My ex husband received a phone call from these people saying that I need to return the call as it is a serious matter........... I called the number back and they tried to tell me that I had a payday loan that I owe 370 dollars for and that this was an attempt to collect a debt.... That I would be brought up on charges for check fraud if I didnt pay it............... I told them to send me a written document showing me the validity of the debt..... They told me they would email me and that I had 24 hours to respond............... I called the company that they say I owe and that company said they have no record of filing litigation against me for any form of debt......... They dont do that and they just send any unpaid balances to collections not for fraud or litigation.......... I am now going to report them to the BBB and see where it goes from there......... I am not worried about being arrested though..........

@DmacK: I did some research after I had a similar call from "RSA" . Different caller id#, same callback#. Behind that set of numbers is a company called, variously' "Steven Einstein and Associates//MCR//MRC Receivables" . Info and comments at web site "Ripoff reports" were enlightening; an example:

"Steven Einstein and Associate are CON artists posing as a law firm. They are somehow associated with another fraudulent credit collection agency called MRC/MCR Receivables Corporation. ... Steven Einstein and Associates files lawsuits against unsuspecting people in an attempt to collect debts that do NOT exist!
... a genuine scam by Einstein and Associates and MRC/MCR Receivables. You must be aware of their practices to prey on people with poor or no credit."

If the have writ then that's sent out by the court NOT by these morons. WRIT written court order (they need proof to get a writ) Ask them for written proof of the debt and don't take NO for an answer

"Greg Maddox"? The retired ace pitcher for the Atlanta Braves? They are obviously getting desperate and running out of names.

Message said they were calling about a "deception against me in relation to my social security number."  Said it was "imperative that I call on this time-sensitive matter."

I too, have been receiving threats from this "jack-leg" company as well.  Any company that refuses to give you a first and last name of the person that you are contacting is suspect.  They also told me that I was in no position to negotiate due to a charged off debt from my prior marriage dating back to 2008 and 2009.  I was in the collections game for years, and I am here to blow the whistle.  Even if they have part of a social, they can use very powerful software to contrive and manipulate data to their advantage.  Their website looks credible, and those are the one's that you have to watch for.  My parents, upoin returning from a vacation were told that I had a legal matter that required my immediate attention.  When I contacted the office, they refused to put anything in writing.  That is the "tell-tale" sign of a rinky-dink operation.  If the company that you have a debt from does all the question asking, but refuses or is hesitant to answer your qualifying questions, then HANG UP.  Call a lawyer, and notify the Better Business Bureau.  This group of jokers in Atlanta, GA has not ever once answered a single solitary complaint levied against them.  Remember, even if the debt is legitimate or outdated, you still have right under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  Say nothing, do all the listening, and tell them to simply, "Put it in writing."  Save yourself the anxiety and headache associated with empty threats and intellectual bullying.  Ta ta.  BP

These people are scammers! They called me at my mother's house where they tried to scare her into providing my information. Thank goodness my mother had enough sense not to divulge any info, and called me immediately! Upon calling them I was transferred to a Mr. Carter who proceeded to tell me that I had a payday loan which was never paid on Jan 2008 (total lie, I would NEVER apply to ANY of these type of things), and that I am now being accused of check fraud  I advised Mr. Carter that I work for an attorney, and to please fax over docket numbers/motions filed, etc. on this matter..he got upset and down right refused to send anything, stating that he could not because he wasnt even sure who he was actually speaking too....what bull!!!!! they want to sue me go right ahead Mr. Carter...Im not as dumb as you may think I am...and sure's hell DO NOT SCARE EASILY!

These people keep calling my moms house claiming that they are going to send me to jail and that I have 24 hours to respond.  They also claim to be from a county (in ohio) that I used to live in (to sound local I guess) ... they had called the first time in July and left a very detailed message on my moms machine ... really wish I could have saved that one ... ever hear the word hippa ?

This company also uses the phone number 770-872-0526. They claimed that I was involved in check fraud (which I've never done in my life), and that they were filing a writ in my county. Of course, they couldn't tell me which kind "writ" they were filing. I told them to go ahead, and my attorney would handle it. They asked me if I understood that this is a serious matter. I told them of course it would be, had I done anything of the sort. Idiots!
