Got a call from this number on my cell phone from "Rachel from your credit card company, calling about your credit card account. Press 1 to speak to an operator about lowering your interest rate or 2 to stop receiving notifications." I hung up. They never mentioned a company name.
Lookups said this number is in Hawaii!

I just received a call from 808-298-1797. The person calling identified herself as a member of VISA and Mastercad, and was looking to lower my interest rates for me. She asked how many cards I had, and what the balance was on each one. She wanted the account numbers so she could call Capital One and Sears to verify that I had been making my payments on time and was current. I felt uncomfortable giving her my account numbers and she offered to put a supervisor on the phone, who told me that my indentity could not be stolen unless I gave them my social security number and I was protected by federal law if someone did make fraudulent purchases on my credit card. When I asked them to mail me some information they told me that a previous request had already been sent to me and this was my final chance to get a reduction in my interest rates. When I paused, they hung up on me.
Recently, I made a purchase on E-Bay and signed up for credit on line through paypal. I wonder if there is a connection. Not sure how this company got my work number because I don't recall giving it out.
