Since I have never had DIRECT I would say that people need to be very careful giving these scammers any information over the phone. Not worth the effort to even answer the phone for scammers and/or crooks.

THANKS TO ALL WHO WROTE. YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I have never had Directv. My caller ID and voice mail get all my calls. I assume that these calls are for one of the previous renters of my telephone number. The only calls I would answer must come from People and Numbers that I recognize, or can find on Google, and that I want to call back. I assume, at some point, I will have to replace caller ID Batteries and maybe buy a new unit to replace one that they wore out. The people who are going, one way, to Mars are more likely to get calls from me.

They won't say anything when I answered the call twice today. So when they called again I wanted to see if they would leave a voicemail message and of course they didn't. I wish I could figure out who they are and why they are calling over and over again so I can file a complaint. Better yet I'm going to give my lawyer the number and tell her what keeps happening to see what she suggest I do.

These idiots on behalf of the idiots at Direct TV, call me all the time from different numbers.I have about a dozen of their numbers blocked because they will call several times a day 24/7, no matter what time of day or night and on weekends.  They don't take "wrong number" for an answer. They are nuts if I they think I am giving any payment information to them over the phone when they call me.  I don't know who they are and if they really are with Direct TV.  We have had a lot of phone scams going on here in Arkansas lately so the Governor and Attorney General has told us not to give out information.  Anyways, for those of you who may want to know, here are some of their other numbers.  You would think they would have ran out of phone numbers to call from by now.  Also be cautious, they will call from these different numbers claiming to be someone else and from a different company, and if they get you talking and verify your identity, then they will tell you that they are calling on behalf of Direct TV to collect an amount owed.  After their threatening to track down every living relative that I have and make their life a living hell with collection calls until I pay what they think I owe, I stopped answering all numbers that are "unknown", "out of area", ones that have bogus identities, one that spoof my phone number and make it look like I'm calling myself, and numbers I don't recognize.  They go directly to voicemail until I get a chance to block their number then they don't get through at all until they call from a different number, then I block that number, and the process repeats itself.  They want to auto draft something from my account that I did not authorize them to draft ($800+ even after I returned all equipment and had a cheap package) and it is illegal in the state of Arkansas per the Attorney General. It doesn't matter the contract that I signed.  They cannot auto draft anything because I never enrolled in auto draft, I only authorized 1 time payments which is all that they are allowed to draft if I authorize it, and they have to verify a specific amount to auto draft when the contract is signed.  They cannot just tell you that you will be draft "fees" and not specify what they are for and not specify the amount.  Basically, they cannot auto draft $900 from your account unless you specifically signed something stating that you would allow them to draft that $900.  They told me they were going to draft it out of the payment method on file, but would not tell me which method was on file.  Since I paid 1 time payments with my bank card, and I bought my receivers with a different card, I went to the bank as soon as i got off the phone with them when they said they were going to auto draft the $800 from the payment method on file, and reported my debit card lost/stolen.  The bank immediately canceled the old card number and gave me a new one, and if anyone tried to draft from that old card it would flag in the system but would not go through to my account.  As far as the other card that I bought my receivers with, let them go ahead and try to draft the $800 (which is an incorrect amount since I returned all equipment in perfect shape, you couldn't even tell they had been used) from that card because it won't go through.  The limit isn't high enough and if they do draft that card and the credit card company allows it to go through, it will be the credit card company and Direct TV in trouble because 1) I didn't authorize them to draft that amount and it is illegal in Arkansas for them to do so, 2) I have a specific limit on that card and the $800 is over the limit of that card, and I didn't authorize it so the credit card company will be the one paying that.
Here are SOME of the numbers they call from.  They must have a ton.

Hi everyone,

I have just started getting calls from this number.  For starters if it is DirectTV - they wouldn't be collecting money since we pay bundle with our phone company and have been current and up to date.  2nd, I don't owe anyone else, don't even have a credit card.  What this means - they are fraudulent and I would highly suggest people don't give them money.  Collection companies can and usually send correspondence.  Harassing calls of any nature should not be tolerated and should be reported to the FTC - see below.

