These jerks called my phone at work, bombed my cell, and sent a fax at my workplace. I'm really annoyed with all the harassing phone calls. I hope this petition works:

Ya, I have a balance due on my student loan for an education interrupted. My mother suffered a massive stroke and died. She had no life insurance. I emptied my savings to give her a decent burial but still owed some money on her service. Bills were getting paid, credit was improving. Then I got laid off, got into car accident that wasn't my fault and the person who hit me had no insurance, etc. Now I'm making about 12,000 less a year since I took out student loan. So before you start making judgements on people and calling them scumbags, walk a mile in their shoes.

I just received a phone call at my work place. Now keep in mind no one has this phone number here at all. The girl said they needed to verify my last four of my social and my date of birth. I told  her was not getting the last four of my social. She said she could not go any further unless I provided her the information. I told her I was not giving her any information at all. She said she would let me speak with her supervisor. His name was Michael Segal and the direct # was 603-637-2690 and they were located in Bedford NH. He was unable to fax me anything to my work. He told me I needed to verify my mailing address again so they could re-send it . I told him NO! I told him i was calling the Bedford Police department, and thats when he gave me the direct number to call him back. DONT FALL FOR IT, IM NOT!

If contacted by these collectors, just talk to them.  They are trying to 1) earn a paycheck and also more importantly 2) get you out of a situation that you may have put yourself in.   Don't let collections scare you.  They will work with you.

Received a call from a private number, and I answered anyway, thinking it could be a friend with an unlisted number. A man, very politely, said he was from Delta Management and he was looking for my step-daughter. My step-daughter has never lived with us, so they were just tracking down the family. I asked them to leave a message since I couldn't give out her number. They left this number 1-800-688-6337 ex. 2692. with the message to call them. He would not tell me why.

When I googled Delta Management, I could see it is a collection agency. I know that she does still owe money on student loans and her husband has a lien on a car he sold, so I guess the collectors are after them. Sad.

I am facing a similar issue and they won't stop calling. I had paid off some school loans several years ago and all others I consolidated and continue to pay yet Delta Management is calling me, friends and family (even at work) repeatedly saying I owe money that I don't. They will not leave us alone. Why would I not pay 1 small school loan when I alrady paid off and continue to pay off all the other school loans. It doesn't make sense. It's like they pulled this loan out of thin air. I have been out of school for over 7 years and have been paying off my loans every month since then.

Someone from this number called today, when my daughter answered the phone they hung up.  So I called them back when I got home.

I was told by the person I spoke with:
(a)  My number is not in their database, so she doesn't know why I was called
(b)  They ARE a debt collection agency specializing in student loans.  Since neither my wife or I have been in college for over 35 years, and our few loans are long since paid off, I wasn't too worried about this one.
(c)  They are also a "skip tracing" firm.  She would not elaborate on that.
(d)  She promised to inform her supervisor that we talked, and that I should not receive any more calls.  We shall see.

These people called me looking for a Wayne Liberty who listed our name and number as a contact.   I explained that he has the wrong #....my son is only 9 and would not be hanging around with a 26 year old!  I have no neighbors with that name either.   The man was very nice and apologized for calling.   Let's see if they call back.

Hide Like a coward? Hide like a coward. Have you had a disabled husband, and are you paying all of your bills with one income? yes, maybe we did not take care of this in the appropriate way, but you know what? I chose to pay my house payment, to keep a roof over my families head, and this went to the back burner, but I do not consider myself, or any of these people posting on this site a coward. We are working middle class people who are just trying to stay afloat and breath. Coward, I think now- A** hole.

Most often once the account is handed over to a collection agency the original creditor will refer you back to them as it is in their hands now. They do send letters unless, like in your case you hide like a coward.

