Im sorry Frank, but you are incorrect. They CANNOT garnish your social security if it is within a certain amount. Typical SS is under $1,000 or mainly in the range of $600, which makes you in the poverty level and THEY CANNOT GARNISH YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY.  Now if you make way more, possibly. But your general social security, be it SSI or SSD, if it is within the typical amount within the range of the $6 to 700 range, they cannot.

Got a call from this phone number on 4/16/12.   They said I was listed as my first (2005) boyfriend's sister.  We are both only children, and I haven't spoken to him in at least three years.  They would give me no information on why they were calling except that I was "listed as a reference."  When I said I highly doubted he would use me as a reference, I was told that HE didn't list me, I was just listed as a reference.

I received a voice mail to call 800-889-6321 from Azel at ext 1206.  Azel said he was calling for verification of employment for a Richard Burdy for the US Dept of Education. I called back told him, that no one under that name has worked here in the 7 1/2 years I've been here.  He tried to give me the social but I kept telling him no one under that name works here. He hung up rather quickly and aburptly.  

I looked up the 800 on the search engine to discover it is a collection agency.  I'm pissed because this person indicated he was working for US Dept of Educations.  That wrong!  I wish I saved the voice mail now.

Got a call from Will Parsons.  Stated I have a federal debt from year 2001.  Supposely received letters in the mail. Not. And had my birthday wrong.  Wanted my social security number.  No chance. Told Will not to call me again.

This apparent collection agency called my number, in error, at 8:51AM on 05/18/11. I have blocked any further calls from them.

This woman named Tonia knight called said  she needed to speak to the payroll dept for possible garnishment.  1- she did not give the name of the company and 2- If she was legit ( wich she isnt) she would know my office is covered under a corporate office.  She said she is federally mandated not to disclose any more information to me when i inquired.  She gave me the phone number as stated above and extention also a reference number.  Hey we all got debt and skeletons in our closets and we are good people .. My best advice is if this person was real you would have  letters recieved at your home because people they can find you if they want to.

Today Jean Brown called and said she was from FMS and was looking for "Tom B*****a." Tom is my ex-wife's husband, who I have not seen since my daughter's HS graduation in 2002, and with whom I have never had any relationship of any kind.  She left this number and asked me to have "Tom" call her.  This is some weird s***.

I got a text message from these people today. It said simply PLEASE CALL!!!.

I do not get free text messages! Now I'm paying for them to hassle me for a loan they have no jurisdiction to collect!

Furious and I don't know where to turn to.

I have been getting these calls late in the evening but since I don't have a voice mail I refuse to answer.  There is no ID, just the 800 number.  I have no outstanding student loans, in fact, I have no debt at all.  My routine credit reports show no activity.  How do I report this and nail these guys??

I have received multiple calls from this company regarding "A Federal Business Matter".  The first few times I ignored them and then I got tired of receiving calls so I called them back and they wanted my SS#, I wouldn't give it to them and they hung up.  After a few more messages from them I called the BBB and the calls stopped for a few months.  I got another one today that they had a recommendation in their office.  I recognized the number so I called them back (800-889-6321 x1281 Izzy).  He could not find my file based on my phone # or name even though he had just called me.  They were looking for someone named Jeffrey about a student loan(I am not Jeffrey, nor do I know anyone named Jeffrey) even though he left my name on the message.  I order to find my file he needed my SS#, once again that's where the call ends.

What government agency is in charge to process these predators?

received call from them at 7.07 pm on Tuesday, August 18th, 2009. They apparently are looking for somebody else. I wasnt even at home at this point and since I don't owe anybody money I will ignore unless they start harassing me.

Received a call asking for my ss#. I told them I wouldn't give it to them and they said to spell my last name. I told them I didn't feel comfortable with that and asked the nature of the call. They said they would tell me once I spelled my last name. Said I wouldn't and he proceeded to to tell me he had all the info. On me and repeated my number. Asked again for the natue of the call and he got kind of rude and said if I wouldn't give him this info. He would hang up and to stop wasting his time. He hung up. I called back and a diff. Person took the call. I asked for the nature of their bus. And he said he could see it was me and if I wouldn't give them my info. They wouldn't give me theirs and they hung up. Called back again and the # is no longer in service. TOTAL SCAM. I haven't received any letters or anything.

