I made a purchase through Amazon.com (for an item from a third party seller), and lo and behold, a few months later I received a letter from Express Response claiming that I had defaulted on a "payment," and could face the wrath of a collection agency. The customer service # in the letter is 1-866-441-4728, and when I called it turned out to be some ridiculous pre-recorded message saying I had won a cruise, and just had to pay $59 to cover "port fees." The next ph # mentioned in the message was 1-800-712-3000, which also turned out to be fishy. Do NOT give out any info, if you happen to talk to a live person. I plan on reporting this to the BBB.

these people / computer keeps call me at 3 AM, but no one is one the line. One of the numbers calling me is : 413.831.8402. however, when I call that number I get a recording saying the number has been changed to 800-712-3000. It seems to be some sort of automated 411 number, with no option to talk to a human. How do I get them to stop?

Here are the numbers that called me JUST in the past 3 days, dead air when I answered...upon calling them back most of them referred me to 800-712-3000. Some went to voice mail pretending to be a person but how is it that I get 4 UNKNOWN calls from 4 the same area code in 3 days? Some pretended to be legit companies but they all lead back to the same place. Caller ID gives only a city and a state....and of course the number. I OWE NO ONE.

I have a fraudulant charge on my credit card and the number listed for the company is 877-597-6900. When I call this number, a recording asks me to take advantage of a free Bahamas trip. After the recording is repeated the recording tells me to call 800-712-3000 if I have more questions not associated with the Bahamas trip. 800-712-3000 is some form of directory assistance. I'm calling my bank ASAP to remove the fraud charge!!

This 800 712 3000 phone number is the number the automated voice says when I called back a phone number that has been calling me over and over again, but not leaving any messages yet.

That phone number is 866- 887-8525.

I don't know who they are, but I think it may be some sort of scam.

This evening I tried to call a government 888 phone number (U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs) to pay a medical co-payment, and I dialed the 7-digit portion correctly, but by mistake used 800 instead for the area code portion, and so I dialed 1-800-827-4817.  Immediately, I got a message about having won an all expense paid trip to the Bahamas.  Instantly recognizing my mistake, I simply hung up.  But within probably 15 seconds or so, a return call came into my phone system.  There was no Caller ID, but this was probably because (even though I have a Digitone call blocker set to after hours mode) out of curiosity I picked up immediately when I saw the red light flashing, and heard a message about -- for more information, please call 800-712-3000.  I immediately hung up and decided to come here, to check it out as to what others are saying about this number.  I will be blocking this number from now on, which will immediately hang up on them and not ring any more into my system.

I have had to go to this method of call blocking after many scam calls even into my prepaid Tracfone.  I must say though that I love the Digitone call blocker, though it did cost slightly over $100, with shipping, but it has brought more peace to my life from these scam artists, precisely because it allows blocking calls by Wildcarding - that is, for you who are familiar with it from computer capabilities - it allows using a special character in any column of the phone number to block all digits in that column.  Thus, one can block the number itself, also all numbers in the last 2 columns for example for use where companies often use different extensions by varying the last digits of a phone number, or one can block even a whole area code or just the 3-digit prefix within an area code.  So it is very flexible.  One can even set up an friends & family VIP list of people who are allowed to call in anytime.  On the block list, if one runs up against the 80 number limit, that can even be extended by careful use of the wildcard character, thus freeing up more space, to continue blocking numbers.  Also one can use the after hours mode to not receive calls after 5pm for example (except for your VIP callers).  I know I sound like a salesman for them, but I really am not, just really happy with their Digitone Call Blocker 10.  The company is in Reno, NV and one can Google them.

