Isn't it odd that all posts seem to recognize USAA? Wonder if the same people recognize OCWEN? But, are called and harassed as USAA, under Ocwen's predatory reminder call policy. Cowards!

Ricy, you doing a little shill work under this number? What's you're reference that it's a USAA number. I do know OCWEN Loan Servicing LLC likes to do some acts of predation using USAA's name.

Initial caller id was spoofed (it's easy). Called the number left on voicemail, had legitimate USAA prompts (nicely recorded), and was very quickly forwarded to Armando, the exact same guy who left me the voicemail (what are the odds!).  He knew my basic info - name, phone number, address (all available online), but nothing else. When he started probing to get my more detailed information & it quickly became obvious that it was a scam, I hung up on him.

You guys are all retarded.  If you look at the number they originally call from, it is USAA's number advertised on their website.  They give you the number to one of their customer service departments.  If you did anything on USAA's website, such as a quote, or another type of service, and did not complete it, they usually call to see if they can help you with what ever you were trying to do.  The number is not a scam.  I called this number the other day and they were asking about a quote for insurance that I recently inquired about.  They shouldn't ask you for any personal information like your password (obviously) but the automatic teller will ask for your  USAA account # (which pulls up your account for the real teller when you are transfered) and then the teller might ask for your "Phone password" if you set one up.  No one can do anything with this information.  Scam/Phising calls or e-mails would send you to a place to log in, which is where they would normally capture your account information.  Giving out your USAA # only won't compromise your account.  If they ask you for your "phone password", ask them to give you the hint you set.

Telemarketer
Caller ID showed 210-531-8722,
"Cristie" said she was from USAA,
and asked me to call 800-952-2429.

It took me 7 or 8 plays of the message to get the info down.
Then, I Googled the call back number - SCAM -
Thank you everybody for reporting this.

I just got a call from someone claiming to be with USAA with some "inquiries", saying to call 800-952-2429. It sounded peculiar, so I decided to check it out and found here. My call came from 210-531-8722, so another number to add to the avoid list.

I like the way they made it sound good, "THIS IS USAA CALLING YOU ABOUT YOUR REFUND"
Refund?! really, I owe money, why would I be expecting a refund...this number sounded fishy, I called back and it sounded like a recording of the actual USAA intro message
I called the number listed on their site and the rep said there was no record of them having called me
Just sent their fraud department the voicemail, call back number and number I receievd the call from

I received a voice mail that asked me to call back "regarding my USAA account". When I called USAA customer service using the main number on their web site, the customer service rep I spoke with found no record of the previous phone call and they had no reason to speak with me.

I don't recommend returning a call directly to that number.

Not true. I called USAA and they verified this number is legitimate and that they contacted me requesting I call them at this number.

I've been with USAA for over 20 years.  877-336-0172 and 800-952-2429 is a scam.  Do not call back. Do not talk to them.

I got a call from this 877-336-0172 but didn't answer it.  A message was left leaving this number.  in contrast to what some others have said here, the message on my phone was a jumbled mess.  It started with some vaguely Indian-sounding music, then a distorted recorded voice started to pick up, which clarified into what I imagine most other people got, saying something about USAA offers and 1-800-952-2429.  Then there was the sound of a phone ringing and it cut out.  I think I may have gotten the bad copy of this, and if this does not convince you that this is a scam... well, I don't really know what to say to that.

Survey
I called back.  The woman claimed it was USAA.  xShe had inside info on my account.  I provided inside details.  She asked about additional services we might want and asked a few questions.   I emailed USAA, they replied  "Thank you for reporting the questionable email you received. The message was not sent by USAA..."

In 20/20 hindsight, I shouldn't have returned the call.  I don't recommend others return the call either.

Prank Call
I just spoke with a "real" USAA representative who informed me that 1-800-952-2429 is NOT one of their telephone numbers.  Do NOT give out any personal information to anyone answering this telephone number.  If you have a question about any of your USAA accounts, call the USAA number that you have in your personal records for USAA.

I got an automated call from this number 800-952-2429 saying they were USAA verifying new account. information. This Number is NOT a USAA number! I called the usual USAA numbers which ALL start with 531 exchange..they verified all my information and that they were NOT calling and that they have no record of this number as being part of their company or system of third party vendors.

They offered to lock accounts and set fraud alert..I am holding off till I see anything fishy in my accounts.

This is a very slick automated message but the voice and or message itself just doesn't sound right.

Be very careful answering questions from this caller or any third party calling out of the blue..

I just received a call from 877 336-0172 and the man who spoke stated he was with USAA and that he just wanted to make sure I was aware of all the services USAA had for me so I just told him I was at work if he could call back in an hour and he gave me another number to call back.  As soon as i hung up I checked Google for the number he asked to call back 800 952-2429 and i find all of this information thank you. I knew it was off I have never gotten a call from USAA for this.

I called USAA at the known number for member services and asked about this call.  The number given on the voicemail is not a USAA number, according to USAA.

I did a little google-fu - the number 800-952-2429 is registered from India.  USAA still does business from their HQ in Texas.

Got a call from (623) 715-7311 today at 4:30 PM from someone claiming to be a USAA representative who wanted to "verify profile information."  I hung up as this smelled fishy and was immediately called back by the same number; I ignored it and they left a voicemail.  The message left was VERY slick, computerized recording and all that, which also claimed to be from USAA and asked me to call back at 800-952-2429 to ensure that i was aware of all the services and member privileges they offered, etc...

I called the USAA credit card department not five minutes after receiving these calls (I called there because their regular customer service department was closed for the day) and verified that USAA does not call clients unsolicited to request personal information, and they most certainly don't do so after business hours.

This number is a scam; some dirtbag is just fishing for your personal information.  I have reported the incident to USAA.

The Number 800-925-2429 is from USAA Military Insurance/Bank... They are usually doing a follow-up call to something you or someone requested or the activation of a new account... I just received mine and returned the call to verify.