Clearly one of them was not up to date or looked over as it was sent by your original creditor to the collection agency. They had to call relatives of yours most likely because you would not answer your phone or did not provide updated information. The collection agencies do have the ss# but if you call in they are not going to discuss the debt with just anybody, so need to verify. If they had called you they would be able to tell you what it is.

so these people said they have been trying to contact me for years or months, i never heard of these people untill they took all of my tax refund i got  this year 2011 ($8,500) everything. the orkginal loan was with direct loans for 7000 but they said i owe them 10,000 because they bought the loan or took over. anyway i explained to them i am currently not working with two dependents, not married and i have other loans with citibank in forbearance if they wanted to check it. they just didn't give a flying crap about anything i told them and said its already in process, my money being transferred from the irs to them (delta management)  i nearly killed my self when i lost that money and i have to pay them the remaining 2000 dollars in increments. God help me

Normal person you sound like a real A**!!! It's one thing to owe money but it is another for these collection agencies to use bullying and fear tactics to get you to pay a debt. That is wrong on some many levels one being legality wise so I suggest you shut your pie hole if you don't know what you're talking about.

This number calls me 5-6 times a day on my cell phone and now they've started calling my sister (whom I don't live with.)  I don't know how they got either number but they always identify themselves as Delta Mgmt. I'm actually ahead of my student loan payments so there's no way I'm in default.  I really don't know who these people are, but they seem quite hinky. ;)

Delta Management is a debt collection agency for Federal Guaranteed student loans. Most post will take a slightly different, yet honest slant.

My student loans were in deferment and expired. I was not notified despite informing all my creditor of my new address after a move to another state.
Per Federal Law, a loan goes into default status after 10 months. They placed my loan in default after 6 months. My first "clue" it was in default status was when I then received a letter in the mail 1 week after they placed it as being in default. The regular payments were $160 a month, so at worst, I owed $1600 (over 10 month right)? Wrong, they added $8,000 in "fees" and collection cost (I guess they pay way more for LD than us regular folks). Anyway, I contacted them to make payment arrangements, I was told that my ONLY choice was to pay them $500 a month for 10 months before they would even CONSIDER removing the default status on the loans. After a default status is removed, you can refinance and possible get more forebearances. Anyway, I told them what makes them think I can pay $500 a month, when I obviously did not pay $160 a month, and for 10 months at that? They told me to take it or leave it.

In the same call, they obviously looked at a copy of my credit file and told me "You are paying $xx a month to your car note and $xx to your mortgage, so you MUST pay us as well." This is the point where the conversation turned ugly folks. They then told me the name of both by employers and my wife's employer and told me they if I did not give them bank account information and a payment TODAY, they would take steps to garnish my wages (legal) and my wife's (not legal)an put a lien on my home (not legal).

They took my tax refund for the recent tax filing period of over $5,000 so they already had more than the $1,600 I was behind in. Guess what? I was told that since they "took" the money, it will eventually post to my account, but I do not get credit or consideration for making a payment. In other words, at that point I was still in arrears and even though they took the $5,000 my account was still accruing interest at a default rate of 12% despite the "payment" that brought me more than current.

See, when you are 10 months late on a student loan, the full amount becomes due and payable. Wages are affected (garnishable)and any Federal Tax refunds are affected as well.

Keep in mind that even when you ask any creditor to stop calling, do it in writing. Even then, if you really owe it (like a student loan) they will take the written request as proof you do not intend to pay.

Solutions:

1. Pay the debt, make payment arrangements.
2. If you can't and you are married, the IRS has an Injured Spouse Relief Form. This will allow you and your spouse to get "part" of any tax refunds due to you.
3. Enroll in a local Community College. Of course you will not qualify for new loans, but if the debtor is enrolled half-time (2 classes), you should qualify for an AUTOMATIC loan Forbearance. Delta Management did not tell me this was a possibility. Less than $200 to enroll in 2 classes locally and my employer reimbursed me.
4.Last resort contact one of those "tax places" to help negotiate something or file Chapter 13 for all debts and get an automatic forbearance.

I did option 3, filed the Injured spouse claim and I am back on track.
