I am an attorney that is researching issues related to companies sending extended auto warranties/vehicle service contract solicitation letters. If you have received such a letter, which included information about a vehicle that you own, or have owned in the past few years, that includes the actual make.model and year of your vehicle, please send me a copy of the letter. I am gathering info at this time for research only to outline all the companies doing this, and the states in which they have sent letters. I am investigating the source of the data that is used to make up the mailer. Please email any additional documents received, notes about any telephone call, and contact me. All information and discussions shall remain confidential. I have been posting this info for general info and as an Attorney advertisement.

In order for you to understand my interest/work, and to provide material for you to understand issues involved in these matters, I have included materials for your review below. I note though that most data obtained to use for the mailers by these companies are obtained from legal sources.

So, after a little digging around, I found additional information about these scammers that keep sending me spam mail about my vehicle service contract with no return address and just the phone number 1-800-335-1522. Turns out these mailings are coming from a giant shell corporation scheme (countless associated phone numbers, doing business as names, etc.) with a large history of fraud and abuse.

I sent Dma the $1.00.  I found out this company is likely purchasing lists from your vehicle insurance company.  I believe Dma only polices companies that are registered with them.  Why do I know this?  The way my name is listed on their address label, my insurance company is the only source that prints my name as it appears.  So I called my insurance company's main office, they confirmed new or recent purchases are often sold in lists. I asked that they stop selling my name or information, received a letter confirming such.  Now this outfit is the only mail of this type I receive.

I just retired after 41-years in the automotive industry.  Majority with 3 major manufacturers. This company has and is a thorn in my side for many years. I even had a customer attempt to sue the manufacturer & their retailer concerning the scam this outfit continues to play. Fortunately, the judge recognized neither the manufacturer or the retailer were involved or at fault. Unfortunately the customer was out their money and held a worthless piece of paper.  I was able to extend goodwill to the customer for 80% of their repair cost and I was pleased the owner (still within the time, out by mileage a good bit) decided to purchase the extended service contract offered by the manufacturer.  Bottom line today - if you did not ask for information the mail, email or phone call is most likely a scam.

Independent service contracts are hard to acquire benefit or reimbursement. I STRONGLY suggest if you have the need for an extended service or maintenance contract contact the manufacturer of your vehicle/product. They will be there to help and already have an arrangement with your vehicle retailer's service department so reimbursement is much easier. In short the manufacturer will stand behind their extended contract, why?  They want you to come back for future business.

"In my case, I received mail from these scammers and the postal permit is from the Ft. Lauderdale, FL post office. Permit # 2257."

Same here (VA, 3/2013).  You can read the phone number by holding the paper up to bright sunlight or strong indoor light.  It says: "2nd attempt" (with no first attempt received).  It also has the warning $2000 fine blah blah in order to get the receiver's attention.

It appears they collect money from "suckers" for a car warranty and then they never pay out when you have a 'covered problem'.  More suckers must be paying for a fake warranty in order to pay for them to continue to mail these fraudulent mail pieces out.

Will it ever stop?  The post office is trying to cover a budget shortfall so they may not care either way what's in the mailing as long as that party is paying the postage bill.

Since they seem persistent the best approach is to form a coalition of shafted users and file a class action lawsuit against this company and it's principals.  This might require a website to collect the names of those suckers who have been shafted as a first step.

There was tv huckster who flim-flammed people for years until  a district attorney finally caught up with him in a class action lawsuit.  Faced with decades in jail for fraud - he comitted suicide.  He was quite famous for awhile too.

It's all fun until the posse catches up with you.

You can obtain the name of the company from the post office. Make a copy of the mail solicitation they sent
you and write a letter to the post master at the post office and zipcode on the preprinted postage area on the mail solicitation they sent you.  Put in your letter that you received mail from a commercial business that has a U.S. Postage Permit at their post office and you need the owner / registered person's name , address, etc. that opened the business [postage permit. It being a commercial business , the post office is required to tell you the owner of the postal permit, physical address, phone number, etc.

In my case, I received mail from these scammers and the postal permit is from the Ft. Lauderdale, FL
post office. Permit # 2257.
I will be sending a letter to the Ft. Lauderdale post office with a copy of the junk mail I received and ask for
the info on the permit that was used as postage to send the junk to me. I then will call then have their info to file official complaints to the FTC. and Postal Inspectors.

Actually it is a valid code. See http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1702?quicktabs_8=1#quicktabs-8
but is about stealing mail from a post office. But they do try to trick you into thinking that it "official" mail.

Anyone who works with U.S. codes would take notice that there is no section/sub-section of code referenced on the front of this piece of mail.  This is a tipping point as to this being a fraudulent piece of work.   I'll do what I can to get this "company" reported.
