Had a call on the answering machine today from Michelle in the Underwriting Department offering to lower my interest rates.  I have no intention of calling back, but wanted to add to the list of those receiving these calls.

Got the same call but from a different number.  727-474-4054
Does not Identify the Company or credit care.
Says it is "Urgent" I contact them to reduce my interest rate to 2%.
It is just scam to get you to give them your identity and account information to steal your money.
It is a shame so many people fall for this.

I Looked up this number on the net and read this but I gave these people the benefit of the doubt and they legitmately helped me.  I am happy and thankful I didn't listen to your post, Anyway,  I had tried to call my creditors several times directly and they never would do anything.

The call came up 1-800-709-9925 on my caller i.d.  I am amused as 1) this is a new phone number, none of my billing agencies have it and 2) I don't have ANY credit cards.  None.  Funny, I wonder how they're going to decrease my interest rate...???

Glad I checked out this site.  Got a call from Mary in the Underwriting dept saying because of my payment history I was eligible for a rate reduction to as low as 2% on my credit card.  I had 3 business days to call them back at 1-800-606-5122.  I thought cool!  I'll call them on Monday!  Over the weekend, it hit me...they never said which credit card company they were with as I have two cards.  One is with a zero interest so I assumed it had to be with the other company but I wasn't about to give them any information on me so I thought I better google the number to see if anything comes up.  Glad I did.  Won't be calling "Mary" back.

I get calls from this company all the time. I call them back, just to waste their time.  I keep them on the line as long as I can just to prevent them from scamming other folks.  Let's put these scammers out of business.

I keep getting these calls, it just says, "Underwriting Department," and they're calling about my credit card and that my recent activity qualifies me for a lower interest rate. Here's the funny thing - I DON'T HAVE ANY CREDIT CARDS.  I've called them back SEVERAL times and every time I get to the part where I don't have a credit card, they freaking hang up, so I never get to the part, where I can say, I'm already on the "Do Not Call" list, why are you calling me and PLEASE REMOVE MY NUMBER.  They also hang up if you 'wait on the line for the first available operator' or 'press one to speak to a representative' and you try to tell them to remove your number.  Rude, ambiguous and SHADY.  I am reporting them to on the Do Not Call list, I'm going to try to get something done through either the BBB or the Federal Trade Commission or BOTH.  This is RIDICULOUS.

Caller said they were with the underwriters office and due to recent payments I was eligible for a 2% decrease in my interest rate on my credit card. Then, the same this offer is only good for 3 days. I am not calling back.

The phone call came from 1-800-709-9925,the lady said she  is from Underwriting Department ,if I will call back in 3 days! I will get my credit card interest lowered to 2% and she left the phone number I am supposed to call 1-800-606-5122.And mentioned that this is limited time offer. No mentioning the bank's name or any other legitimate names. My first reaction was to call(yes, the magic of the words-lower your credit card interest!),and then my brain chilled out for a sec-she did not say what credit card .I decided to check that number and - here we all are :) !!!! Thanks everyone for posting!! It is a great thing you do!

Mary called FROM 800-709-9925 and said: "Hi, I am Mary from the underwriting department. Based on your credit history, we want to offer you a lower rate on your credit cards. We will need a little more information from you. Please call us at 800-606-5122.  We may be able to lower your interest rate, sometimes to 2 per cent."

No mention of WHICH credit card; I have no balance on my card so this 'offer' is a scam.  I reported it to www.fcc.gov citing it was a fraudulent offer from a telemartketer.  I note Tessa in April 2012 reported the same pitch.  The FCC indicated it would follow up on these fraudsters.

Based on a suggestion from another complainant about a similar call, I purchased a DIGIT ONE Call Blocker (www.digitone.com) and after installation, my unwanted telemarketer, charity, political solicitations, etc., have dropped significantly.  The blocker automatically kills all 800, 877, 888, etc. calls unless you wish to receive specified calls from an 800 number.

The silence is golden!!

Got the same call from 800-606-5122.  I called back to ask how they got my name and they couldn't tell me.  I asked to speak to someone who can provide verification that they are a licensed underwriter for the credit agencies.  They could not reach the person nor provide a name for me to call back.  Scam.

Wow, you must be getting desperate. THIS IS A SCAM. When you learn to lie better, maybe you can get a real job instead of scamming on the phone and the internet.

I received a call from 800-606-5122 today stating that it was Mary calling from the Underwriting Department.  I should call back within 3 days to take advantage of lowering my interest rate on my credit card.  NOT!!!
the phone ID was a different number 800-709-9925.  Think about it folks!  They don't want to help you.  They want to hurt you!

re: 800-606-5122
Legitimate credit card companies do not volunteer to CALL YOU and OFFER a lower interest rate-!!
Neither do they ever say anything like "this offer is valid only for 3 days", as the message I received said.

"Underwriting dept" is a vague term, and one which I've never heard applied to credit card companies.
Lastly, NEVER GIVE INFO to someone who is calling you to "confirm" it.

Nope, nope, nope.

I've have experience with credit card companies and pay-off plans, etc., and NONE of what I heard in the phone call I got from 800-606-5122 was standard.

If you're still curious about the offer, call your creditor using the number on your card or account statement and ask them about it. ...They actually may legitimately be able to do something for you.

Yup, just got the call from Mary at 800-606-5122.  Due to my credit history they offered to reduce the interest rate on my credit card to 2%. Woo-hoo!  Wait, which card? Ha! Hope no one falls for this.  I never call these numbers back.  Always, always, ALWAYS research people!

I got the same call today. So I called the number just out of curiosity.  Same thing. I guarantee its a scam.  Especially when the call I received did not even tell me the name of the company. But I do have 3 days to lower my rate.  I then went to search and put in the number and came up with this site.  Very helpful. Thanks to all who commented. I knew it was a scam.

A woman who called herself Amy called me today.  She mentioned no company, just that she was from the Underwriting Department.  She said we had three days to get a 4.99% mortgage rate.

No phone number on caller ID, but they left this phone no. To call back.  I wanted to ask them to give me their unlisted phone so I could report it to the do do call registry as a violation.  When you call, you get a "voice mailbox is full message", no one answers.  Same thing as others, they say they are underwriters and want to do new mortgage.  I think they want you to provide personal info, so it is essentially a phishing operation.

"Amy" called me too.
The caller ID came in as "Washington" with the phone number 206-701-0285.   She left the call back number as 800-606-5122.

Alert the FCC and file a quick online complaint. :)

I have gotten several calls from these people. It seems very strange because I am trying to get a lower rate but I have not told my bank or anyone else. I decided to look up the number and here is this page with the info. Wow.

I too received the same call from amy stating she was calling from the underwriting department promising a 4.99% mortgage and in most cases less. I was told I had 3 days to call back. Out of curiosity I tried to call back. 1-800-606-5122 is a non-working number. I have a feeling that this is a major scam wheer they will try and get your personal information for theft.
