. You trust NO ONE over the phone.

I don't give ANYONE private info over the phone, esp. when THEY call me and I ALWAYS verify their reason for calling by calling the company's number back(but that's only IF I actually have some business or a loan with them or something. Given that I have no credit debt, no loans that I owe, etc...then I KNOW for sure it's a SCAM so I ignore them and report it.). You do know that A LOT of these types of calls are done so using "spoofed" numbers(sometimes using the names of real/legitimate companies don't you?

You NEVER EVER give out personal or credit info over the phone/email no matter who they say they are! If you have an actual debt, then YOU call the bank, school, or whoever handles your loan to verify any info. You also should have something in writing, regarding your debts. If you notice, many of these callers NEVER mail you anything, they just call you hoping you'll bite on it and give them your info.

Bottom line and my general rule?
I call YOU(the actual company, bank, etc...that I have business with if there is a concern), you don't call me to "verify" anything of mine(esp over the phone!).

I just recived a call from this number informing me that i had been overdrafted due to not meeting a (ridiculously high and completely new Mininum balance) and the service fee actually ended up overdrafting me. So he was like hounding me when i was gonna pay it. it seemed like he wanted me to pay via phone but i said i would be going into my branch and probably closing the acct altogether. after i hung up i realized how fishy it was - i am going to the bank now to figure it out. why should i suddenly start having a min. balance 2 years after i open the acct??? WEIRD. do not confirm any personal info! i only confirmed my mailing address, and my cell # which they obviously already had because that's how they called. but i am worried now :/ will update soon!

Someone called and said that they were from the HSBC collections department and they were calling to attempt to collect a debt.  He said the conversation was being recorded (and there were beeps going on throughout our conversation).

He gave me the last 4 digits of the obligation number, and said that I owed about $1,900 on this loan.

While I do have a loan with HSBC, I don't have one with the last 4 digits he provided.  I asked him to give me the full loan number, and he could not.

When I explained that I was uncomfortable with talking with him since it was an unsolicited call and I don't have a loan with those digits, he put me on hold and then said his manager approved him giving me a phone number to call back - 800-524-9686, and said it was HSBC's corporate office in Buffalo NY.

I hung up, called my HSBC Rep ... and confirmed that this is definitely a scam.

It's HSBC Collections department in regards to overdraft accounts. They usually call if your checking account with them has been overdrafted longer than 2+ weeks.
