Telemarketer
Bill Smith got thru to me right away cause we were short handed and I answered the phone. He was nice enough, but then I wasn't blocking his goal. Wanted to provide a free estimate, but I wasn't planning anything. Funny thing was that he called just 10 minutes after I hung up with another roofing telemarketer. I must be on a list. His name nor number don't show on the O&S web site, but they do have a Dallas office. I'm in Houston though. Something fishy here, but I don't have time to figure out what it is.

This guy calls us every 90 days or so, and I know what the purpose of his call is after talking to him a few times. Going against the grain of most of comments here, I would not call him rude, but I would say that he is to the point and he is persistent in getting in touch with our MM when he does call. I personally do not like telemarketers or any company that would use them to "drum up business", too bad that the receptionists cannot make the decision of who our company uses for vendors. Surely, Bill is not rude with the MM, once he gets through to them, I know this because if he was, I would get a call/note from the MM telling me to not let Bill through anymore, although we as receptionists need to make that as difficult as possible, not being rude of course, since we are the gatekeepers of the company we work for, It seems he has been with this same company for a number of years now as I am sure he would have been fired by the owner of O&S Construction if he was really "rude".

I have not had anyone actually tell me that I sit around twiddling my thumbs, (I don't know about what they think I do nor do I care), tell me I had to get up from my desk to find someone for them nor have I had someone demand me to do something, even if it actually is my job to do (paging someone that they have a call). Like most companies, ours gets lots of telemarketing calls and that is just the nature of the job, from what I gather about this individual, he is selling roofing on the phone, although I suspect he is looking for prospects, not selling roofing and like most of us, he wants to actually talk to the person that handles that instead of leaving a  voicemail, nothing wrong with that, but if they are rarely, if ever near a phone, that is going to be very hard to accomplish. If you are asking him, "can I tell him who is calling?", then you should at least attempt to tell him who is calling as opposed to sending to voicemail knowing full well that you are just going to do that anyway.

I do believe this guy has a boss as an owner of a company would not try to sell a roof over the phone, he must make commission per roof he sells on the phone. When he calls, cuss him and make him feel like he should have never applied for that job he is dong and let him know that we gatekeepers are the real bosses!

I totally agree, it is such a waste of my time to page someone, if he wants our business so bad, he needs to leave a clear and concise message and if we are interested, we will contact him.

I would ask your boss to get an unlisted number, that way, not only does it keeps you from getting "harrassed" but also you will get less calls in general, and have more time to do what I like to do, I hate answering the phone!

I agree with you, when I asked him the nature of his call as you did, he did not yell at me, but what he did say was, " Your facility maintenance like for your roof, making sure it is in good condition". Now I know there has to more than what he is saying, as in trying to sell a roof over the phone, but he said there was no way to break it down any more simple for me, and since I am the gatekeeper, I am intuitive enough to know that if it is not a personal call or a customer wanting us to sell them something, which is perfectly fine, then it has to be a telemarketer trying to sell us something!

I know of guys like this, he calls and says that he is not selling a roof over the phone, but I know better than that! He wants my company's business, I am not a decision maker for the company I work for, but I know how much work a lady has to do to answer an ever ringing multi-line phone and after I ask him, "Can I tell him who is calling?" then come back on the phone a few seconds later to tell him he is not at his desk, he has the audacity of asking me if I could page to let him know he has a phone call and to actually tell him who is calling! That is a total waste of my time and since I know he is selling a roof over the phone, (I do not know how he survives financially by doing that), then I am not going to let him waste my MM time either, I can make that decision!

This guy "BillSmith" called and pretty much did the same thing as in all other reviews, except of course the defensive reviews he seems to write himself. He stated he was calling from a company named O&S Construction then started screaming at me after he was told again that I needed to know more information as to the nature of his call. As "gatekeepers" it is our job to know when to transfer a phone call that wont take up the time of important people.  So, to the company, I say...fire this guy and you may have more success!

Just found this site and BIll just called again. He hangs up when you don't send him to the person he wants.
So,
You got lucky if you didn't get the side of BILL that the rest of us have gotten many times.  He is a pure jerk.  I except a Bill Collector to be crazy rude, but a salesman that calls during business hours to try and make a sale and acts like he is better than you, talks to you like you are an idiot and talks to you like you have no clue about what your doing, needs to be fired or have harrassement charges filed on him.  Next time, he calls you, you might get it.  None of us were having a BAD DAY until Bill called us.

