Rec'd a call from "Morgan Witter" earlier this afternoon-stated loan was approved, but to give them time to work out interest (between 6 & 10%) and monthly repayment schedule and to call them back around 4pm.  I will play their game and return the call.  There is a BBB page for them that was just opened, however, not yet any registered complaints.  Also, the address they have listed, I was able to find, but it doesn't mean this company is located there.  There has to be a way to find these scammers and put an end to all of this.

My husband and I were a victim of this company also. We sent $900.00 plus the money gram fee to this company to receive our $10,000.00 loan, when we did not receive the money in our account we called and as stated in the contract they wanted another 4 months up front as our credit is bad. so we sent another $900.00 plus the fee to them, never received any money, we reported them to the Arizona police dept as that is where they were supposedly located, but the address on the web site does not even exist. they are in Canada, I have saved ALL documents from the company and have done a lot of my own research, if anyone would like to team up with me to catch these people, I have access to a lot of inside info with kind of work I do, everyone should come together, to catch them. Arizona had to close the case and I was told to now call Canada and report them, I want to have as much info as possible. if interested in helping or forming a GROUP to catch them email me at Angeloveatl@yahoo.com. My name is Nikki. My husband and I are a young couple with two children we needed this money to try to get a new vehicle. now instead we are out $1900.00, no money left and no new car. LETS FIND THESE RIP OFF PEOPLE AND PUT THEM BEHIND BARS!!!

they allmost had me too, told me i needed to pay first 4 payments and then i would only owe 20 more payments. these people are crooks MAJOR crooks. i never sent them any money but they do have my personal info which has me ticked. they are making alot of money off poor people and it makes me sick to my stomach. there is no buissness in AZ for Morgan Witter. even if you have great credit they will still ask for advance payments. they said they would give me the money without even asking for a social security # right there should raise a flag. my advice is STAY AWAY!. if you allready sent them money you will never get it back..and i feel sorry for you

I am so glad I researched this company.  Like many people I was in a desperate financial situation with not great credit and came across Morgan Witter.  Russell Jones called me and left me a message and I did return the call but did not hear from him for about 2 weeks and now he won't stop bothering me.  Unfortunately these companies prey on people who can't get traditional loans and count on our desperation.  It is very suspicious that a loan company would ask for a down payment on a loan before giving you the money.  I was directed to Morgan Whitter when I was looking to refinance my current car loan.  Something about it always made me uncomfortable and I should have known it was too good to be true when I received the message that I was approved.  I will stay away from Internet lenders because you never know what you are getting. Anything that seems to good to be true usually is.

THIS WEBSITE IS A SCAM TO GET YOU TO SEND MONEY TO THEM FOR A LOAN******** DON'T DO IT!!!!! IT'S THE SAME PEOPLE FROM GLENWOOD LENDING GROUP!!!!!!!!!!! READ WHAT HAPPEN TO ME FROM THE SAME PEOPLE USING ANOTHER COMPANY'S NAME BELOW. THERY ARE THE SAME PEOPLE! DONT SEND THEM ANY MONEY! YOU WILL NEVER GET THE LOAN! HERE IS THE WEBSITE! THEY SHUT THE LAST WEBSITE AND PHONE DOWN AND I NEVER SAW MY MONEY AGAIN! TRUST ME! PLEASE READ BELOW!

HERE IS THE NEW SCAM WEBSITE:

http://www.morganwitterlending.com/index.html

After reading all these various complaints with the Glenwood Lending Group I know I too have also been scammed. I just didn't catch enough red flags in time or see enough signs. Your site (credit.com) was sent to me by a good friend who works with the consumer department. I wish I had checked beforehand but sometimes desperation to take care of debt and bills pushes aside patience and research. This is definitely a lesson learned and I will process my complaint via the site my friend suggested (I will note it at the end), the Better Business Bureau (funny, Glenwood's info is no longer posted as of 03/30/09), and any other suggested sites. Here too is my story:

I have been seeking a loan for the last 2 months to help pay off my auto loan. I searched various sites online and applied for secured and unsecured personal loans. Some loans were with banks directly and others with lending groups that help you find loans.

