Tried to Block call... unable to for it's an invalid number from the Dominican Republic.

This is the latest in annoyance calls bordering on harrassment.  It is a robotic call which I thought was illegal.  I should note that our land line phone number is and has been on the DoNotCall database since inception and this phone number is also unlisted.   After weeks of continuing to get this call, instead of hanging up angry I listened to the whole lame shpeal about diabetes and emergency and urgent and got to the phrase....If you wish to stop receiving these calls press 2....which I did!   However that only routed me to a person with a thick accent who immediately launched into a speech trying to sell me something.   I cut her off and insisted she tell me the name of the company she worked for.  She said American Senior Assistance.  I asked where is your company located?  she said Fairfax Va.  I asked what is the address of your company?   she hung up
I then dialed *69 which told me the number that called was 849-963-4855    
Further research has told me that this is a dominican republic exchange.  Further research brought me to this page.

2:32pm today. Only rang twice. I would not have picked up u for unfamiliar # and nit enough ribgs fir machine to pick up.

Unwanted call - a recording trying to defraud based upon Medicare

Received call from an unwanted number - 849-963-4855. Caller ID: "D Republic Call".  Did not answer.

I received a one ring phone call from this number.  Good thing I checked on Google.  I don't want this type of call.

Received calls from this number at least 4 times in 2 days.

Calls if you answer they dont answer hangup 6 time this week

The government, our "protectors" (what a joke!) is supposed to prosecute and levy fines against these scumbags but don't unless they get millions of complaints.

Let's face it. What has government ever done that really works well? You can look at every damned program they have and it's corrupt, ineffective, incredibly wasteful, overbudget, going bankrupt, and the list goes on. The Do Not Call List is a joke. I've reported hundreds of these scumbag scammers and the calls just keep coming.

As soon as I saw "name not found" on the caller ID, it didn't take much to realize it's a scam.  Unless I recognize a number, I never pick up the call.

I received a call yesterday and today with the caller today saying (recording) "I have an emergency medicare message" I disconnected.  Yesterday was the same with the instruction to press one.  I want to thank all of you above on your postings.  It was very helpful.  There is no end of the sick minds behind these scams.

Scam phone call for sure about quality health care, have diabetes or other blah blah blah ... thieves do not abide by do not call list.  It would be good if more education was put out there for elderly that if they get a call it is a scam.  If you do not call them, it is a scam.  Those are the only calls like this that go out these days, robo thieves looking for naive or elderly people.  Disgusting pieces of garbage they are, for sure.

Unwanted, unanswered call.  Remove.

Thank you for the good advise.  I will have to give it a try.  We get at least 2 to 3 calls a day and it is very annoying.  Do not call list does not work so maybe this will.

Scam!  Wanted my doctor's names and Social security numbers.  My phone numbers are in the state and national no-call listings so this had to be another failure in the Commerce Dept. like the "failure to maintain" them during the run-up to elections last year.

Unwanted call trying to sell Medicaid insurance. My cellphone is on the Federal do not call list, but they don't give a damn because they are in the Dominican Republic!

PHONE RANG 3X'S NO MESSAGE I CALLED BACK AND RECORDING STATED IF YOU WANT INTERNATIONAL CALL SERVICE YADA YADA YADA.  IF THEY CALL BACK WILL BLOCK CALL FOR THEY ONLY ATTEMPTED ONCE.

Call here this afternoon at 12:24 PM.  Left no message on machine.  On caller ID it said D REPUBLIC CALL

Dominican Republic showed as the origin of the call. No thanks.

Port your number over to Google Voice. It costs a $20 one time fee and then you have the number and don't pay anything more for it. I did that with my home "house" number. Now when call comes into it the call forwards to my cell phone.

I know it was forwarded because I have to push 1 to accept it. And when I get a moment I look at the call history in Google Voice and block the scam call numbers. They are no longer forwarded to my cell phone and they hear the goofy tone and "this number is no longer in service" message that a regular phone company would put on a disconnected phone.

The do not call list doesn't immunize anyone, nor does it have the mechanical ability to stop anyone from calling you.   It is just a list.  The scammers and frauds can call you anytime they want, as well as anyone else.   Call blockers are the most practical solution and yet they can't do everything.
