Just in case anyone is interested I did some more investigating. As I stated in my earlier post I actually paid these A**holes so I was able to go online and look at my bank account and they are billing me as NCW Billing, National Credit works. I immediately called my bank and cancelled my debit card and put a lock on the account against NCW Billing. I checked out the NCW Billing website and they claim to be a payment processing center for collection agencies and collection law firms. I copied this from their website. Funny S*&t if you read throught it, they are everything but what they claim to be.

Welcome to NCW Billing and thank you for entering our website.

Debt Collector
Received a call from Segal Bennet and Assoc. Ignored the call because it was a toll free number. Then I received a call from a local 713 number that I did answer. Said they were a process server with the local court and were going to serve me papers for fraud on a payday loan that I defaulted on. They gave me the the 855 number and I recognized it from the call I ignored earlier. When I called the local 713 number it was from the local court, something about process serving, or something like that. So I thought that it was legit and called the 855 number and found it to be Segal Bennet and Assoc. Spoke with Lydia Carter and actually paid these guys. It wasn't until I after I paid them that I realized most fraud cases are criminal and are usually handled by the district attorney meaning they would have just issued a warrant and arrested me at some point. The funny thing is I'm not sure how they were able to use the local 713 number to come across on my caller ID???? It really seemed legit but after reading these posts I think I will just tell them to pound sand!!!

Debt Collector
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I just got the same call. Caller ID showed up as our county. The last time I got a call that showed up as a county number it was 911 letting us know Mom had been taken to the ER. This time, however, it was a lady asking for my husband and when I told her he wasn't here she asked my name and relation to him.. I only gave her my first name and NEVER gave my relation.Then she said my name was also on the affidavit. she then asked if I had spoken to anyone about an affidavit she had in front of her. She couldn't tell me what it was about. That I needed to call the Lawyers handling the case. She gave me a case number and a phone number to call. I found it kind of strange that she didn't offer her name and no info about the case.  I asked the questions who are you and where are you calling from. Her answer was that she was Martha Wagnor from an attorney's office. I then asked her what her title in that office was and she proceeded to tell me that this is a civil case and it was imperative that I call the 855-206-5454 today. I continued to ask her what the name of the attorney's office was and what town/state she is in. Then she said she couldn't answer any further questions. I could get all my answers when I called the number she gave me. Very Strange.

Phone numbers can be ":spoofed" - that is changed to whatever number the caller wants to show.  In this case it is your courthouse.  This is illegal as is the "police are coming" threat.  Invite "Martha" to visit you.  She will never show up because the whole situation is a scam.

Some lady, Martha Wagner, called from a phone number that goes to the county courthouse. She just said her name and that she was from my county. She didn't state her title there. She said that a sheriff would be coming to my house tomorrow or my work to serve me an affidavit and I needed a valid ID and and if I was at work, my supervisor would have to sign off as a witness. She also gave a case #. I looked up my name as well as the court case number in the local county records search. Nothing came up.

How the hell were they able to call from a phone number that goes to the courthouse? The case number brings up nothing in the local courts.

THEY ARE A SCAM!!! DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION NOR AGREE TO PAY THEM ANY MONEY. These people are taking money from innocent people to fund their other scam of purchasing products from department stores and merchants to ship to "work at home shippers" a work at home scheme. I realized this after I was scammed to be a shipper for what I thought was a work at home job. These people "tried" to use me as a Mule to have an address and person to ship their products to from things purchased by those that they've gotten credit card/debit card info from by threatening you with the claim of you being ARRESTED or being served papers. They figure you'll get scared and to stop the court summons, you'll give them your credit card/debit card information and pay the fine. BUT THERE'S NO LEGITIMATE COURT SUMMONS FOR YOU AT ALL. Use your common sense, if there were a true summons already signed off by a judge, it's a done deal and a payment wouldn't stop it by phone. You'd have to go to court to handle it. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION. Keep record of the call and file a police report and give them the scammer's phone number. They will STOP the calling. Like I said, these people tried to scam me with a work at home opportunity by having the merchandise shipped to me, then I in return would ship the merchandise to them. I caught ON to it. Kept the merchandise. Filed a police report. Contacted the United States Postal Service Inspector to file a report/complaint with them as well. Then reshipped/returned ALL the expensive merchandise they purchased with other people's credit card information. ***AGAIN... DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. THEY ARE A FAKE. THEY ARE SCAMMERS AND THERE IS A RING OF THEM WORKING TOGETHER. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!

It isn't the purpose of the call, it's the manner in which they do their very best to deceive and mislead that is in many states illegal and certainly abusive. There are plenty of unsuspecting people who have had and continue to have an extremely hard time under Obama's failed and expensive economic recovery plans and they don't need to be further abused by some shylock collection agency that bought the debt for pennies on the dollar using scare tactics to extract their pound of flesh.

The company is called Segal Bennett & associated. I just called my attorney who could not find a record of this debt collection company. The address they give is 250 Delaware ave suite 3 Buffalo, ny 14202. In New York it is against the law to collect on payday loans. I would google Lemberg and associates they helped me sue a debt collector and they settled and I got a few bucks.

You are wrong. They have called me yesterday and today asking for someone I never heard of and who never lived here stating that she was to call back regarding a time sensative offer (20 cents on the dollar) to settle. I called with my number blocked two times and spoke to two people. Both hung up mid call and the second said no Michael Davis, the name of the caller, worked there. The caler's voice was the same each time.

Oh for heaven's sake catch a clue.  These people are reporting FDCPA violations, and are also not  indicating that they recognize the debt.  Where are the legally required debt validation letters?  Oh yeah, right, they're not in the mail because this "company" is a scumbag illegal debt collector.

Segal Benet & Associates - have called me twice with threats of service of papers and home appraisals.  Know your rights before you deal with these kind of debt collectors.  Check with your state laws, in most cases credit card or unsecured debt not collected within 3 years may not be as each states term are different.  Be sure to tell them to stop calling you and note the date and time.  If they persist you maybe able to sue them.  You do have rights, don't let this type of firm beat you up.  When in doubt always seek legal counsel.

Caller stated they were an appraiser coming to my property in two hours with an uniform officer.  Was quite intimidating so I called the local sheriff who will be here to greet them; should they show up.

Note:  I called the number left as a message to which the person answering stated they were a attorney.

This number seems to be a scheme so beware.