I received a callback from one of the lending groups, Glenwood Lending Group, out of New Jersey (888-314-3204). I spoke with a Ruben Lopez (X165) who indicated to me they had found a lender who would offer me a $8,000 secured loan for 48 months at a 7% fixed interest rate. The only requirement was an initial payment due to my bad credit history. He indicated five (5) initial payments of $190 (totaling $950) were required but the payments would go towards my loan as loan payments therefore receiving positive credit in my credit history. For the other loan requirements, I could make higher monthly payments at my leisure or pay off the loan early without inquiring any penalties. He also indicated that I would not start payments on my loan until 6 months later due to the initial payment and a 30-day grace period.

At this time, I researched Glenwood Lending Group via the Better Business Bureau website and their profile listed no complaints but also no other information on them other than an address and phone number. They had a "F" rating due to there wasn't enough information on them to rate them properly.

Ruban faxed me the loan agreement to review, I asked questions to make sure I understood everything, I was satisfied with the answers and the agreement, so I signed and faxed the agreement back. He called me the next day to inform me that the lender agreed to remove one (1) payment and I could pay $760 towards the loan instead of $950. I requested to have the loan agreement redone so there was no confusion. I agreed I could handle four (4) payments instead, and Ruben indicated he would provide me the instructions for sending the money after I faxed back the signed agreement. He indicated once the transaction was processed and the money was received via a Moneygram confirmation number, the lender would release the money to my bank account within 24 hours.

The fax was sent back and Ruban provided me the following information for sending the money:

1. Moneygram ONLY:

Ruban indicated the transaction would cost me $40-$60. He said if the fee was anything less, it was incorrect. He said cost to send the money would be put towards my loan and my first monthly payment would be minus this cost.)

2. Receiving Country: CANADA
3. City: Willowbrook, Ontario
4. Receiver: Caroline Manning

I was instructed to list a person's name rather than a business name because if the transaction was associated it with a business name, I would be charged an expensive cost to send the money.

This is probably the point where I should have caught on to it being a possible scam.)

5. Amount To Be Sent:

03/12/09: $760 (initial loan pay't) + $48 (Moneygram) = $808.00
03/16/09: $760 (initial loan pay't) + $48 (Moneygram) = $808.00

6. Receive Options: MoneyGram Location
7. Sender: My name, address and phone number.
8. Reference/Transaction#s: 78775561 (03/12/09); 84988224 (03/16/09)

I went to Shaw's Supermarket in Porter Square, Cambridge MA on March 12, 2009 and I completed a transaction to the Glenwood Lending Group via Connie Manning for $760. I received a receipt and confirmation (Ref# 78775561) and I contacted Ruban Lopez of the transaction. He indicated he would turn me over to the accounting department, handled by Terry Evans (X731) to complete the process, and that also since it was so late in the day I should receive the funds the next morning (March 13th). He said if I had any problems to contact him in the morning. I then spoke with Terry Evans, we reviewed my agreement, he indicated I would receive a package and a payment booklet. I requested to have the funds deposited into my account rather than receiving a check and provided my bank information (routing number/checking account#). Terry informed me I would receive the funds in my account within 24 hours and to contact him with any questions.

I checked my account the next morning and then called my bank to see if a deposit to my account was pending and they indicated there wasn't. I contacted Ruban Lopez to express concern of the deposit, he was concerned as to why I hadn't received the money and said he would further investigate the situation. He asked me to call him back in 10-15 minutes if I hadn't heard back from him within that time. I didn't hear back so I called him back. This time was different because Ruban would always answer the phone but this time he didn't. I made several attempts to no avail. I preceded to contact Terry Evans of the accounting department to find out the status of the deposit and at the time he indicated to me that Ruban Lopez was no longer handling my account.

At this time, Terry indicated that the lender decided after re-accessing my credit history that they wanted an initial four (4) more payments to put on the loan since it was a sizable loan request. I expressed that I was guaranteed the loan and couldn't understand why. He indicated that it is stated in my loan agreement that the lender is allowed one time to reaccess and determine if they want to approve the loan or request additional payments. He said if I made the additional payment they could not reaccess again and t hey had to guarantee me the loan automatically. He said if I wanted a refund of my initial payment plus the cost to send the money via Moneygram he would issue the refund. He said it would be issued on March 28th (their pay period cycle date) and I would receive the refund as a certified bank check via overnight express. I was frustrated by this time due to my deadline with my car loan so I told Terry I would think about it and he indicated to let him know as soon as I could. At this point, I was going to end it and not go through with it but my car was a major concern so I was willing to try one more tactic and if it worked I would proceed.