This is, however, the first time I have noticed this with a U.S. Government phone number.  I will be mentioning this to the VA so that they can be aware of this and other veterans might not be scammed by misdialing.  Apparently, the post by JKONG (21 Mar 2012) on Pg. 1 of this forum, is probably correct that they are buying 800 numbers with the exact phone numbers of frequently called 888 numbers (or possibly vice-versa) in an attempt to "phish" for information on at least your phone number (remember, even if you have call blocking through AT&T or other company, if you call an 800 number even if you use *67 I believe your phone number is revealed, because they're paying).  So they at least get your phone number, just be careful not to give them any personal financial info over the phone.  Like some of the other people on this forum, I also have an unlisted number and am on the Do Not Call registry, but the Do Not Call registry doesn't seem to do much good, beause though it may keep legitimate telemarketers from calling (and that's a good thing), it has the problem I believe that companies can acquire the list, and if they are scammers or fraudulent companies, the list then provides the phone numbers they can use to intentionally violate the law and intent of the list in the first place.

Another thing I do, for my little Tracfone (since I don't have a smartphone), but it could probably be done there too, is to put the phone numbers of particularly troublesome callers to my cell phone in the address book with something like --
*Block - 800-712-3000 to remind me if it rings that I've previously had calls from a troublesome caller.  I understand the latest IPhone also has some kind of call blocker.

Hope this helps, sorry for the long post.

I got a call from a restricted number saying that they wanted to confirm my $200 order from Fairfax Cryobank (they said sperm bank). The woman, Karen or Caroline or something, was very professional and even "transferred me to her manager." I cancelled the order but they wanted to confirm that it was "really me" and read off my bank account number, my PIN, and my social security number (all of this happened around 10:30 pm on a weeknight). I asked for a number to call if I had anymore problems and they gave me 1-800-949-2796. I was in contact with my bank this morning and they said my debit card was hot carded. I called the Cryobank, which was not listed as matching the number I was given, and they said there was no record for me, so I called the number they originally gave me and it went on and on about a trip to the Bahamas with only $60 tax per person...blah blah blah...and gave me a new number, 1-800-712-3000. This number took me to Comcast. I don't know if it's connected, but all of my student accounts had the passwords changed by someone about an hour after the first call according to my school's IT department. And I got a text message from my own phone number saying I had to go to a verizon website or my account would be cancelled, but the website also said my account didn't exist. WHAT"S GOING ON???

Received an INTERCEPTED call- HACKING- that is what this is, when calling a credit card.  Tried to get me to touch any key on my phone to accept my free trip to the Bahamas; I was responsible for Port Fees only...  I looked up the 800-712-3000 number it gave me immediately after we hung up, Reverse information said the call came from near PORTLAND, Oregon.

Just had a phone call that I placed to a credit card intercepted with this scam....- Congrats!  You won a free trip to the Bahamas, all expenses paid, but you will be responsible for port taxes of $59.00 each.  It said press any key to complete your information, and if not interested- you will be forwarded to an operator shortly..., only it never transferred me.  It kept repeating the same message, probably hoping I would bump a button on my phone keypad.  I very carefully bumped nothing, then it gave me the 800-712-300 number and disconnected the call.  I know SOMEONE was hacked, either the credit card company I was calling, OR ME!  I wonder, has anyone that has had this kind of 'hit' has been a victim of identity fraud?

I looked it up on reverse numbers, said the call came out of a location NEAR Portland, Oregon.

I have been trying to get a hold of frigidaire, at 1800-944-9044. After several attempts to contact them , the # got routed to some other place.I dialed the eaxct # got frigidaire's automated system . After the 5th call to them, I did not reach frigidaire. Keep in Mind I have dialed the same eaxct # previously and was able to reach frigidaire. The automated system did not exisit and was replaced with a message stating "Congratulations i had won a free trip to the Bahammas"(5th call attempt). I tried the call again thinking I had reached the message in error. This time I reached a message stating the call was disconnected and to contact 1-800-712-3000.for assisance( 6th attempt). Again, I redialed, This time the message stated I won a $100 gift certificate to a major retailers, "Like walmart, press 1 to redeem the gift with c.c information" or dial 1-800-712-3000..I have no clue how this is happening. What is more puzzling I am calling on a land line that is unpublished and on dnc list.
