I have also been a member of 1&1 for years and the DO send reminders for renewal. However, I do not like being bombarded by them with phone calls, in spite of choosing only email advertising from them ! I shall be making a formal complaint to their Support section ASAP !

1&1 does NOT bill you after you cancel a domain unless you still have an active hosting package. They ALWAYS send an email reminder regarding domain expiration. Their biggest problem is that the sales department doesn't know what's going on with the hosting side and calls even when you tell them not to.

Yup, I cancelled with 1&1 last month after my bills started rocketing and now I'm being hassled to go back to them. Their call centre is in the Philippines, despite being bounced from the USA. Their operators speak perfect scripted English until you go a little off-piste and then suddenly the call just goes to hell.

Yeah, I've been a 1&1 customer for 8 years, never had a problem that wasn't solved in a timely manner. They really ramped up the telemarketing in the past two years. Before that, I never heard from them. I generally don't answer 800-number calls anyway.

8006541916 calling to MY HUSBAND cellphone about an internet site that I own. I have not idea where they got his number from, but this is getting out of control, specially because I am a web designer and THEY HAVE THE DATA of my hosting account. How did they get that data??? Unreal.

I've been with 1&1 for a decade, and while I've moved some domains off of them onto some other hosting companies because I've technical problems I've had that they did not resolve for me (I don't think their support is the best), I still use them for a few domains and hosting and haven't had significant problems.
This is probably a telemarketing firm hired to sell you some additional services like a web-site builder app that costs more than the hosting. 1&1 is not a scammy company in my 10 years of experience. I've never had any horrible issues with them.
ChArlie 2014-05-30 22:11:35 Unknown
Same never a message
m 2014-05-30 18:54:11 Unknown
get calls from that number, and there never is a message
John Smith 2014-05-30 17:01:15 Unknown
I also have web hosting services through 1&1 and I have found them to be very reliable and cost effective. I never answer their calls though.
Fred Betterman 2014-05-29 18:01:22 Unknown
They are NOT a shady company. Google them and you will see they are one of the 10 LARGEST web hosting companies in the world (no small feat).
I have been with 1&1 for about 4 years now and they are a fantastic company. Their web & email hosting is very reliable. I also have several customer accounts I manage at 1&1. I am the billing and technical point of contact for those accounts. Your statement: "They bill you even after you cancel domains, they don't email you to notify you of domains when they are up to for renewal, they don't let you know in the hopes you forget and they can get another year out of you." is untrue based on my personal experience with 1&1. I have had no trouble like that with 1&1.
HOWEVER, I do not like them calling me and soliciting like they just did. If you ask they will remove you from their marketing list. Or (if you are a customer) you can log on to your account and do it through your main control panel.

I have a website with them, Im fully paid up and have no reason to speak to them.
P.S. Never have any problems with them.

Network Solutions is not exactly an honest broker, either. I had a domain name that I registered with them in 1996 expire last year while I was unemployed. They sent me an e-mail offer for a $9.99 renewal, then refused to honor it. Because the domain name had been registered and in use for so long, they designated it a "Premium" name and put it up for auction with a minimum bid of over $1000! Network Solutions can go straight to HelI! will never do business with them again.

Like everyone else, I came here because my cellphone displayed a number I did not recognize. Also like a few of you, I have used GoDaddy and 1and1. I don?t run a business; I maintain my own domain mostly for the personalized email address. I do occasionally put family photos in my Coppermine photo app for family members who don?t use Facebook.
It does sound like I have a different setup than most folks though. I have a different name registrar than my hosting company. Granted I get two bills, but I can switch my hosting company at any time with no hassle.
Every company has their own pros and cons.
I liked GoDaddy's website builder and Java-based upload. But since I was using Godaddy's cheapest hosting I only had something like 100mb of storage on their email server. That 100mb was for the entire domain, split across the five or six email addresses I created. I had to make sure that my wife would occasionally go to a PC and launch outlook to download her mail so her inbox would be freed up again.
1and1 gives me something like 2 GB of email storage on my current, which was cheaper than GoDaddy. I even switched my DNS from GoDaddy months before my contract was up so that I could start using 1and1 sooner.
1and1?s site builder does seem to leave a lot to be desired though, so I instead started learning Dreamweaver. On GoDaddy, I let the site builder add applications, and then I would maintain my own main-site HTML page to point to the separate apps.