I contacted my uncle on March 15th and after a lengthy conversation he was willing to loan me the money, so the next day (March 16, 2009) I contacted Terry that I had the additional money and he guaranteed me I would receive the funds in three (3) hours directly to my checking account since this was all that was left to do. I went back to Shaws in Porter Square, Cambridge MA and made another $760 transaction via Moneygram to the same person (Caroline Manning) and the same information noted above then contacted Terry Evans with the reference number (Ref# 84988224). He said I was all set and to keep an eye out for the deposit within 3 hours. 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours went by and still no deposit. By this time my bank was closed and transactions were closed so I had to wait until the next morning. I contacted Terry first thing the next morning on March 17th and indicated I did not receive the funds. He said he would look into it and call be back in an hour or so. I contacted Terry after a couple of hours and he indicated the lending bank had pulled out on my loan and decided they didn't want to give me the loan. Terry indicated to me he had another lending group that was willing to give me a $10K loan but required more money and I said "absolutely not" and refused. I told him if he could not find me another lending company with the initial payment I had already made by Friday, March 20th I did not want to pursue any further and wanted my money refunded. He then indicated he would search for another lending company for me based on what I had already put down and would contact me.

We went back and forth for the last four (4) days up until March 20th and at that time I informed Terry I did not want to pursue a loan any longer and wished to have a refund issue. He informed me he would process the refund which would be mailed out via overnight express on Friday, March 28th and I would receive sometime between 10AM and 3PM on Saturday, March 29th. I requested a overnight tracking number and he indicated he could not provide me one because the refund is issued via another department and everything is done by automation so the tracking number would not reach me in time (I would already receive the refund). I expressed this didn't make any sense and a person is always given a tracking number to track a package but he kept on insisting any problems I could reach him.

Saturday, March 29th I remained home the entire day because I was not feeling well and the overnight package never came. I could not contact their office over the weekend because they are closed. I spoke with a friend over the weekend about my situation and she referred me to the Cambridge Consumer Affairs Department to see if I could get any assistance on my complaint.

Today, March 31st I made two (2) attempts to contact Terry Evans regarding my refund. The first attempt I left a voicemail message expressing concern and the status of the refund. I also went back to the Better Business Bureau site to obtain their information again but their listing is no longer. I remember they were out of Plainsfield or Plainsville, NJ. I believe that the information is listed on my paperwork but that may not even matter anymore at this point.

I heard from the same company, "Morgan Witter Lending".  It seems they are trying to market off the Morgan Stanley name.  Someone named "Mr. Russell Jones" called to say I was approved for a loan, if only I would send $1000.00 to "Mrs. Caroline M. Jefferies" in Alberta, Canada first.

I'd love to hear how many other people have had similar contact with them, and if any regulatory agency is doing something about it.

I received a call today from a "Rosco Jones" that I would have my file reveiwed so that he could find the lowest rates for me.  He said that I should call him back tomorrow and he should have an answer for me.  I will call tomorrow and see what he says and let you guys know.  I am so glad that I looked up this information before proceeding.  I would have not given any money upfront before getting a loan, but I can't imagine somebody else that's in my shoes trying to get a loan and then being ripped off!  These people should be prosecuted!  What a bunch of scammers!

They did the same thing to me. Approved me for $15k loan. Asked for 4 paymtnes which I sent via moneygram to a Canada location. Gave them my bank routing number so they can deposit the money, but have not seen it yet. That was on April 1, 2009.  I keep calling and nobody returns my calls.

Approved me for a $15,000 dollar loan, putting 4 payments down. I was advised that this is illegal for them to be doing this. No loan should require a down payment.  So it is a SCAM . Once I called him on it - Andrew Burke - he advised he would close my file. Hung up.  TOTAL SCAM!! I can't believe our government is not helping people who are victim to this. We are all struggling to make ends met.

I have had the same experience.  Can find nothing legit about this group at all.  Google earth shows the address in the middle of nowhere.  Could be a shop front but really really looks unlikely.  They are not a registered corp in AZ and that's enough for me.

Also - the receptionist at the Arizona Dept. of Financial Institutions knew the name immediately and said she had received a number of calls about them.

Beware.  Period.

This is a loan company called Morgan Witter Lending, I am pretty sure it is a scam company, because I can not find anything on them, and they are not listed with the Better Business Bureau.  There is no match for the address they give in Scottsdale, AZ.