Next time he calls,  someone should step up to the plate for Jesus,  and Rudely  read him the right act.
Tell him that your church has no interest in his products,  methods,  and his harassment and demand that he cease.  He is obviously a freelancer and has no one to answer to,  therefore he feels he can say anything he wants. Unfortunately,  he can because there is no one willing to hold him accountable.
Stand your ground,  get mad,  and  use some language that may be out of the ordinary.  You should hear my pastor when this happens.  He would embarass  Jesus,  Alah and the Pope...
Remember,  what did Jesus do to the money changers?   No one is doing anyone any favors by not confronting this person.    Just do it!!   Ask forgiveness later...

This man, Bill has called our business numerous times for the last year.  The first few times, he was demanding on the phone and then acted like I was I was unprofessional for not being able to send his call to a production manager.  We are a small business we don't have an assign production guy.  Our employees just help out around the business if they have knowledge of something that might need fixing.  When I tried to tell BILL that no one was available, his attitude went south.  He even called me back one time to tell me how unprofessional I was on the phone.  LIke he was going to get me in trouble.  First of all, my attitude was fine untill he started acting like I was in the wrong for needing to take a message.  He wanted to speak to the owner, the owner would have told the man, No Thank you just like I did.  He called this morning, again.

Randy, I would normally agree but I am the one who answers the phones and this Bill Smith guy is very arrogant and rude. I work for a church and I show every call love and compassion, every time. It's my job to be kind and loving. I work for Jesus. I have never had a complaint against me. I am the happiest receptionisty I know. So, yes, I can understand that sometimes the "gate keeper" may be in a mood but when it came to my experiences with this man on more than one occasion, he has been very nasty. This time, it's not the gate keepers/receptionist's mood that made him act rudely.

I had a very similiar experience as Ginger and a few of the others have had. I am a Church receptionist. I work for Jesus. :) I am always polite and gracious. Bill Smith has called many times and has been extremely rude, arrogant and sarcastic. He wants to speak with my Facilities Manager but she is rarely at her desk. He won't leave a message even though he says he has. This is not true because I am the only person who answers the phones and he never wants to leave a proper message. He insists that he never gets a call back. I do not have time for this type of harrassment. What can we do to stop this type of caller?

He calls repeatedly asking for maintenance manager, but won't leave a name, or a number and continues to complain that he can't talk to anyone. THe manager wasn't available, which is why his line went unanswered.
I told him he could leave his number, and he said he's tried that- (which he never has- I just picked it up from caller ID)- and that if he left his number and that this was an important call he would- and click, he hung up.

He ALWAYS hangs up the phone mid-sentence.
Rude.
If numerous people post on different websites different reviews about the negative attitude of this caller, then I can say with confidence, he IS rude.

This man has called our company a few times as well. The first time he called he asked for the person in charge of building maintenance. When I told him we did not have anyone, if he could tell me more about why he was calling I could get him to the appropriate person.  He became very upset and rude with me and told me that people were sitting around twiddling their thumbs not doing any work and he wanted me to personally go to this person's office and tell them that they had a phone call they needed to take. When I told him I would not do this and offered him their voicemail he became more upset and continued to argue with me and tell me that nobody does work around here and he has been leaving voicemails for 7 months and has never received a return call.  He eventually hung up on me.  He called again today and asked for person by name, I told him I would try their extension. I came back to the line and let him know this person was not available and offered to put him into her voicemail.  He said well if they aren't answering then I guess you can't tell them who is calling.  I said that was correct, and again offered voicemail. He got upset again and told me to page the person. I told him I was not going to do that and again offered voicemail.  He said he guesses that is too much work for me, he will call back!   He is very rude, if he is trying to offer his services he is going about it in the completely wrong way.  He is very unprofessional!

Billy Smith called asking for the person in charge of building maintenance and immediately became very upset when I couldn't provide a name to him. I tried to explain the situation that we do not have anyone with that title and that different aspects of the building are handed by different people, that if he could let me know what he was calling about I could pass his call along to the correct person. The only further information he would provide is that it is regarding roofing. I told him we have someone on staff that handles the roofing issues for us and I would be happy to pass along the message. He became irate and began yelling at me, threatened to "tell on me" to the owner but the owner he referred to hadn't owned the company in years. I passed his phone call along to my immediate supervisor to which he continued to argue with about facility maintenance in our company. This happens about once a month, everyone here that answers the phone has dealt with this same person on numerous occasions and we have all received the same terrible treatment. We are not interested in working with people who behave in this manner, irregardless of whether they are a vendor or a client - bottom line is that we do not have to deal with this attitude from anyone.
Just to be clear we receive very few "sales" calls and do not feel overwhelmed by telemarketers. This is a very unusual situation for us. We are not accustomed to rude behavior by our callers and wish this person would stop calling.