Then don't give them your cell number, genius.

I've been 'on the Internet' for 20+ years now. There are three companies that I do business with in the Internet domain/hosting realm that I trust. Mistakes can happen but these are legitimate companies. I've done business with each of these companies (or one of their pre-merger predecessors) for over 10 years.
#1. GoDaddy
#2. 1and1.com
#3. HostGator
Everybody can recite a horror story they heard somewhere, etc. etc. but my experience has been, when you find yourself at odds with these three companies - it's probably your own fault. You didn't read the contract, the terms, or you didn't understand that what you read applied (or didn't apply) to your specific contract.

There is no debate. There is NO web provider that I would not happily choose over the scammers at 1&1.
Greg 2014-04-05 02:49:04 Telemarketer
I STRONGLY recommend to anyone to stay away from 1&1 (although, if you're reading this, you're probably an ex-customer of theirs and already know this). They run their business more like a racket than a web services provider. I'm not surprised they carry on their telemarketing in a less than forthright manner.
Hello 2014-04-04 14:58:11 Unknown
I live in the UK, I said 'Hello' and the automated voice said 'Sorry, that option is not valid'. Well if saying 'Hello' isn't valid then how are we meant to have a conversation?
Mark M 2014-03-25 15:19:02 Unknown
I agree with Mark C. I've used 1and1 internet for hosting serveral websites and have never had any issues with them. They are a legitimate company. Go to www.1and1.com for info.

Look, people are arriving here to find out who is calling them and not leaving a message.
Please cut the bs with a GoDaddy vs 1&1 debate.
I am customers with both now for years. In 5 years GoDaddy calls only to keep things from expiring. 1&1 calls me for the same reason, but ALSO they call me every few weeks to try and sell me additional products.
And that again, is why most of us wound up on this site. Some are here because they represent 1&1 and they were alerted that certain negative keywords were found somewhere on the internet.
The rest have fallen into the strange need to defend something they use, because their ego makes them feel that this equates to defending themselves. (Go read a book by Tolle)

This is the American aggressive marketing branch of a normally reasonable German/UK company. Unfortunately if you have an existing uk account, the American side have all your details and can debit you for new stuff after so called free offer periods. Deal only with uk 1 and 1. You have to ring through to America to cancel.

I have been a 1 and 1 customer for over 5 years. I create websites and have 10 customers who also use 1 and 1. The phone calls are from a 3rd party trying to add services. 1&1 itself is the best Domain server I have run across so far. The tech support is there (sometimes overseas, yes but willing to help with anything). I have no complaints about the company itself...i just don't answer when this number calls.
They have auto-renewal, and when i wanted a domain dropped i was not charged ever again. I get invoices about 4 times a year.

It sounds like your associated with this SHADY firm Boy!
I totally agree with most of the posts.. Their constant calls and emails are becoming more than annoying now!

Scamer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stay away
Melissa 2014-03-04 02:56:54 Unknown
I get reminders almost on a daily basis, so that part isn't true!
Marek C - chipandbytemaster 2014-02-28 04:11:49 Unknown
I definitely agree with Mark C (the names ARE a coincidence). I have been with 1 and 1 for almost 15 years. NEVER a problem! Always warning emails about renewals coming up, increased fees (happened only once in the last 15 years!!!), modified services, anything that is important. They started to call me about two years ago for some marketing. I called them back and had an instant stop of the calls. They must just have starting to call again, but I do not mind. As far as I am concerned, one call back will solve the issue and they may actually have something that I want. I doubt it, but who knows. The BEST ISP that there is!!!! By the way, I never had a chance to speak with somebody in India when calling 1 and 1. What number did you dial?
Spendex 2014-02-27 20:24:00 Telemarketer
Annoying for sure, however, if you just call number back they quickly allow you to opt out of these marketing calls by pressing 1, then your 10 digit phone number. Then it could take 10 days before it gets removed from database but at least there's an opt out solution here.
Michael W. Brinkman 2014-02-21 23:01:13 Unknown
Thanks for the info. I, too, get calls from that number, and there never is a message.
Wild Hare 2014-02-18 17:27:41 Unknown
You guys ever hear of Magic Jack? It costs next to nothing. I use that number to get services that require a phone number, but I never want to hear from. It's like your own personal black hole for telemarketers.
