Why are these gangsters allowed to run roughshod on society?

I mean nobody else does this other than phone scamming criminals.

I agree, these bandits need to be in prison.

I receive the same calls from this collection agency on a new cell phone.  They leave voice mails for some strange name to call them about a debt owed.  Have registed my number on the national do not call register, but it has not helped!  They are pests and keep calling.  Any suggestions will be appreciated

Earlier in 2009 I bought a number on Skype to use as an IP phone number for incoming calls to my business.

A few months, the calls from this agency started arriving for Stephen E. Lambert (or something like that). Most of the messages were of the "if you are not Stephen E. Lambert, stop listening" variety. But one came through that gave a phone number to call back if it was not reaching the intended recipient.

I just called that number.

After a standard welcome message, I stayed on the line and was greeted with a tentative "hello?" from a young man.

I explained the situation. Gave him the number that was being called, and he said he would try to take it off the list.

We'll see how it goes.

I was receiving about one call per week.

Just got a call today from these people. It was an automated number asking for a woman with the same first name as me but a completely different last name. Then, it said if you are not that person, to stop listening as the info they were about to give was "private". They then said they were a debt collector and to call them back at this number.  I believe they are really "Allied Inter State Collection". Those slimeballs attempted to collect a medical debt which I "did not owe" for over 5 years, then the calls stopped for 2 years but started up again 6 months ago.  I believe that what they hope you do is to call them back to tell them your not "Sally Smith" but your name is actually "Sally (your real name)."

Received a call from 1-800-832-8587 with a message left on my answering machine for a Daniel Dunn.  Never heard of the man.  Said they were a debt collection agency.  Called them and told them no Daniel Dunn at this number, to take my number off their calling list and not to call me again. This is not the first time they have called my home phone.

They called my house and asked for my wife by her maiden name. Sad is we have been married for over 9 years so why are they calling her by her maiden name. Even more mysterious I do not know how they got my phone number cause her name is mine, and has been for over 9 years. This company is bogus on what they are doing.

This is Asset Acceptance and they are unscrupulous bill collectors. They call from 804-234-9038 and if you stay on the line the message is for you to call Laura James from Asset Acceptance at 1-800-832-8587, They called looking for someone who had my land line telephone # back in 2003. I have told them all this several years back.  They are notorious for attempting to collect fictitious bills or already paid bills. They try to set up payment with access to the person'c checking account and the bill will NEVER be paid off.  They should be prosecuted and put out of business. I'll be filing a complaint with the Florida Attorney General.

I am Jason's wife and have received several of these phone calls during the day when he is at work.  I came online because they never have a call back number and on the answering machine the number is always cut off.  My husband has no idea what this is for and there is no unresolved debt on his credit report when we checked 2 weeks ago.

Recording - "Laura James" says that by continuing to listen you acknowledge that you are "Corey G Lavic", which of course is ridiculous.  It's a tactic to get people to call back...they figure people will call to let them know they have a wrong #.  I just ignore it.

I've been getting calls from 800-832-8587 for a couple weeks now on my cell. Normally if I don't recognize the number, I let it go to voice mail. I check my voice mail, and it tells me it's looking for me, but the name they're using is my former married name. A name I haven't used in over 10 years. I already had a good indication that this was a scam, so I Googled the number and it brought me straight here. I'm glad that other people are aware. Now I know I have a good basis for giving them a good scare. I work for attorneys. I'll make them wet themselves the next time they call. :)

Unfortunately, Debt Collectors are exempt from the "Do Not Call" registry.

They are governed under the laws of the FTC, which administers the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act):

http://www.creditinfocenter.com/legal/FDCPA.shtml

The only way to stop them from calling is to send them a Cease Communication letter VIA Certified mail. Be sure to request a return receipt and keep copies of everything. If they continue to call after you have written proof they recived it, they can face fines of up to $1,000.00 PER violation.

Go to this website, which contains some good examples of Cease Communication letters for you to use (depending on your particular situation). Just fill in the blanks:

Same deal as above.
I went over to the Federal Do Not Call registry and filed a complaint.

https://www.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx

Seems like there should be enough complainers if we all did this to get the Feds to look into them.

Bud Says...

ONE OF AMERICA'S WORST COLLECTION AGENCIES!

****CONSUMER NOTICE***
ARE YOU A VICTIM OF ASSET ACCEPTANCE CORP? HAVE YOU BEEN SUED BY THEM? WAS A JUDGMENT OBTAINED? ARE YOUR WAGES BEING GARNISHED, BANK ACCOUNT LEVIED? IF SO, PLEASE GET IN CONTACT WITH ME.

Asset Acceptance Corp. (AAC) is a publicly traded company. (Nasdaq: AACC)

They purchases old portfolios of mostly worthless charged-off accounts for pennies on the dollar. Once owned, they appear to inflate the value of the portfolio, send out dunning notices and try to collect at a ridiculous profit.

Don't be surprised if you notice the date of last activity on your credit report, as stated by AAC is WRONG! Deliberately changing the date of last activity is a way to scam consumers into thinking they are entitled to money they would not legally be allowed to collect.

This is standard procedure for them -- from "re-aging" the debt on the credit history, to suing on what is probably a statute of limitations claim, to reneging on a written promise.

Watch out for the mystery $50-$75 payment you didn't' make  that magically revives the account. When pressed, they claim to do an investigation and "discover" that they made a "clerical error" and mistakenly posted someone else's payment to your account.

NOTHING this 'House of Cons' does should be believed or taken at face value. They have proven over and over they are liars and thieves!

Under federal law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) an account may ONLY stay on a credit report for seven years. One of the cons being used by Asset Acceptance is to claim you made a $50 payment, which would have re-started that clock. Unfortunately this is a 'bogus-claim' by AAC, is illegal and violates your rights.

Asset Acceptance Corp has earned the distinction of one of "AMERICA'S WORST COLLECTION AGENCY'S". They lie, steal, cheat, misrepresent, file bogus claims, create phony documents and commit perjury in the court system JUST to increase their bottom line.
