They called several times, first time they said my computer was infected.  Next time I kept asking questions, finally I said I was driving and they would have to call back.  Sure enough, they just called and said my windows warrantee expired on August 31.  I said I would call him back.  I googled the call back number.  I am glad I did this

I got a call from these people today,Thick Accent, not very clear english speakers.Knew this was a scam from the get go. I asked fro the phone number to verify, Called the number back. They addressed me as ma'am before I even said anything. I hung up on them.  They called me back and addressed me by name. I informed them I was not using a windows machine at this time. The gentleman chuckled and then hung up on me. i reported them to the FTC.

Received a call today from a man with an Indian accent who called himself Eric Johnson. Said the tech center at Mircrosoft was getting messages of an online virus on my computer. When I said I have an antivirus installed he again said this is an online virus from websites. I told him what proof did he have. He gave me this number 801/512-0135 and said to call it and ask for him. When I called that number another man answered with his name. I asked what company are you representing and is Eric Johnson there. He hung up on me. I still had Eric on another line and said I was going to check with my IT guy before I belive what he is saying. He thanked me and hung up.

Got a call today from 801-512-0135 purporting to be from Microsoft tech support.  Was trying to get me to pull up some info to show me there was a problem.

The caller was male with an accented voice claiming to be Daniel Watson.  He hung up fairly quickly when I asked for his name and telephone number.

I received calls yesterday and today with caller ID (2c3) 429-a4cb.  Yes, letters and numbers. It was from this company.  I knew it was a scam so I kept them on the line for over 40 minutes messing with them.  They told me they were with Software Maintenance Technologies in Sugarland, TX.  When I asked for a call-back number, they gave me 801-512-0135.  I am an IT professional for 30 years and work in the security area, so I knew they were trying something, so I continued to keep them on the line for as long as possible. As several of the others have found out, they walk you through several things on your computer and have you bring up the Event Viewer and take you to a section that normally has errors, and tell you this is the evidence you are infected. They then want you to go to the Internet to a screen sharing site so they can take over your computer to fix it. So I started asking how they knew I was infected and how they tracked me down. I first told them I have a Microsoft service agreement, but they made up the stupid story that Microsoft makes the hardware, ie the computer, screens, keyboards, etc. and they make and support the Windows.  I know there is no way to identify a particular person and the phone they happen to be sitting by, I asked if they could tell me my name.  No, privacy reasons.  How about my computer name, nope, more privacy reasons, but they could tell me my SSID (a unique number for each computer) but then they had me run something that returns the same number no matter what computer you are on.  When I questioned their phone number, they said it was toll free.  I told them no, 801 is in Utah.  But they said they were in Texas.  They changed and said their call center was in Utah.  I do believe they are in India with Internet forwarded numbers.  I finally just started insulting them, their mother, their business etc., telling them to get an honest job and stop scamming people.

I reported all of this to my contacts in different parts of law enforcement and the investigation has started.

Can you believe someone else from there called me today?  I would have thought they'd flag my number as do not call.

Just received a call from this number telling me that they had identified a virus in my computer and I was to start up my computer so they could help me clean it up. They said the name of the company is SM Technology and the woman had an Indian accent.  An hour later a man called Daniel called wanting to explain to me what I needed to do for them to help me out.  I told him they were a bogus company and if they called again I would contact the authorities and he hung up.
