I got much the same "unwanted" call as was reported by < m3robert > on 12 Jun 2010
The called left a message on my machine that would lead one to suspect that they knew "something" about my home payments - and that they could offer me a much lower rate.
Since my house is paid for I seriously doubt they know anything about me.

Got the exact same thing on 10/21/2010.  Said the offer is only good for 3 business days and I should call back so they can get some information from me.  Like what?  My bank account where I pay my mortgage?  Pfffft...yeah, right.

The Do Not Call site (donotcall.gov) should have a page where you can report the unwanted calls.

I got the same message.  The number they were calling from was not the 800 number but another California number (714-991-5420 as reported by Ray earlier).  What a scam.

They have a video on their site about the debunking of the BBB by ABC news and boldly state that they are not members.  Ugh...we are smart but the sweet gullible little old ladies aren't as swift...why haven't they been shut down yet...I see reports on here from way back in the summer.  :(

I just got the same call as you all with the same message.  1-714-991-5420 Anaheim, CA is the number on the caller ID and it says we have 3 days or offer will expire.  I feel bad for the gullible old folks who fall for this.  They should be ashamed.  Yes...I am on the Do Not Call list like most of you and did report...I'm convinced that no one monitors the do not call reports.  I still get these scam calls...what's the point of the do not call list anyway.  :(

Got a call from 18006065131. They left a message. The message conveniently cut off half way thru. Immediately assumed it was a scam because if it were my home mortgage company, the message would not have cut off half way!

Glad to see there is so much chatter online about these folks...they don't want to help you get a loan, they think they are entitle to a free months ("lock in fee") charge...usually 1 month mortgage payment. No one is getting any money but them! I learned the hard way.

I received a call yesterday - a pre-recorded message from "Amy in the Underwriting dep't." indicating that my recent mortgage payment history qualified me for a reduced interest rate of 4.99% - it said to call 1-800-606-5131.This was not someone I'd contacted about a mortgage, since I don't even have a mortgage! I tried calling back last night but it wouldn't go through. I called again today and the person answered the phone as "Underwriting department". I asked the company name and was told "Meredian". I asked how they (Amy) got my number (since I don't have a mortgage) - she didn't know, but said they didn't call me. I told her they are tied to the message since the phone number given took me directly to their Underwriting department!
Evidently they haven't been stopped yet!

Our experience with Kevin Friedman/Meridian is a very bad one. Without going into details on the definition of bad, in June, Kevin (who the firm says they had to fire) ran our credit card for a "lock in" fee of over $5,000. After receiving the $$$, it became very difficult to get anyone to return calls. Just recently, we heard from Brad (same firm) says our loan was turned down, and we would be hearing from Fortis Solutions, their title entity.

Today received via Post Office, official T/D from Fortis, they informed us that they would be keeping our "lock in" fee @ which point I called and left a message stating I wanted a phone call tomorrow, 10.10.10, re: my money.

So, here I am online, reviewing alternative actions. One would be to contact the Attny Gen. of CA immediately.

In summation, this seems like the roofer who gives you a quote to fix your roof, you accept and give him a deposit, and never see him again.

If you Google Kevin Friedman (with some searching, keywords:loan Officer, Meridian, Fortis etc) his name and cell number come up.

Received a voice message today from someone not releasing their number. The taped message was not clear about callers identification but stated she was from their companies underwriting department.  The language in the message was common to most in this thread.  I called our bank and verified that this was not a call from their establishment.  The caller ID listed them as "Out of Area"...no number.  A search on the internet for the call back number (1-800-606-5131) provided took me to a company called Meredian Financial and then several consumer complaints boards.  In fact, as of Feb 2010, the company was not licensed to broker mortgages in my state nor did they have a surety bond.  A look at the BBB site shows this company has an "F" rating.

I got a message from 'Amy' as well, but figured if it were really my mortgage company they would've identified themselves as such. Too bad there's people out there with nothing better to do than try to scam others.

I also got the same exact call yesterday. I am on the DO NOT CALL list. What is going on?

Then I got a call today from a Jeff at Carpet Tile and Furniture Cleaning -- 916-222-4456. What can we do? I called and left a message for the 916 to not call me, but the 800 number didn't work!!! It is illegitimate.
