Got a call from this number. "Gentleman" did speak English very well. I asked for company name and contact number. He gave me a name (BC Services) and would not get me a number. HE asked why I wanted it and I said, "you have my number, I would like your company contact number. He said he did think that was good reason. I think "i don"t see you point." He tried to tell me I had a virus on my computer that I downloaded without knowing. I told him that I no longer needed his type of call and to
place my (HUNG UP) on the do not call list.
I asked if he was even calling the the United States. He said yes. When I asked which state, he said "Colorado, Denver" I said " oh you mean Denver, Colorado, as us AMERICANS SAY.... But caller ID said South Carolina.
I research BC Services which is a collection company. And of course....no record on my number! She nice and apologized. I gave her the fyi THIS company is using thier name and location.
Another search of the phone number on caller ID turned up a link to this site of others getting the same call. Any crazy enough...they are in South Carolina!!!!

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

I received a phone call last night. The ONLY reason I answered was because my son is presently in NC and the call came from SC, and I thought he might be using someones phone. Same thing, told me my computer was running slow because some Windows virus. I told him it wasn't and he insisted it was. Then because I was so mad that it wasn't my son (that we have not talked to in over a month, because he's in the military), I told him I couldn't understand his accent and to speak to someone that spoke ENGLISH. He said maybe I wasn't an AMERICAN because I couldn't understand him, it was all I could do to not reach thru the phone and choke him. I really wanted to say some very impolite things, but the CHRISTAIN, AMERICAN mother of a UNITED STATES MARINE politely hung up on him !!!!

I got a call from this number from a man with a middle-eastern accent. I could hear lots of noise and talking in the background, so it was some kind of boiler room set up. I played along for a while to see what he was up to. He said I had downloaded a virus, which he was so generously going to help me get rid of...all I had to do was give him access to my desktop! He never tried to sell me anything. Please do not become a victim of this scam!

Some kind of scam. Caller says he's from some Internet security firm and advises me that I have downloaded malicious software and that it is raising alarms. I tried to lead him on for a while and then I asked him how he knew it was me. He said that the Windows software on my system identified me. I use Linux and so informed him. He said I must have some machine that runs windows and I told him I didn't (I use Linux, and Android only). I told him let me help you out here - tell me the IP address that you identified. He said that would not be useful. I said, "maybe not to you" then he just said "You're dumb... You're dumb". I wish I was clever enough to lead him on and get more information. Maybe he was selling antivirus software and I could have taken him right on up to the purchase without paying, to tell me, at least, the name of the software. If the S/W is legit, the company would take interest in this. If not, I'd have the culprit... Oh well :-(
