They are posing as a magazine company saying that you signed up for either 30 or 60 months of magazines, then they'll ask which card you prefer, visa or master card, then they try to "verify" the card they have on file, I said visa so they said my card starts with the #4 but anybody who has had a visa knows that all visa's start with 4. Whatever you do don't give your card number.

I recieved a call today, and  I didnt reconize the number, so I answered it. A lady asked me if I received my magazines and I told her that I didn't order any. Then she continued to say "Is this your name and address?" and yeah they have my name and address then I asked to speak to the customer service because I didn't order any magazines...she wanted my approximate age and transfered me to a customer service...then a guy answered and I told him I didn't order any magazines and he said "I have your credit card info, mailing info and we are shipping this magazines  and you owe us $59.00 and i am talking the money out of your bank account, I have your acct number, your security code number and i am processing your acct right now." What I did to protect my account...i called my bank closed all my accounts because there are many scams and this is one of them.

How will we be able to put these scammers in jail before they hurt unsuspecting individual making honest living?

These people call 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, just to be harassing. I do not answer UNKNOWN NAME calls. I am on the 2 Do Not Call Lists. They never leave a message so It must not be important if they don't want a callback.

I did this very same thing with the same results.  They didn't, however, name "who" the company was when it was automatically answered saying that it may not be within normal business hours (10:00 Pacific time).  I don't have any magazines delivered and they've probably been calling for the past month.  This was the first time I decided to check on them.  I had called previously (might have dialed incorrectly) and nobody answered.

My mother keeps getting calls from this number saying that she needs to update her account information on some magazines. She told them she wasn't interested  and he persisted that they will take it out of her bank account. She told him that she WAS NOT giving them her account number and he said, "Mam I already have that information." She told him that he best not touch her account and after she hung up on him she called her bank to report it. They have called her twice. She told them this last time to take her off their call list and the lady said that she couldn't until she verified some information and my mother hung up on her too. This is ridiculous! We have all put ourselves on the DO NOT CALL Registry and they still aggravate you to death!

Was called 12/14/11 midafternoon in an area around Boston, MA.. Caller said he worked with ~200 magazine publishers. Wanted to ensure my subscriptions were o.k. When I asked, "What subscriptions?" I was given a list of 3 generic male magazines. When I told him I hadn't ordered any of those magazines he said, "O.K. we'll fix this information in your account!" Then he hung up.
This was a strange call. I'm still wondering what his real intent was for calling!

Received a call  on 9/27 from 770-884-1855.  Received a call on 10/17 from 512-233-0027. Received a call today, 10/18 from 813-217-5938 - the woman knew my first name, said they were calling people because their magazines are arriving damaged, I said mine are fine, she then said "Since I have you on the phone,"  I said "I have to go.  Thanks." and hung up.  I do not buy my magazines through Publishers' Clearing House.  I truly appreciate everyone's comments here.  This is some sort of scam.  I found it interesting that other commenters also received calls from the other two numbers.

I BELIEVE THEY ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF IDENTITY THEFT.  They have been dailing me daily for over three weeks and, in hopes of stopping it, I finally answered an hour ago.  Girl said she had reports of people in my area who were not recieving their magazines or receiving them in damaged condition.  Told her that was not a issue for me and she asked my age and which type of credit card has given me the best service (I answered both, UGH!),  and then forwarded me to her "supervisor" who would ask me about the quality of service she provided.  Instead, "Tyler" comes on the line and says I'm set up for automatic renewal and I said No, that wasn't right and requested they send a bill at renewal time to which he replied that they are a "green" company so no more paper bills would be mailed but he could cancel my auto renewal and said that he had a mastercard (funny!  it's the same type of credit card I stated I preferred) on file for me and could I confirm the expiration date -- which I did...  All of the sudden he needed to actually enter that credit card number in order to cancel the auto renewal  He said the first number was 5 but needed the rest of the number to complete the cancellation.  ALL MASTERCARD CREDIT CARDS START WITH A 5.  I said no way I was giving my credit card number over the phone.  He actually said to me that thieves only target billionaires!!!  not regular people.  That was enough!  I told him to give me the company number and I would call them directly.  The number gave me is 888-299-8272.  I then hung up and began my hunt for who this really was on the other end of the line.  VERY SUSPICIOUS!

I got calls yesterday from 512-233-0027 and on listed as "Important" from 770-884-1855 and now this one today. Googled all of them- all with something to do with magazines (i dont have any subscriptions).

The laugh comes in- my phone service will be shut off in 2 days due to a move. We will have Vonage and be able to block calls in the future- so the jokes on them. I dont know how long they will keep calling this old number but it gives me joy to think they are wasting their time!

I never give out my cell # as my contact #. If I am away from home I can forward calls to my cell if I am expecting anything or Vonage will send me a text of any messages that are left. Finally I will have tools to block these nusances!

Just got a call from this number. The caller ID just said florida. A man said something like he was from a magazine company and wanted to know if I was receiving my magazines and if they were comming damaged. Something didn't feel right as he did not specify any magazine. He then confirmed my full name and address, he read it to me, I did not supply any information. I am aware that this information is available online. He then asked if he could confirm my age, and I said no. I ended the call there.

I do not think this guy is from any magazine company. I am not sure what their scam is buit I will be keeping an eye on things.

I just answered a call from "George" with so much background chatter I could hardly hear him (wouldn't have answered but didn't have my reading glasses on so couldn't read the number). He asked if my magazines were coming on schedule. I told him as far as I know they are. He said he wanted to verify my information so he could remove my name from their calling list. He read my address and asked if that is correct, asked if I'm married, and asked if I'm retired. He didn't ask for any information that I felt could cause problems for me. After verifying this he said goodbye. I became concerned that I might have gotten one of those foreign calls that end up costing thousands of dollars, so Googled the area code to find it is in Florida.  I'm pretty sure he's with Publishers Clearing House since I think I ordered a magazine or two from them a year or so ago.

These crooks have called around lunch and dinner time every day for about a week - each call shows a different city and number. I decided to have fun today and asked the dummy for the name of the company she represented (as soon as she said she wanted to renew my magazine subscription). After stumbling for a moment, she said "Magazine Renewal Service", which of course, isn't even a company. I then asked which magazine she's calling about; she said that her computer screen doesn't show that. My next question asked how far into her speech she'd be asking for my credit card number. That drew silence, at which point I cursed at her and threatened to send her to jail if she ever calls again. Not only is this an obvious scam, but it's not even a well-conceived one. How could be idiot who scripted the thing not even give the callers a believable company name? Do they really expect even the most naive victim to throw them a CC number if they can't tell them which magazine is being renewed? Hell has a special corner for these people; it's only a matter of time before they get there.

Received call today.  They hung up upon answering.  Called back, got a recording with a menu but no announcement of who they were.  Option 2 was to find out the purpose of their call which (when pressed) said they represented over 200 major publishing companies and the call was to update their records.  So Bantam Books is keeping tabs on me?  Scary.  Option 3 was to remove the number (which is interesting since I am on a do not call list).  I chose three and the recording told me it would be two business days at least before the number was removed.