My advice because I have done this and it works:
1.  Log at least three times that they call you but keep track of all calls.  Write down date, time, company if it shows up on caller ID or if they state whatever over the phone or through a message.

2.  If you talk to someone - state they are to stop calling you immediately and write down their response.

3.  Go to www.ftc.gov and fill out an online complaint form.  ***Note the federal government is on indefinite holiday wasting our hard earned tax dollars - so who knows when their website will be back up.  When you can actually log a complaint - fill in as much of the information as possible.

4.  Normally expect about three weeks before the FTC sends you an email to acknowledge - but with the shutdown - expect it to take longer.

I hope this helps.  Just remember, none of you deserve to be treated with disrespect, regardless of any debt owed.  In my opinion, there are far too  many scamers out there to know the difference between a true debt collector and an illegitimate one.  Exercise caution, never call back numbers you do not recognize - if they state they are from a specific company - look on your bill and call your contacts to ensure you find out specifics about any account you own.  Another tactic of scamers is to spoof numbers - your caller ID may show a company name but beware it may not be that company calling.   I have an answering machine at home and literally screen every call that comes in.  Scamers generally have not been leaving me messages - I also have a generic voice mail message - this ensures any robotic calling service does not leave messages.

I keep getting this number and another one on my phone... I don't have a landline, just my cell.  I've answered both numbers a few times and they get rude and insulting when I won't cave to their threats.  Now A Days, I just put my phone on vibrate and watch it move across my desk. :D If it doesn't have an ID on it and it's an 800 number, it doesn't get answered. Just wish they'd leave me alone.

They have started calling me as well and I have never had a direct TV account, but I cannot get through or get them to understand this. I just set my phone up so that these calls go straight to voice mail for me.  I have had this same # since 2009 but never any direct tv, so I have no idea why they are doing this.

I've received 3 calls from this number, I answered one time and there was nobody there. If you call it back you listen to a bunch of recordings and then it disconnects without letting you speak to anyone. I don't even know why they're calling me. I don't have any debt.

I had received 4 calls over a week and they left no message, after all, why would they when I don't care to call a collection agency back when I'm stedfast not paying?  I finally called the number and spoke to pleasant woman who I informed that I would not, under any circumstance, pay the $39 debt sent to them from DIRECTV.  When asked why, I provided the woman with some background on the issue.  She informed me that the account would go back to DIRECTV in dispute.  This was good because DIRECTV must explain their deceptive billing practices to the collection agency.

This is a lesson to anyone looking for cable/satellite television...it's not worth the signal it travels nor the paper they buy to advertise.  Pay-For-TV is a racket, regardless who sells it (same issue was had with Dish Network prior to this).  We've got 12 channels over the new digital public airwaves...that's good enough for us.

I believe this matter went well because I was kind to the woman on the phone.  There is debt that warrants a legitimate claim to collect.  These folks provide a service and they're just doing their job.  If they were rude to me, sure, this post would carry a different tone.

I got a call from a co-worker over the weekend stating some lady called from this number insisting on speaking with me. The company, person, or number didnt sound familiar to me. Seeing that I have only been working with my job for couple months, I havent provided this number to anyone but my family for emergency, so I was relunctant to call back b/c I know I didnt provide them my work number. Well, she called my job today and just so happenly I answered the phone. I stated that I was the person she asked for, then she told me she was with Focus Receivables Management and behalf of Directv. She asked me to verify my address, and I told her that it seems see she has somehow verified my employment, so no need to verify my address, and asked what she was calling about. She kept repeating she need me to verify my address, and I insisted that she state reason of calling. after fgoing back and forth, finally she said she will note refusal to verify address and said have a good day. VERY ODD!! Why not state reason for calling after I said I was the person you asked for??? I was not gonna give out my address!

This is a collection agency for Directv. I finally took the call and found out what it is. When I finally spoke to someone the lady didn't seem like she any knowledge about the account. Rather not answer their calls since they sound like they are spaced out and cannot help you. Talk about dumb as a door knob!
