Received a call from 800 789-8045. Could barely understand the guy - he said we needed to call back and ask for Officer something or other. He made very little sense. Once we called back, we got a recording. They also phoned yesterday and spoke with my daughter, said something would happen to my husband if we didn't call back. A real joke.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Prank Call
The same thing just happened to me.  He told me I had three threats against me and when I got my husband he started to yell at us.  I told him I was pregnant and hanging up, he said he would be sending a US Marshall to my house...at 5:30 on a Saturday night to come take me to prison.  I am thinking about calling the police because I found it very threatening.  Especially when I told the guy I was very pregnant and did not have time for this.

Two calls in two days telling me I'm going to have legal consequences if I don't call back. They are very difficult to understand due to their extremely thick accents. This has to be some sort of scam. Absolutely ridiculous, called local authority and they said there is a scam going on not to give any personal information out..I said it was bad enough they have my phone number and name!!!

Got msg saying that FBI was coming to arrest me in 3 days because of an IRS complaint about back taxes for last 4 years 2010 to 2013. I knew this was total BS because firstly there is no tax issue outstanding and I received no notices from the IRS. Secondly, the FBI does not call you to say they are coming to arrest you (idiot).  Caller described himself as FBI Officer Warren not Agent Warren.  I called back the number with a friend on the line also and asked for this Officer Warren who did not seem to exist since they could not put him on the line. After warning the person who answered about the penalties for impersonating an officer or a federal agent they hung up.  I can only imagine the ones they get away with since this can cause such angst and fear for others.

I received a call from a "private" number and let the call go to voice mail. The caller, who had a very heavy accent, was calling from a horrible connection. He said his name was officer Alex brown from the federal investigation office and said there was a federal complaint against my boyfriend. He needed to call back or something will happen at his residence or place of business. He gave the call back number the first time but messed it up then repeated himself with the above number. I think these creeps go through public records to try to scare and scam people! I've already reported this threat to the police! Don't fall for it!

Had these people call and leave a message.  800-789-8045

ABsolutely a scam

They had my phone info lookup from my return call - and my name and address.  All public record - no big deal.

Same as all of the other reports - 3 charges against me, officers coming to arrest me, pay them cash to settle.

I called the FBI.  Big scam.

They called me back next day.  More high pressure.  I played with him.  Told him nobody ever called me - I liked to talk to him.  I asked what he was wearing - he didn't like that. Eventually he hung up on me.

I can see them pressuring less informed folks into paying.  Very sad - should be prosecuted.

Prank Call
Just got this call from Officer John Smith (too bad he had such an Indian accent I couldn't understand him) after repeating 3 times (because I couldn't understand what he was saying. Asked me to hold to transfer to his supervisor. Then Officer James Smith (also an Indian accent but not as bad) explained to me that I had 3 complaints against me with the Federal Crimes and Investigation. One was theft by deception, and another for something with taxes. And I had 2 choices I could pay out of court (I guess he was going to give me an amount) and the other was to hire a lawyer and go to court, risk being arrested, paying $25000 and going to jail. When I said "It's strange I haven't been notified by mail or sheriffs department" He got loud and rude. He said "DO YOU THINK i'M LYING TO YOU?" When I said YES.  Said "Then hire a lawyer, you're going to be arrested" and hung up.  Not sure what the scam is...but definitely a scam of some kind to get your money (out of court) lol
This is a scam right

Call originates from some sewer in India!!!, what a scam, never thought that "Officer Mike Miller" from the "Federal Crime Investigation Department" would have such a  thick H1B-Visa accent!!!. This department is so secret, not even the Federal Government knows about it :-). This would be funny, but its clogging my voice mail inbox. :-p

I got a call from this number too. The message wasn't clear and the person who spoke had a thick accent wish made it difficult to understand half of what he said. I called the number back and it's sound like it's been disconnected.

I received a call and a voicemail message from this number saying that they are calling about a Federal crime that was reported against me and I needed to call Officer Alex Brown back before something happens at my residence or my place of business.  I have also filed a report with the police because the message was very threatening.
