I doubt the validity of this being Ricoh.  Recently, we received a call from a vendor who tricked someone here into giving the brand and model number of our copier over the phone.  The 800-527-9379 x 78702 caller is asking for our copier's serial number!!!  DO NOT GIVE YOUR COPIER SERIAL NUMBER OVER THE PHONE TO ANYONE YOU DID NOT FIRST CALL.   We have had a maintenance agreement with Ricoh for at least 4 years.  It is NOT based on the number of copies we run.  It is a flat fee paid quarterly.  We call them when we need service or toner.  Maybe this is Ricoh, but I'm not taking a chance.  They know our copier's serial number if they are Ricoh.  They've never called us before like this.  Maybe the Ricoh company repairman can send them the copy count following his next visit.  
I called this number, and they did not answer the phone "Ricoh" (with a New Jersey accent) as usual.  This is not the normal Ricoh service and supplies number.  I do this for two companies at the moment, and there is only one number for Ricoh, and it's NOT this number.  I told the woman why I was calling, and she insisted on my giving her my copier's serial number.  I told her we are not on a counter billing schedule, so I refused.

This was a call from the meter-reading dept of Ricoh, regarding an office copier/printer.
