Claims to be with Chase - "important" call about a credit card account and wants personal information.  Beware - a scam.

Caller left two messages on my voice mail asking me to call back "regarding important information about my account". When I did the automatic message introduced itself as a Chase department and actually told me to call "during regular business hours" since today was supposedly to late...Everything sounded very real, down to the usual elevator music in the background.

Debt Collector
I am a Chase customer and I know I am late on my account, so I am sure this is a legitimate attempt by Chase to see why I have not paid.
Here is what I recommend regarding ANY in coming call from ANY supposed creditor/collector: Do not answer directly, let them leave a message, if they leave no message simply delete and ignore. If they do identify themselves as one of your creditors then use the contact number on the back of your credit card or your original card agreement to call them to discuss why you are late and how you plan to get back on track. Do NOT call the number they said to on your VM, all creditors keep track of you by your account number and when you call the regular point of contact they will be able to see if your account is late or not and then route you to the specific people, ie internal collections dept, that you need to talk to. If nothing is wrong with your account then you are being scammed by someone to get your information for identity theft and you should let your creditor know that someone tried to contact you on your creditor's behalf and your creditor SHOULD have you talk to their frauds dept where you can report the call-in number, the call-back number and the message they left on your VM.
Expect all creditors to keep calling you until you resolve the problem with them......this is why you never want to give your primary number to any of your creditors, always give a cellphone that you can simply turn off until you are ready to address the problem on your terms not theirs'.

Telemarketer
Automated message asking me to confirm my name and enter the phone number that they called. Did this and then got a message saying to call 18006598741. The first call was from (402)220 5573
Recognized as a scam immediately and will report it to Chase Fraud now.

I've been getting 5 calls a day for past 5 days on my CELL PHONE (burning up my cell minutes). When they left a message with this 800 number (800-659-8741) I called back to see who is this. It sounded like a call center and the first question the guy asked was my credit card or social security number. If you visit the actual chase bank website and search for this number, you won't find this 800 number there. I've called the numbers listed on their website and thrice they verified and told me that it is DEFINITELY NOT chase bank. They asked me to file a police complaint and I did it today (Aug 31 09). Beware of this fradulant activity.

I was asked to enter the 10 digit phone # that the message was left at.   I did and they said they couldn't verify it.   I was then asked (by the recorded message) to call their 800 number instead.   I did but no one answered that number.