I hate to inform you of this but the federal gov can attach your social security, if the bill you owe is to the federal government this includes student loans the irs money owed to the va any money owed to the federal gov can be attached up to 25% of your check.

I got to work today and found that FMS had left a message on the answering machine at 7:21 a.m. (which I KNOW is against the law!), and AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT! Thank God my boss wasn't in yet!
I immediately googled the number and saw who it was from.
I too, had a defaulted student loan from over 15 yrs ago! It's not even on my credit report anymore, so I don't understand why they keep calling.
I did ask my lawyer about wage garnishment and he said that the only way they can do a garnishment is if they have a COURT ORDER to obtain one. Which I KNOW this collector doesn't have. I used my cell phone and recorded the message he left on the answering machine, for future reference. And, I just wrote them a cease and desist letter and am mailing it out today (certified w/return receipt). You can get a copy of the letter on the net. Just google it.
Let's stop these idiots from ruining our reputations. We feel enough shame for defaulting on our student loans-- we don't need to have it rubbed in our faces. Esp. in front of fellow employees!

These people call everyone in the country with the same name as a debtor.  They do not care who pays the bill, even innocent people who are intimidated. I let them waste their time making calls to me.  I never answer the phone unless a decent message is left on my recorder.  Things like "This is Martha big tits.  I have something important to tell you. call back."  are not decent.  If they had something important to say, they can leave it on the answering machine.

Some time back a person with a name almost like mine and living in the same town stopped paying for his car.  I suspect it was because he died in a crash with it.  A whole series of debt collection agencies have been bothering me over the last few years.  I never return their calls because on the first one I had a special outgoing message that I was not the person they wanted.  Later they mailed me a bill and that is how I found out about the car.

Hey, I got one call from this number and I put a stop to it.  Go to http://www.youmail.com and set up an account.  With that service you can block any number and you can even block call without a number listed in your caller ID.

Oh, by the way "Some Dude" get lost.  I have no idea whey these folks are calling me.  But I DO pay all of my bills on time. Loser.  Don't jump to conclusion you moron.

Thank you very much for the address for these people! After putting my job in jeopardy from the sheer volume and aggressiveness of their calls, I asked Mr.Elvis Vasquez to send me a bill so that I could get help thru a Consumer Credit Counseling place with this and other bills.  He wanted to know why I needed a bill (he was very rude in how he asked that, stating that I should know what bills I have and that if I paid them, I wouldnt need this).  I told him that is what the counselor told me to get, not only from his company, but from all my creditors, and that until I had that info, the Counseling place would not help. To this day I havent received anything in writing from this company--though they continue their aggressive and scary tactics to get me to pay them over the phone.

Received a phone call from a Mr. Brown - very ugly - wanted me to verify my social security number over the phone and I would not do it.  He wouldn't even give me the social so I could say if it was mine or not.  Very unprofessional.

The company they are referring to is scum and should be stopped.  I recently had dealings with them trying to do the right thing and take care of a student loan now that my family is doing better financially. I was treated like scum and treated like I was not worth their time but only for money.  However by the tone of your message and post name you sound like an overgrown child with the mentality of a bill collector.  The only one BITCHING on this blog is you sorry uneducated A**.  Grow up DUDE, Better yet let us know when you?re Nuts drop or just grow some.

Yep. This is pretty typical. I remember several years ago I was making regular payments to my student loans through a collection agency. When I changed jobs I contacted the US Dept of Education to notify them of my new information and that I would continue to pay. They replied: "We have no record of a payment from you for quite some time." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Since then I have been paying them directly, but to this day nobody can tell me where my $4200 went. Live and learn I guess.

Yeah...these folks call me a lot...mostly while I'm at work.  I think its for a hospital bill.  The lady said it was extremely urgent...she said her name was Kaylene Peters.  She said her direct number was 800-889-6321 at extention 103.  Ugh...don't they know that if I haven't payed a bill, its not because i just don't want to...smh.
